Yes, they're seeking better lives, yes, that's understandable - but as a very small country with its own serious struggles, Israel cannot be expected to welcome and tend to them. I was so sad to read this peace of fiction being filed as if it were a piece if researched article. First of all please read about what Eritreans are escaping from. Please also read and watch many documentaries actually researched and made of the way Eritreans arrive to Israel. And just as an additional piece of information, those "Dirty, ignorant, pimps and thiefs" were one of the very few nations "known as Axum, that accepted and provided a home for Jews for more than a thousand years. But apparently our memory not only does not extend to this time but not even 60 years when Jews were on the other end of this being called the very things that you are calling this people.

This is sad. Eritreans are one of the most respectful people who live spread around the globe with minimal crime rate. The writer is an Ethiopian Jew. Any one that knows the history of Ethiopia and Eritrea knows what this writer is up to. The root cause of all this problems is found in Ethiopia. If Ethiopia would abide by international rule and leave the Eritreans alone, all this wouldn't happen. The vast majority of Ethiopian Jews didn't exactly follow local political and ethnic conflicts - they were too busy being on the receiving end of them. Ethiopian Jews were a persecuted minority in Ethiopia, and I sincerely doubt they had much time or interest (excepting, perhaps, the most integrated of them who had also publicly converted to Christianity) in hating Eritrea.

the full version which appeared in yidiot last week had more details which would refute some of the comments made by some commenters, such as how he communicated with them and managed to pass as eritrean from a border area, which explained his limited language faculties. i can see not wanting enormous masses of "infiltrators" but this kind of language is certainly reminiscent of some unfortunate times in jewish history. i suppose it's easy for me to say, in north tel aviv. the rule of law is important, but it's hardly true that only the "infiltrators" are committing crime. get serious about solving all crimes, and i won't see the complaints about the "infiltrators" for what they are---racism.

Expecting an Ethiopian Jewish to say something good about an Eritrean refugee is like expecting a Palestinian muslim to say something good about an israeli Jewish....could happen, but very rare!!!! There are so many documentaries made based on the facts that many young people die on Egyptian deserts while trying to reach a 'safer' country....and some who reached Israel are mistreated. It is very sad to read this kind of article in 2012. First of all, no one is forced to pay the 2% and you can ask any Eritrea in Diaspora and they will tell you that no one in Eritrea is punished for not paying it. During the war with the Arabs, this may surprise you but, Eritrea was feeding the people of Israel with Red Sea fish and don't forget Incode, the meet packaging company that was in Eritrea. You see learn the history, Eritrea has done more good to Israel, than Israelis did for Eritreans. They were actually helping Ethiopians with training the Ethiopian commandos and supplying arms that was killing Eritreans during the Independence struggle. But this is how you pay us back? When Eritrea seceded from Ethiopia 21 years ago their plan and motto was to be the "African Israel" that did not materalize. now they applying plan "B" which is abandoning Eritrea and acting like ex solders and living in Israel park. what a night mare.
