1. They are looking for important info
Israeli grandma   (06.15.12)
The modern taboos on mentioning/ teaching anything relating to sex and normal adult behaviour as well as the overemphasis on "modest" dress for religious girls leaves them with basic life information seriously missing from their education. The plague of overexposure of the internet public to gross porn means that instead of getting some balanced and useful information for their adult lives from their parents and schools, they are getting garbage on line. When I was a teen, even novels were so empty of real life references to adult sex that there was no way of finding out the facts of life except from parents (rare) or school lessons (reproduction in the rabbit).Unless you lived on a farm that had animals. Today you can read pages of graphic "sex" in any modern novel but remain ignorant of real life functioning.
2. I don't believe it
Naftali ,   Israel   (06.15.12)
Sorry but this study is way off. Firstly there were 500 students polled that is a very small group to come to a conclusion. Second most of the ultra orthodox charedi do not have access to the internet so how are they going to porn sites. Also no frum girl let alone a charedi girl would admit that she was going to a porn site. I am not saying it doesn't happen but this "poll" is bogus.
3. Believe the young girl not the rabbi teacher.
Michael ,   California, USA   (06.15.12)
Girls reach out for "forbidden fruits" more than boys do. This is interesting and also promising, indicating free thinking is going on among religious girls. I am impressed.
4. It took Internet to show the religion-drugged masses, what a

12. just more blah blah trying to discredit anything
Julie ,   Israel   (06.15.12)
and anybody remotely religious or Torah observant.
13. Orthodox children have no clue...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.15.12)
what porn means. They most probably didn t understand the question.
14. #2 is correct; #5 is absurd
Shalom Hartman   (06.15.12)
At least 95% of hareidi girls either have no access to the internet or have filtered access only. Of the other 5% perhaps 10% would actually admit if they had seen a porn site. Jason - either you have a great imagination or these are not girls who anyone could truly call "religious" and definitely not "hareidi"
15. untrue
mordechai ,   israel   (06.15.12)
most hareidi girls dont have access to the internet
16. & that means adopt secular lifestyle ???
SecularPropaganda ,   Jerusalem Israel   (06.15.12)
What are ytou saying that you recommend that relgious youth adopt the promiscuous lifestyle of their secular counterparts God phorbid. Another attempt by the secular world/,media to draw the religious world into their dangerous self destructive net, THere is no limit to twhich the secular media YNET Yediot will go in their eternal attempt to destryoy the relgious community
17. Religious kids watch porn..secular kids make and post it
Al   (06.15.12)
18. #2&6 you have no idea. #1 is right on
Noa   (06.15.12)
Did you think that if you ban sex from the public eye and discourse then the human sexual urge disappears? It is like banning food for the hungry. Many people have difficulties in learning to live in a world full of food without over-eating, and so people have to learn to live in a word of sex without overreacting. Many seculars are doing pretty well,
19. Ora , So they are IGNORANT ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.15.12)
Another thingf i'll remember
20. # 13 Ora, U are soooo "innocent " !
hot snow ,   tlv   (06.15.12)
21. access to internet
iselin ,   Oslo, Norway   (06.15.12)
So the religious girls don't have access to internet at home, but what about internet cafes and call centers with computers? Wherever backpackers and tourists go, there are places where internet access can be bought easily and cheaply. Where there's a will, there's a way!
22. According to the talkbackers here and
Secular self-hating ,   Jew&religious haters   (06.15.12)
in many other sites, the non-religious are as gullible, naive and dumb as they come. Only secular religious haters would believe such lies as this author is trying to convince the public JUST to bash religious Jews. Most religious people don't even have access to internet and certainly not children or like someone mentioned, don't even understand what porn is. This writer and talkbakcers prove once again how JEALOUS the secular are from the religious.
23. One can not withold from anybody -
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (06.15.12)
- One of the most important things of human life. It is almost as importnt as eating. If One dont educate and learn the Discipline to Youths in this matter, they will by Natures Force do it themselves. All Girls in all Societys in all Times, are in the forefront of those tings, dont delude yourselves. Arn.Sweden.

