1. Who cares what this assimilated mostly nonJewish group does?
(06.12.12)
2. Rabbi's wife = Rabbanit
Pinny ,   Bat Yam   (06.12.12)
Female rabbi= Rabbit They are no less rabbis than their male counterparts
3. Reform Joke
Jake in Jerusalem ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (06.12.12)
In NYC, I would sometimes see couples, both Reform "rabbis". There were bunches of them. It was easy to recognize them. He does NOT wear a Kippa, because he is a Reform "rabbi". She DOES wear a Kippa - and for exactly the same reason! :-) These people are a joke. And secular Israelis don't need fraudulent "rabbis" to make them feel better about not being observant. The Reform movement in Israel has no market.
4. #1 &3: Your hatred is disgusting
Carl ,   USA   (06.12.12)
Real Jews are able to focus above the neck and what is in the heart, not on genitalia. Judaism does not equate to clothing from the shtetels and practices based on antiquated gender roles with no basis in Torah. Your hateful speech denigrating fellow Jews is decidedly non-Jewish!
5. Hello Rabbits!
Israeli 2   (06.12.12)
Please allow me to ask any of you a couple of questions. When Mom and Dad and children gather around Shabbat table for Kiddush and breaking the bread, who does the bracha? Why?
6. Does it matter if the cheeseburger eating rabbi is a woman?
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (06.12.12)
7. fanatics 0-1 OPEN MINDED.
hot snow ,   tlv   (06.12.12)
8. female rabbis
Julie ,   Israel   (06.12.12)
My personal observations of reform rabbis: 1) one was seen breast feeding her child while conducting Yom Kippur services. 2) Another Synagogue service contained no Torah readings but plenty of guitar playing. 3)A female rabbi, when asked about the 7 species, said she couldn't recollect anything about it at the moment but that she would look it up! I am steering clear f these ersatz rabbis.
9. Reform
Sane ,   Manchester England   (06.12.12)
Reform don't actually believe in Judaism, so to use the term 'Rabbi' is an insult.
10. Reform has a role to pay in Israel
rebecca ,   Modiin   (06.12.12)
I just wish they would admit that they do not practice Judaism, Just a watered down version of Judaism, that should have and should always be called by another name, to prevent confusion.
11. Why are you so hateful Bunny????
sarah ,   NYC   (06.12.12)
Bunny - I wonder why you would assume that a Reform Rabbi would eat a cheeseburger. Did you see something in this arcicle that implies that any of the people mentioned in this artile DON'T keep kosher?
12. recognition depends on their appearance
no name ,   no place   (06.12.12)
It is not important what they say, it ain't so important how they say it, what counts by us men, is how they look. If your gonna talk the talk, you gatta walk that walk, babe!
13. reform
sealift67 ,   fair oaks ca   (06.13.12)
This movement of reform began in Germany but took strong hold largely in US southern cities at first due to fear of looking and behaving 'different'. Many Halachic rules became optional but the movement maintained a lively discourse re debating teaching Hebrew to youth, transliterated texts, gender equality etc. It fit very well in a secular, pluralistic society with open discourse. Israel is by and large far too rigid, paranoid, hypocritical and hostile for this type of fluid process (despite the innumerable changes to Judaic practices over the millennia). An interesting thing though has occurred to those who read the reform literature. Hebraic studies, liturgy, kashrut, music, art and something frequently lost in Israel, spirit of mitzvot. To return to Judiaism by choice and with choice, would not Yashem smile upon this or would nasty jokes be hurled. Would such Jews be turned away for not wearing 19th century Polish garb and for not following latter day priest rules? One must find one's way across the desert, or your rigid clinging to sands of endless judgement will sentence you to the desert until your soul is burnished with love.
14. Female Rabbis and Cheeseburgers
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (06.13.12)
If everyone, male and female rabbis included, never did anything worse in their lives than to eat a cheeseburger now and then, the world would be in pretty good shape, wouldn't it?
