Mr. Feldman is not arguing the fact that Israel should take these people in or not - he is arguing about the method in which we as a people and community are trying to solve these issues. The South TLV neighborhoods are already in poor condition and are neglected by the gvt.; so it is understandable how something like this can happen when people really feel like their environment is threatened. However, ultimately, people must show their anger towards the gvt. for their lack of a policy on this issue - or rather their lack of confronting the problem before it even started, pre planned policy. It makes no sense how the gvt. is to blame for all of this, yet there are certain politicians leading the etho-nationalist violence in what they say as a way to atone for their lack of doing anything to effectively solve the situation. While the comparison to pogroms is overdramatizing the situation, most of the talkbacks completely miss the point. It doesn't matter if it's as bad as pogroms, what matters is that we remain good people. And good people don't go about destroying property of people they don't know. What happened should make us feel ashamed of those who commited the crimes. And no one is saying that the refugees should stay. I'm not even sure exactly what you feel so threatened by. There are some criminals among the refugees, but how many of the refugees you've met were also criminals? The point is, they are refugees, and Israelis have this irrational fear of the word. They are not Palestinian 'refugees' who may not even be refugees by any reasonable definition. The African refugees won't stay refugees forever and they won't stay in Israel forever. There is no reason to kick them out because they are not here to stay. So just relax. They are guests, even if some of them are bad guests. Politicians who refer to African immigrants as cancer or ridden with disease should be made redundant immediately, as they do more harm than anything else, by mislabeling the problem.