In the statistic science, the number of people you choose to lead your study isn't as important as the quality and so the breed of the significant sample that you choose. In 1936, The Literary Digest made the biggest poll in the History, for the Presential Elections between Roosvelt (Dem) and Landon (Resp). Some 2,4 million people were asked by phone, who they would vote for. The poll showed that Landon will win, however, the sample wasn't representive enough, since in the Great Derpression only the wealthy Americans had phone in their home. So,as we all know, even if 2,4 million people were questioned, Roosvelt won with 60%, thanks to the poor Americans who didn't have phone. So 500 people, is more than enough for a study. I suppose, only Haredi kids who have access to the Internet were a questioned, which is logical when you read the question. But the issue is not to believe the figures or not, it's to analyze them. As you see, a tiny part of the Religious society have access to Internet and 30% of them go to adult sites. It mean that the Religous society don't teach kids how to use Internet and what is obvious for other kids, is completely unknown for the Haredim. First, we can see that they are unprepared for the Internet and if these figures will have a big impact, the 10% who have an Internet access will loose it because of the fear of their parents. However these figures don't really surprise me. When you see that a big part of American extremely religious Christian and Mormon girls quit their families and become the complete opposite of how their parents tried to educate them, it isn't surprising to see the exact same situation in the Haredi milieu. It's just a matter of time before the Haredim will experience a huge leak of young people willing to become non religious. A very few educated and modern people can support an invasive and restrictive religion in our days. So unless Haredim will change their ways, a huge part of them will leave and it wil cause a lot of additional social issues in Israel.
25. #10 and #14, he's right
Mike ,   Modi'in, Israel   (06.15.12)
I can attest to it as well. When I was a teenager, whenever girls from Beit Shemesh, Hashmonaim, Elad or even Beitar Ilit were invited to the party you knew you were going to get laid. My first girlfriend actually made me promise that I wouldn't hang out with Dati girls because she didn't feel comfortable with it. It was hysterical watching them talk to their parents though. "Yes mommy, we're just hanging out at Adi's house, we're going to the study group soon" "Why do I hear music in the background?" Oh, it's just a car passing by". You have no idea how much I grin whenever I see a Haredi person on the news explaining how secular girls are sluts and "sex objects". If only he knew what his own daughter was doing...
26. Believe It, Naftali!
emanon ,   USA   (06.15.12)
What, you never heard of Internet cafes or internet at a coffee shop? Borrowing a friend's Internet capable device if they do not have one themselves? A famous American writer, Samuel L Clemons (Mark Twain) said it best "Nothing tastes better than a snitched watermelon"!
27. Study seems flawed
Study seems flawed   (06.15.12)
There's a lot here that doesn't add up: Which Haredi girls were interviewed? Are they currently Haredi or OTD? I have a hard time believing that currently observant Haredi girl would even participate in such a study. If the girls are indeed OTD, then isn't it more likely that the increased interest in porn is part of their religious exploration and rejection, and not something common among the general Haredi population? How was porn defined? Artistic nudity or film nudity would could be perfectly acceptable to a Secular girl, but considered porn by a (former) Haredi one.
28. Maybe religous girls are just more honest?
tf ,   herzliya   (06.15.12)
There is very little way to verify the veracity of the responses. I suspect the numbers are higher all around. The very nature of the subject matter is such that respondents are going to reluctant to be completely truthful.
29. Honesty/Perspective
K.T. ,   Brooklyn   (06.15.12)
There are two factors here that the study overlooks: 1. Religious girls may be more honest in reporting their online visits, less willing to hide their online activity. 2. What a religious girl may think is a "sexually-oriented websites" may not be the same thing that a secular girl or the researchers in this study believe to be a "sexually-oriented websites." "Sexually-oriented websites" seems to be the term used by the study, not "porn sites" like this article interprets. Taking such flawed self-reporting statistics and making a broad conclusion is quite ridiculous. Although the study fails, it would be interesting to attain such data through a more objective and reliable method.

Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.15.12)
I can attest the same . Two "religious" girls i knew , abroad , many many years ago were going "out" in places where they hoped that no Jew could see them . They were very confused to see me there too on one occasion . Not hypocrisy , they too have "needs"
