1. We will NEVER win the hasbara battle - ever!
Patriotic Israeli ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (06.13.12)
BECAUSE the world as a whole is anti-semetic and anti-Israel. The smart countries are the ones that "pretend" to be our friend. Hasbara can NEVER overcome raw latent pure Jew-hatred! No need to even try! We should just do what is good for us... and let the anti-Semitic world stew in their own anger and hatred!
2. Constant PR failures
Yakov ,   Tel Aviv   (06.13.12)
The failure on PR, is hardly limited to the Gaza debacle. The Palestinians, the terrorists, and a long list of Israeli and Jewish detractors, know our PR machine is broken. How else to explain, that terrorist organizations, have garnered world-wide support, while we are often viewed as supporting apartheid? How is it, that children are taught hatred in Gaza, but this will never come to light, as it is our responsibility to do so? In many ways, the biggest threat to our existence, has been the absence of any salient response, to the terrorist's PR machine. We have dug our own PR nightmare, and it is going to take some real spinning, to extricate ourselves from it.
3. AS MELANIE PHILIPS SAID....
FO ,   Belgium   (06.13.12)
As Melanie Philips said in an interview to the Israeli tv,: " Israeli Hasbara is a JOKE" . It has always been a joke, it is a joke, and unfortunately, I'm afraid, it will remain a joke !
4. Hasbara!!!!
dr harry ,   jerusalem   (06.13.12)
#1, I agree with you 1000%. The REAL problem is that Israel doesn't know what to do for itself. Their reaction comes (too late) after hearing the Worlds reaction, living their constant fear of the old saying "What will the World say about us" There is no such thing as Pal arabs, but Peres in the USA, telling the world, that Israel is helping build this non existence Nation. Who at the end want to destroy us. How far will this SICKNESS go. The government has no time for real issues, too busy making sure that Authors of Books make money.
5. Losing the PR-battle.....
tiki ,   belgium   (06.13.12)
But winning the WAR !! One should never lose focus on what's more important! JEWS will never win the PR-war but must make sure never to lose the survival-war, for the hyena's of the world are waiting with open, saliving jaws for that to happen. The Palies have 'won the PR-war and are so loved & popular. Look what all that love has brought them!
6. Israel will never win the PR war--so,...
Jake Stone ,   USA   (06.13.12)
...here's how I see it: 9 dead terrorists...0 dead Israelis. Israel wins! So let's move on and get ready for the next PR flap, which Israel will lose, again; but, no matter...just keep winning in the box-score! God bless, Israel; praying for the peace of Jerusalem!
7. #1: You are 100% Right!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (06.13.12)
The world has returned to age old Antisemitism and the "Palestinians" and the Jew hating Jews, have given those who hate Israel a new platform to vilify Jews and Israel. Hasbara and the little YouTube films made by Deputy FM Danny Ayalon are just preaching to the choir. You cannot force people with inborn hatred of Jews to see Israel's side of the story. Israel and World Jewry have to take a far more aggressive attitude and use their real power, MONEY and technology, to counter hatred! We must revert to the days when Jews did not by German products and use that platform to boycott countries, like South Africa, Norway, Sweden and Denmark who are openly encouraging boycotts against Israel. How many Jews know that Deutsche Bahn broke the contract to build the railway line to Jerusalem because of Palestinian pressure on the German Government which owns Deutsche Bahn? Jews should sell their portfolios of shares in companies that boycott Israel. Moneytalks. Bullshit walks!
8. why we lose
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (06.13.12)
For spokesmen and diplomatic corps, Israel carefully selects and pays only people who identify with the extreme Left. Just like the Sabra and Shatilla, Dura or Jeningrad blood libels, when shayetet were brutalized by professional IHH terrorists, Israel's official response to NGO propaganda was "we don't know what happened, We will investigate and punish the soldiers" instead of "We are shutting down the NGOs for libel. Anyone filmed on the Marmara participating in the riot will be jailed for at least 1 year. Soldiers who shot terrorists will get a cash bonus."
9. Invest in new government
Zeev ,   TA   (06.13.12)
The Israeli government is too busy playing internal politics to get anything done properly, domestically or internationally. Their actions not only don't help create a positive image of Israel abroad, but make us look like idiots.
10. JUST A WORD TO DAVID # 7
FO ,   Belgium   (06.13.12)
"The little You Tube made by Deputy FM Danny Ayalon" were indeed a good beginning, but never became part of Israeli official foreign affairs platform !
11. The hasbara vis-à-vis Arab states.
Jules   (06.13.12)
The State Comptroller is totally wrong on this issue: the FM cannot be responsible for the Arab-language propaganda in the Arab states, simply because there are no diplomatic relations between Israel and the majority of those states.
12. Photos came indeed too late
Finland   (06.13.12)
Israel should give it a try. There is Israeli good will ambassadors to US universities, for example. Both low level and high level Hasbara is helpful. I make Hasbara myself; we run blogs, contact journalists, write opinion pieces etc
13. report not needed for better coverup....
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (06.13.12)
You need a better maritime police policy. Disable the illegal vessels rather than board them. Use crowd control techniques rather than wartime navy seals for civilians. Dont put our boys in harms way so they have to fight their way out. Thats how you fight the PR battle.
14. #1 Patriotic Israeli
Eric ,   Atlanta USA   (06.13.12)
If you start off talking defeat, you will end up defeated, for certain. ( if you say you can't you won't) Israel needs to stand up and shout it's just postition loudly EVERY TIME on EVERY ISSUE. Then we will see who in the world believes what. If all they hear is the Arab lies, what else is there for them to believe!!!!??????
15. PR is Half the Battle
Dallas ,   Canada   (06.13.12)
It's long overdue that the Israeli government begin to take this seriously.
