Quite a few immigrants from ex-Soviet bloc countries arrived expecting a very easy life in Israel, despite some not being tied to Judaism. They arrived with the hope of getting wealthy just like illegal immigrants from Africa do, but couldn't get to the US. Now, they are pissed off they aren't treated special, that not everything in the country is in Russian, and hardships exist here as they did back home - and they want revenge. Many attacks by these immigrants have occurred as a result of this reason alone. If this guy wants to leave Israel and become "Palesitnian" then let him. He will lose ALL citizenship as "Palestine" is not a recognized country according to the ICC. And the IDF should make him understand that the minute he joins the "resistance", he will be a target without haste, and there will be no coming back to Israel, either as a citizen or to visit. I think its more like some kind of romantic vision of wanting to be the well trained soldier who had access to the best kit money can buy and who has probably lived a relatively comfortable life in Israel. Now he wants to go join the poor oppressed underdog join who has no money and their weapons are katusha rockets rather than Guided missiles and Merkava tanks. Palestinians though who have grown up with the real hardships would love to come to Israel but can't because they have no romantic ideas of becoming part of the underdog and fighting for a noble cause. Its like the guy who grew up super rich and never wanted for anything but then they start getting ideas about how romantic and fun it would be if he was also poor so he decides he wants to get rid of all his money and come live in the slums be one of the ordinary people. The people who were born in the slums of course probably think he is mad because they would welcome even a fraction of this persons wealth and they don't think being poor is romantic and would rather live in the mansion and drive the Ferrari he has now. Let him revoke his citizenship leave the country and experience a little bit of real hardship as he fights for the jobs that pay peanuts and needs to get special permission to come round visit his family. Once he is living the life he will be saying to himself why did I do such a stupid thing but by then he will no longer have his Israeli citizenship and the benefits that brings and of course he will be considered a traitor so he won't find it so easy to get back.
