on sunday, after eating my wife's shabbes cholent, I am able to fasten a tube to my other side and fuel our gas stove. It saves much money but does leave a peculiar odor in the house.
2. Littoral Combat Ships

Sadly the navy has cancelled its orders for the Littoral Combat Ships. There needs to be a rapid expansion in the surface fleet - there's currently hardly enough surface vessels to cover the coast, let alone these new facilities.

They government seems to make an excuse to cancel every plan for expanding the surface fleet ( as usual ). The navy are treated as the poor relative of the IDF that gets the scraps after the ground troops & air force get the lions share. There would be no Dolphins if it hadn't been for the fact Germany donated the first two and has heavily subsidised the others. When it comes to the surface fleet the most modern ships are the three SAAR 5 which are now twenty years old whilst the bulk of the fleet are the SAAR 4.5 from the 80s. First the navy wanted the LCS but that was to expensive. Then they wanted a stealth German corvette but the company was bought up by arabs so it was decided not to buy. Then they considered building under license an old German design ship which is inferior to the SAAR 5 but that fell through and after that it was supposed to be building a new larger SAAR 5.5 ship in Israel for both the navy and export and then that fell through. Now the money that had been set aside for the surface fleet has been withdrawn so looks like for now the navy will have on a navy whose surface fleet is small and ageing whilst countries like Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Iran all have much bigger and much more modern surface fleets which the Israel is no match for. Its just a shame the politicians & IDF top brass have never seen the value of the navy and think all problems are solved by F16s & Merkvas.
4. self generation is the future not gas
zionist forever   (06.15.12)
The future of Israel's energy needs should come from self generation. Its been law to instal solar water tanks in residential buildings for decades so why not introduce legislation ordering solar panels be put on all new builds. You can put a solar panel on the wall of a balcony to generate some electricity, put panels on the roof to power elevators & lighting in public areas. Like the water tanks this is extra and the power company can provide any extras needed, at the very least it will lower electricity bills. Railway stations are an ideal design to put large numbers of solar panels on. Industrial areas which are built from scratch can built with special solar walls which is a technology that already exists abroad. Companies can generate as much power as they need for their own needs and if they have a surplus they can sell it to the power company for a profit. This means as there is more self generation we don't need as many power plants so everybody is a winner. We should also be putting up more windmills in the Golan, right now there is only a small number of them but put up more and we can generate more power. The more power we generate from alternative sources like wind and solar then the less gas we need for our own needs which means more to export. Another thing we can do is stop supplying power to Gaza & palestinian controlled parts of Judea and Samaria make it the responsibility of Egypt because the palestinians use alot of the electricity generated and that means we need more power stations if we are going provide Israel with all its electricity needs.

One totally reliable source of natural gas is the overconsumption of baked beans for supper.

"the road to hell is paved with good intentions." practically and economically, "self generation" is no better than "self gratification". the actual cost of the power produced is roughly 10x higher than the rated capacity, because neither wind nor solar produces power 24/7. and there is no effective means of storing electricity at the utility scale. the national domestic hot water programme worked because it was well thought-out, by a trained physicist (and national hero). "self generation" is being pushed by people who choose to ignore the numbers.

EXCELLANT! TO SUM IT UP ALL ISRAEL NEEDS IS TO BE LEFT TO DO WHAT THEY DO BEST TO CREATE, TO BUILD INVENT ALL OF WHICH IMPROVES THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR ALL THE INHABITANTS OF G_D ' S WORLD. SHALOM TO ISERAL.

There IS currently tecnology that allows households to store energy in fuel cells. Japan and now the UK are the main markets for this technology. I think new buildings and certainly individual houses can afford to install a fuel cell (which is about the size of a car) in their basement of backyard; energy generated by solar or wind by the individual household or business can then be stored in the fuel cell when solar and wind are not active... Individual energy production and storage would also make Israel much safer in time of war, when the enemy will no doubt target our energy facilities. We would then have blackouts, our economy would tank, and people would suffer imeasurable LONG after the war ends (give how long it is to build, repair and how much things cost in this country). Individual energy production and storage should be a national security priority!
