1. Start with people here
Eldar ,   Haifa   (06.17.12)
Treat the population fairly. Apply social justice. Make peace. Create an enlightened society. Everyone will want to come back.
2. Edelstein is an excellent public servant

3. THose who have left have left...make sure more dont leave
Al   (06.17.12)
For a start, start being a Jewsih country and stop cowtowing to everoine and anyone that comes your way. They leave because they dont see any intrinsic value in being in an Israel. They leave because you forgot to instill in them a pride in having a Jewish coutry they can call their own. They leave because you dont seem to have Jewish interests at heart at all. They leave bacuase you dont seem to want to protect Jewish life property and rights. THATS WHY THEY LEAVE.
4. 21 years, no tax audit yet. Touch wood
Jerome ,   NZ   (06.17.12)
3 days after opening my dental practice in TA, the tax squad raided my clinic and checked if all invoicing systems in place. Of course the computer was only 3 days old, so they left. But the traumatic experience made me lose interest, sold the equipment and eventually left for good. Now after 21 years almost retired, i will come back only if my Porsche and my yacht are allowed too.

And your support for these statements are... what? Anecdotally speaking, none of the Israelis that I know that left the country and are living in Europe or the US cite any of these reasons. Usually its 1) economically - they want to live in a place that they can become richer than they would in Israel; and 2) they want to live in a more progressive country with less racism and prejudices... But maybe you speak to others who would rather make California the Jewish state.

" they want to live in a more progressive country with less racism and prejudices..." - That automatically disqualifies most of Europe, since racism specifically anti-Semitism is storming all over Europe. Any Israeli wanting to go to Northern Europe (except Finland, which is one of the least anti-semitic nations) is a self-hater. You can't openly show you're Jewish in most European capitals without being harrassed or beaten up. Source: I still live in Europe, but will be making Aliyah next year.
7. Al
Marc ,   North Carolina, USA   (06.17.12)
Al, I made aliyah in 1983 with my mother from the US and left in 1986 to live with my father in California. Life for me was hard, while I spoke Hebrew I really never mastered the language to do well in school. My grade plummited and I was known as the new American who didn't try. I was on my way to becomming an illiterate person in Israel. Realizing my prospects before the army were none (I wanted to be a physician) i left Israel. Returning to the US I went to University and medical school. I am a physician. While I love Israel and still feel Israeli i was let down by system that wasn't (at that time) really capable of addressing the needs of older children immigrating to Israel. I simply wanted the opportunities that I saw others achieving but I couldn't.
8. The Alternative
Howard ,   Seattle WA   (06.17.12)
I have no doubt that life is easier in the US especially economically but there are some things as they say in a famous commercil that are priceless. The American Jewish community is dying as a result of assimilation apithay. Most of the Jews I know have married outside of the faith and their children are not being raised Jewish which is far too common in the US.Stats unfortunatly back me up.Yes Israel is harder place to live but there are some things that money can't buy.
9. an affordable roof over your head
Anna ,   Rehovot Israel   (06.18.12)
We want to come back but can't afford to buy or rent here. What is the point of seeing Israel as a haven for all the Jews if there are no affordable places to live here?
10. Lots of language-ethnic countries have diasporas
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (06.18.12)
....and most of them have a range of PR campaigns and inducements to deal with the Exile. It's worthwhile to study how others handle the same situation!
11. a wise decision
i ,   jerusalem   (06.18.12)
The Israeli expats I knew in NY are not coming back, despite all the grand guilt-driven, long-term-plans and declarations otherwise. The get taken with the niceties of galut, and do not see the warts. Their children grow up as locals and even their parents would not thrive in and Israel ,which is other than the one they left.
12. reaches out to Israelis abroad
jacques ,   nsw   (06.19.12)
too late to little
13. appreciating all these genius, insightful comments...
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (06.19.12)
...no wonder there's never been a succesful Aliyah story. Nope, no one happily settled in Israel now! By the way, let's not forget that many, many non-Jews are also loyal citizens. Ones who've departed should also be treated with respect and asked to enroll their kids in the Tzofim-Chootz. Better them than a bunch more of Satmars!
14. Comeback
Equilibrium ,   Rehovot, Israel.   (06.19.12)
These ideas have been in operation for about 50 years already. They are always the same stale and stupid ideas. More to the point would be to correct as far as possible the problems that drive our young to leave and seek out a better future beyond the ocean. Affordable housing, fair sharing of the military load, separation of state from religion and so the list goes on.Its not rocket science to see whats wrong.
15. End Affiermative Action That Favors

Arabs.
16. Before I come back I need to know
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (06.24.12)
that Israel is going to have a future. The radiation from Fukushima is coming right across Israel. If nothing is done to stop it, Israelis will have to leave the country or die. As it stands now, I'm making plans to move out of Canada.
17. mixed messages
Yored X ,   Yoridia   (06.25.12)
"You are evil sinners, spit out by the land" - o please can you come back and slave-labour for us, you get to have some cottage cheese once every few months if you're real good".
18. We need to improve
Sarah B (no not her)   (06.25.12)
living conditions, and the costs of living in Israel so that Israeli Jews will not want to leave. That means affordable housing, cheaper fuel, food, better schools, a professional standing army and a comprehensive peace treaty with the Palestinian people. It is uncertainty people don't like, and the rhetoric of this government of imminent annihilation from the regime in Iran is not designed to get people to remain in Israel bringing up their kids if they have a second passport.
19. Better Remaining Overseas!!!
Simcha ,   Beitar Elite, ISRAEL   (06.26.12)
If an individual has a good job and is already established elsewhere especially in the USA, Canada or Australia, it is better that her or she NOT move to Israel and start all over again from scratch. Living in Israel is very difficult. The only reason why I do not mind living in Israel is because I belong to a wonderful synagogue and have a wonderful circle of friends here while at the same time, I also have many complaints about living here.
