1. Why didn't Israel intercept it?
Commentator   (06.08.12)
If this was indeed a missile, why didn't the anti-ballistic missiles Arrow 2 or the Patriots intercept it? Luckily, this was just a failed missile test. What would happen if this was a hostile missile fired at Israel?
2. And what happen with arrow sistem?
LBS ,   Chile / Israel   (06.08.12)
and if it was a missile, what happen with the arrow system that it dint shoot it down?.
3. Arrow is operational
Dan   (06.08.12)
The missile was not intercepted because the arrow system knew that it was not a threat to Israel security. But the object was closely monitored. The IAI thought it was a decoy to an attack and did not respond to not give opportunity to the supposed enemy.
4. It was SEEN from Israel and other countries...
Jonathan   (06.08.12)
... it did not FALL in Israel. Do you really think that the Israelis did not know about this? Come on... ;-)
5. 1 & 2 dumber than dumb
Stephen in New York   (06.08.12)
Arrow didn't engage causa Russkie rocket far, far away and no threat to Israel or anybody else.
6. Because it wasn't
EditorJP ,   NYC, NY   (06.08.12)
aimed at Israel.... Maybe your readers need to check a box acknowledging they READ THE ARTICLE before being allowed to comment.
7. #2 It wasn't in Israel
Michael ,   West Jerusalem   (06.08.12)
It was in Lebanon.

Arrow 2 is compatible to intercept Middle Eastern missiles only. Russian missiles can distroy any tiny country within one or two days.
9. No Communication
Joe Sombrero ,   USA   (06.08.12)
Interesting the Russians did not communicate with Israel which is customary to avoid mis understandings as the US does with other countries during those test.
10. #2 - make homework in Wikipedia:

1. Arrow (missile) 2. Topol-M 3. Don't compare your toy's with strategic weapons big Daddy's...
11. More likely the Gazans testing their latest missiles
Rana   (06.08.12)
But they need a bit more accuracy if they are to be effective.
12. I saw it
Keren, IL-BR   (06.08.12)
I saw it tonight. It was bright and moved in a ackward way. It could not be a missile.
13. This is only scary
Ze'ev ,   USA   (06.08.12)
if the IDF found out about it from people reporting the lights. I sure hope that all those satellites let the military know when an ICBM has been fired long before it gets anywhere close.
14. #1 and #2
Ze'ev ,   USA   (06.08.12)
If it was an ICBM, then it was flying way beyond the reach of any of those systems. ICBMs fly out into space, and their payloads re-enter once over their target. That is why Iran developing rockets capable of launching satellites is so worrisome. If you can put a satellite up there, you have a short walk to ICBM capabilities.
15. Didnt intercept?
ME ,   USA   (06.08.12)
Why intercept if it's not a threat? Gee whiz.

Of course. We remember Iraq's SCUDs. Big Daddy couldn't hit a barn door. Moreover, the missile seemed to have fizzled out and die. Back to the drawing board for "Big Daddy," sonny boy. If Israel were to test its intercontinental ballistic missiles at -- oh, say, Moscow -- those ugly onion domes are going bye-bye. Along with the rest of your dreary, ugly city. You do realize that, I hope. Or would you rather learn the hard way?

And of course Russias 4000 ICBM's will stay in their silos whilst Israel destroys Moscow. I suggest you seek help. Your hatred for everything Goy is skewing your world view, and your support for Israel whilst living in the US will destroy Israel
18. thanks Putin...that's all we need in such a peaceful region.

Excuse me, but that test ICBM was fired from Siberia and aimed at Kazakhstan. Seems to have gone a bit off course, gyroscopes gone. OOPS! Get back to your vodka, hunny bunny. Russia is dead in the water. The U.S. may be afraid of Russia (can't think why, though) but Israel decidedly is not. Russia cannot even handle the uprisings in Chechen, and you expect them to prove a challenge to Israel? Think again, you drunken fool.

Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.08.12)
I do not hate everything "goy." I merely ridicule it. There's a vast bit of difference, boychik. A missile test-fired from Siberia aimed at Kazakhstan ends up visible in Israel. Who wouldn't laugh?
24. # 9 Communication
Amichai ,   Huntsville, US   (06.08.12)
Just because the Israeli population didn't know anything about it, doesn't mean that the Israeli government didn't. And for the people asking why the Arrow system didn't intercept, refer to Dan's post #3. I worked for the US Missile Defense Agency. We worked extremely close with Israel & gained much of our intercept capabilities from the Arrow project, which is why we've funded the hell out of it. We believed in Arrow so much that we've spent more on its development than Israel has. We still have MDA people working in Tel-Aviv to this day.

Zivron   (06.08.12)
The world especially Israel Jew and Gentile needs think survivability underground underwater in space to save at least some of humankind as in deep impact the movie and contagion another film.Maybe decades away but fear is beneficial as when the Jews ran with the Russian army and further to siberia
27. Topol + Bulava?
Arthur Borges ,   Zhengzhou, China   (06.09.12)
Yep, Moscow confirmed that it had put a Topol through to target in Kazakhstan. However, VoltaireNet reports a Bulava launch from a Borey submarine in the Mediterranean. If that is correct, the timeline argues it is a response to US statements about unilateral intervention in Syria. Mirved up to 10 warheads apiece and designed with the US missile shield in mind, they might be hard to stop.
28. Seriously folks...
Mike Franklin ,   Alabama, US   (06.10.12)
Do the light shows inspire Russian missile firings? Or do the missile firings (2 different types!) create the show?
29. What would happen if this was a hostile missile fired at Isr
What would happen if   (06.13.12)
welll i wonder.....
