1. Incitement to assimilation!
Joseph ,   London UK   (05.25.12)
Let us petition the High Court to indict leaders of the Reform Movement for incitement to assimilation. Toras HaMelech is an academic study of various Jewish views, not an incitement. Academic freedom does not apply only to secular scholars.
2. you also have to prosecute the Rambam
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (05.25.12)
He's the one who wrote the Mishneh Torah. There you will find everything you need. And he is only quoting the Gemarra, which in turn is quoting the Torah. So , once you get started, where do you stop.
3. The real reasons
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (05.25.12)
The real reasons not to persecute either the authors or those that endorse the book as manyfold. First - they did not commit incitement by doing their jobs. Second - there is something called freedom of speech. Third - those statements adhere to international law. They are correct in every way including the fact that the Geneva Convention agrees with their conclusions. The AG is in the wrong and he knows it.
4. #1 - Part of it
Amichai ,   Huntsville, US   (05.25.12)
I agree with one aspect of what you say - "Academic freedom does not apply only to secular scholars." For all the "tolerance" of the Reformists, they sure want to suppress the views of the more conservative Jews. For centuries our Jewish sages have debated over some pretty controversial aspects of Judaism. Their study of a subject doesn't amount to incitement any more than brotherly love amounts to homosexuality. This petition is a just a tool of the Left to oppress a rival religious body.
5. Freedom of Speech
Mike ,   USA   (05.26.12)
I believe in Freedom of Speech. Let the rabbis talk. No one should be in jail for speech, not these rabbis, not holocaust deniers in Europe, not inflammatory imams, not Kach, not Christian missionaries in Jerusalem. Call them idiots, but do not arrest them for speech. Unless they make a call for violence, they should be left to their own idiocies. From a Gentile - who these rabbis might probably consider to be an üntermensch - but I do not care. These rabbis do not threaten me. Curtailing freedom of speech threatens everyone.