16. Hasbara battle
Floriane ,   Israel   (06.13.12)
#1 absolutly right we Will Never win and that's fixed right from the start like you said the world is against us and we should do what's good and safe for our people. In any case matter what we do we are always wrong
17. Israel and Turkey
Obsessive ,   Turkey   (06.13.12)
1. Jews have their own country which is suitable, democratic and MORAL for me. (I prefer using word "Jews" i/o Israel) 2. Jews have helped us many times. They want ONLY friendly relations. They are good enough for this region! 3. We are living in dangerous ME and We are alone. I want CIVILIZATION. At least for my future kids. 4. Attacking Israel. Forcing us to accept marginalisation of Israel in the region while friendly hypocritical relations with Christian and Muslim world. This pill doesnt work on me. NEVER EVER. PERIOD.
18. Offer the Hasbara role to Melanie Philips
Ted ,   UK   (06.13.12)
I'm not joking..if Israel brought in Mr. Fisher as a governer of the Bank of Israel ...why not offer this important job to someone who can do it properly, like Mrs. Philips..She is a brilliant voice for Israel and the jews in the UK...and I don't agree with all the talkbacks that claim that we don't need Hasbara..PR is as important in conflicts today as your best technology and weapons
19. #14 - You, too, miss the point.
Patriotic Israeli ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (06.13.12)
Explanations and hasbara ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE the world's opinion of the Jew. The opposite... I say: we do what we need to do, and we DON'T have to explain ourselves to ANYBODY! America doesn't AND NEITHER DO WE!
20. #15: None so blind as those that will not see!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (06.13.12)
You can conduct as much PR as you want but you cannot force people with hatred of Jews ingrained in them to even hear our side, never mind even becoming neutral. Islamaphobia, vilification of Israel by the Western media and, of course, the power of Arab money make it much easier to be pro-Arab/Palestinian. Put this together with a recent article on YnetNews that in a survey of German youth the majority thought that the "Jews probably deserved what they got from the Nazis". How does PR counter that?
21. One thing we can do is bankrupt the
Reuven   (06.13.12)
anti-Israel Haaretz, which is used as a source by much of the foreign media. Give thwe likes of Amira Haas, et al. a pink slip by totally boycotting that rag.
22. Face the facts
Stan ,   Israel   (06.13.12)
Most of those writing comments here claim that all criticism of Israel is Anti - Semitism which does, did and always will, exist. I see a constant increase in acts of Anti - Semitism. Why is this happening? Ask yourselves this question, and if you are prepared to be honest with yourself, and not continue to support Israel blindly, you will reach the same conclusion I did. 45 years of occupation has turned our friends agains us. Prof. Yeshayahu Leibowitz said more than 40 years ago that the occupation will destroy our Jewish Morals, he was correct. After the Six Day War in 1967, the communists and Third World countries condemned Israel. Now even our best friends including the USA tell us continuallythat the only solution is withdrawal, and the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel. (I will preempt any who wish to tell me that God gave US the land) JEWISH EXTREMISM WAS NEVER SUCCESSFUL. THE REVOLT 67 CE MESSADA BAR KOCHBA 135 CE
23. Response to Stan #22
Ed Frias   (06.13.12)
The barrier to Palestinian statehood has never been the Jews or the State of Israel. The Jews offered Arabs a two-state solution in 1919; accepted the two-state solution of the Peel Commission in 1937; accepted the UN two-state solution in 47-48. Israel offered the Palestinians a state in 2000; accepted the Clinton Parameters in 2000-01; and offered a state again at the end of 2008. The Palestinians rejected every offer, becoming the first people in history to reject a state 6 times and then set conditions for discussing another one. The Palestinians continue to assert they will never recognize a Jewish state. They can’t – it is inconsistent with their identity, and the purpose for which the Palestinian identity was forged. From the Palestinian standpoint, the “peace process” is not about peace, or even about a state, but about reversing history: they seek a state on the 1967 lines to reverse the 1967 war and seek to flood Israel with millions of Arabs to reverse the 1948 war — to return to the time before the wars the Arabs started and lost, and before there was a Jewish state. The real barrier to Palestinian statehood is Palestinian hatred, lies and Rejectionism. Why dont you go on Palmediawatch see how the Palestinians glorify terrorists who massacre Israeli civilians, names streets after these terrorists and talk how Israel will be eliminated.
24. Flotillas and Turkey
Dan Kelso   (06.13.12)
I may have missed the date, but when is the next flotilla leaving for Syria?
25. Excuse me
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.13.12)
Who cares about the "hasbara" battle? The MAVI MARMARA attempted to breach a fully legal and internationally-recognized blockade. The Palmer Report stated this clearly and unequivocally. The MAVI MARMARA, which claimed to be bringing "humanitarian" aid to Gaza, was found to be carrying a handful of old, mouldy blankets and one or two boxes of EXPIRED over-the-counter pharmaceuticals (aspirin). The MAVI MARMARA also carried terrorists and terrorism supporters aboard. Israel acted to defend its rights of sovereignty. Israel would have been WELL within its rights to blow the MAVI MARMARA out of the water. That's what most countries do to defend a fully legal and internationally recognized blockade. The defense of Israel's sovereign rights is not a matter of "hasbara." It doesn't matter what other entities think or do not think. Were it up to the international community, Israel should cease to exist. That's not going to happen, and if that offends the international community, too bad. The message is quite simple, and quite clear: if you send illegal blockade runners in order to attempt to violate Israel's fully legal and internationally recognized blockade, then be prepared to pay the price. This is not about public relations. It's about sovereignty. Anti-Semites are anti-Semites, and they won't change their minds based on public relations. So, I ask again: who cares? I'm sorry, but there are no issues here.
