1. Anti-Haredi prejudice
Israeli grandma   (06.04.12)
This is a shocking incident in the Jewish State, but we must look a little further and understand that the well known Chabad attempts to draw the public into more religious observance can be very irritating for a lot of reasons. Ramat Aviv in particular has been subjected to agitation about the perceived "infiltration" of religiously observant residents who choose to wear old fashioned black outfits.
2. chabad often hassle people to put on tefillin
tsfatisha ,   tsfat   (06.04.12)
it's one thing to have a small stand to give people the opportunity to put on tefillin, it's another thing to hassle people into putting on tefillin. chabad can be often be quite annoying and insistent in their zeal to encourage men to put on tefillin. they need to make an arrangement with the mall so that they can have a small stand somewhere in the mall where they can invite guys to put on tefillin (which they can probably even afford to pay for!) and the rest of the mall they leave people alone. that way everyone is happy, after all there are guys who would like to put on tefillin but for one reason or another haven't been able to that day -either don't have their own, or haven't had time, misplaced them, been stranded without them etc.
3. Was it against all chareidim or just this one?
Daniel (Chareidi) ,   Gateshead, UK   (06.04.12)
Chabad can be extremely pushy, especially in Ramat Aviv I believe. The management of the mall has no obligation to let missionaries enter the mall and attempt to force ideologies on people. Banning entry to these Chabad people whose only purpose for coming to the mall is "putting on tefillin" is entirely justified. If the policy were, on the other hand, "all chareidim are banned", that would be something else entirely and completely shocking. From the story as I understand it at the moment, however, the management simply wanted to keep this single one out. I am chareidi myself, and I think Chabad do a very nice thing. However, they shouldn't force it on people, and if the mall's management wants them not to be there, then they should simply go somewhere else. Maybe they can stand just outside, near a parking lot, something like that. The mall's management is completely within its rights to demand that they leave the premises altogether, I believe. This is not an issue of religion, simply a question of law - what is allowed, and what is not. For a shopping mall to prevent entry by people whose only purpose for coming there is to play missionary is probably entirely legal.
4. harassment by WHO?
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (06.04.12)
Who was more harassed: the Chabad man or the shoppers? From the video it seems that the Chabad man was prevented from entering the mall, he did not seem harassing anyone, but the mall's security team seemed very belligerent. I vote for the Mall's team as very active harassers that should be axed. The Chabad man seemed very sweet and non-belligerent.
5. It works both ways
Davi ,   Mevessaret Zion   (06.04.12)
When we lived in Ramat Beth Shemesh, she was not allowed to enter the supermarket because she wore pants. She was fully covered, modestly dressed but wearing pants. At the Kottel, my daughter was wearing a dress down to her knees at my son's Bar Mitzvah. She was told this was not long enough and asked to put on a covering which I refused to let happen. At my son's swearing in ceremony at the Kotel, we were told to move since we were standing at the entrance to the women's section. We are a very traditional family but were basically driven out of Ramat Beth Shemesh where we lived long before the Haredi take over. It is time for the religious world to take responsibility for the negative responses that many take towards them.
6. Any record of the Mall Guards
BEN JABO (MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (06.04.12)

8. Are Israelis aware that by...
Helene Einhorn ,   JERUSALEM Antwerp   (06.04.12)
banning entry to all Charedis because of some pushy [ they are mostly discreet] Habadniks , they give green light to the nations , to treating the same way Israelis ..due to the famous bad behaviour of some of them,[ a minority] in hotels malls, planes and so forth. The way Israelis think about Haredis sets the standard for other nations how to think about Israelis. Someday Israel will be free of all prejudice, and love all Jews with different opinions, equally. Someday,someday...Start right now.
9. When their kids are missing in Far East
NotinOurNeighborhood ,   Jerusalem Israel   (06.04.12)

11. shopping mall
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (06.04.12)
It was not right to turn away the haredi man, instead the mall owners, should place signs,no proselytising,or other religious activity permitted on the premises.

18. ramat aviv mall
ariel wolkowicki ,   israel   (06.08.12)
i lived for 2 years next to the mall and got to know the chabadics. the area around the mall his a lot of black hats to not let them in is going to kill the mall in the long run. lets not forget there is large supermarkets that is part of the mall. and this mall is a kosher food court where there are not a lot of other cafes you can go to. so why close your self to this big market.