15. Reformism is an ilusion!
Shlomo ,   BsAs   (06.13.12)
It has no substance. If a jew wants to drive car on shabbat he or she can do so. There is no need to create a whole new religion based on that. The only point of reformism is that it makes assimilation more comfortable and it delays one generation more. Thats it. S
16. Good news and about time to
Haim ,   TA   (06.13.12)
Welcome to the 21st century, time to break the stranglehold of the ultra orthodox on our lives and let people choose how they want to worship. Well done to these women in paving the way, and hopefully more to come
17. Female Rabbis
sara   (06.13.12)
They can label themselves as they like, but they are not rabbis. We have enough problems in Israel without these assimilated groups trying to wipe out the last vestiges of Judaism. Go someplace else!
18. NOT KOSHER!! THAT SIMPLE
Efraim ,   in Virginia   (06.13.12)
19. #11 First the reform don't believe in kashrut. Second, when
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (06.13.12)
we were working for one my my former customers, a reform rabbi, cheeseburgers were brought back for everyone from a fast food restaurant. I wasn't that hungry. Either you have some concept of the Torah or you don't.
20. If They Can Call Themselves Rabbis....
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (06.13.12)
I can call myself a doctor. I can open up a clinic and perform surgery. Or maybe I'll call myself a policeman and begin to arrest people. Or a cowboy and shoot bad guys. Gee. What do I want to play today?
21. Schlomo , 15 and others
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.13.12)
Many years ago i talked to a French liberal rabbi . He said that he prefered people to come to the Synagogue by car on Shabbat over staying away and loosing all contacts with Judaism . Was'nt he right ?
22. "That is precisely why the reform movement can act as a dam"
js ,   Israel   (06.13.12)
83 percent intermarriage. The dam burst in Germany in the 1800's when this sham religion was invented..
23. @21 Is he right - Yes and No
rebecca ,   Modiin   (06.13.12)
It's one thing preferring people to come to Synagogue, even if by car. It's quite another thing to say the car is fine. The difference is like teaching right from wrong.
24. In America religion is a participation sponsored event
Al   (06.13.12)
in other words you pay as you go. The deformed movement along with the orthoquack in Israel are all in the business of gettting government money to spew their agenda. Precious little of what these two groups offer has anything to do with our religion. To my mind both these groups are in the schnorrer business. They are not in the business of improving peoples lives.
25. Rebecca 23 . Who said the car is fine ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.13.12)
26. 23 Rebecca , who said that a car is fine ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.13.12)
27. Tradition v's Innovation ...take poll
RSeener ,   London England   (06.13.12)
28. The Sephardi Perspective
Judah ,   Jerusalem   (06.13.12)
One congregation for all - orthodox. Observence level - up to the individual. Rabbis - all men. Power behind the Rabbis - on this good earth - their wives. And the food - much tastier. It works - whats with all this communtiy splits and machloket.
29. #24
Shmuel ,   Brazil   (07.07.12)
in my country, during Rosh ha Shanah and Yom Kippur, you have to give them money if you go up to the Torah reading, did you know? They say the synagogue needs money...I left Reform ideology, it's nothing else than ideology! You are absolutely correct when you say that "They are not in the business of improving peoples lives". That's Reform and conservative in Brazil. They want money, just money.
30. Free choice
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (07.08.12)
Although I am on the Haredi end of the religious spectrum I wish them well as teachers and preachers. Where there is some confusion is on the Orthodox 'establishment'. Israel law is based on the unwritten British constitution that give official status to the Church of England while allowing all other religions to operate and pay their own bills. Israel provides an Halachic rabbi, a synagogue and a mikveh to every Jewish community. Reform and Conservative are fully allowed to build their own temples and appoint their own rabbis -- but they are not automatically entitled to govt salaries. Othyerwise the next step would be for the Govt to provide 3 synagogues 3 rabbis and 3 mikvehs for every Jewish community. Marriage, divorce and conversion must remain consistent and Halachic as set out in the status quo agreement.
