1. The Prisoner Katsav
mea   (06.15.12)
Why water it down Ynetnews, are you afraid your sponsors will pull if Katsav's fan club calls your advertisers? The prisoner Katsav is a rapist, and the cat calls from the other cells were most likely not anything less than threats of sexual assault. Hmmmm I say, hhhmmm. Nothing less than interesting. And as for his so-called embarrassment, you're kidding nobody. Katsav is scared faux grasless. Finally his pedestal tips. Down goes the rapist Katsav. Thank you Cell block A or B or whatever it is, well done. You have managed to humble the prisoner Katsav. Well done.
2. No insulting in prisons
Wang Zuli ,   Shanghai   (06.15.12)
In China prisoners are polite, respectful and they are not threatening. People feel secure in prisons. I trust that Israeli prisoners must learn to be polite.
3. Protect him!!
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (06.15.12)
The Prison Service has the obligation to protect all prisoners from threats.
4. #2
Thomas ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (06.15.12)
Could it be that the rules are "different" in China?.
5. Please respect each other
Wang Zuli ,   Shanghai   (06.15.12)
I am wanting to add to my prior comment. If people respect each other there is no fights. I am wondering why westerners do not respect older people. Please learn Confucius..
6. The diff between # 1 & # 2
JOE ,   London, UK   (06.15.12)
I have learned a great deal from reading the first 2 posts. To #!1, I hope you now feel better and that it 'felt good' to vent your anger at your last ex president. At #2, I take my hat off to you and apologize on behalf of the Jewish people, prisoners and comments from #1 for acting in this manner. We can learn from the Chinese as indeed I have done in the last 10 minutes! Shabbat Shalom!
7. Why is Katzav in prison in the first place?
(06.15.12)
Did the judge actually watch him commit the crime? May these judged the way they judge others.
8. oh my! u mean they aren't going to ask first...?
(06.15.12)
....you mean that they are just going to, well you know, without asking his permission? Isn't that rape? oh right that was Prisoner Katsav's defense...it wasn't rape it was consensual sex...well opps...oh my!...
9. @6 Only G-d can apologize on behalf of ALL Jews....
Israela ,   Israel   (06.15.12)
so do me a favor, apologize for yourself exclusively and leave me out of it! Which is to say: Old bean you are being presumptuous and pompous! Really you don't speak for me or any other Jew except for yourself!
10. Shame on the Israeli Justice system!
Ram ,   London   (06.15.12)
Regardless of my personal view regarding his guilt or innocence, this man SHOULD NOT have been imprisoned with common criminals! Fine, the system found him guilty and he should be punished accordingly. We are talking about an ex-president who has not demonstrated himself to be common rapist, grabbing women from the streets or invading homes. He clearly is NOT a dangerous man. He should have been remanded to house arrest or some other form of incarceration that takes into consideration his previous high standing in society. I await the aggressive responses from those who refuse to apply logic to this man's predicament.
11. i suspect a PR stunt here
sweeter than honey ,   far away   (06.15.12)
in that now that we believe (because we read it in the israeli press) that this "poor man", who never really abused anyone, just a polite misunderstanding you see, has "suffered enough", and is thus fit for early release on parole, without objection. as if the israeli justice system doesn't know what it is doing too.
12. Dear Joe, the evangelical #6
mea   (06.15.12)
Unnail yourself and slip down off the cross, old bean. Nobody cares if you are offended by a rapist being called what he is. Katsav the rapist (cup ear here) shat upon every Jew when he raped on behalf of the nation and again as he walked into prison without admitting his crime nor apologizing for it. Angry and indignant, HE never saw the fortuitousness of remorse. The prisoners of cell block B have enlightened the prisoner Katsav and I thank them for achieving what the entire nation and court system could not achieve: penetrating his massive ego. He rocks off his pedestal and falls into the arms of whom? Misguided, angry men with identity problems, so fragile like himself they cannot tolerate talkbacks.
13. I can't know is he guilty or innocent
2Mad ,   ירושלים, ארץ ישראל   (06.15.12)
But he was jailed after flawed investigation, facts he brought were flatly dismissed, and was condamned by very partial judges. So it's kind of normal that beasts smells the victim, and claim their bite too.
14. 2 Wang Zuli, Shanhai: Prisoners in China are sooo politely
(06.15.12)
arrested for no criminal reasons, used a slave labor or murdered without justification and the family is sent a bill for the bullet that killed their mother, father, brother, sister, son, daughter. Better to be called names in an Israeli prison than to be murdered in a Chinese one since 70 million Chinese were murdered under Mao Tse Tung alone. China murders unborn babies every day. A Chinese woman was just forced to have a third trimester abortion because she couldn't pay the fine for having a second child. The judgment on China for unlawful murder is going to be the total destruction of China in World War III. As many as have been murdered, unborn or after birth or as adults or children will be how many will die in China in one day, I expect. Most will go to hell, unlike the Jews where half go to hell, not all.
15. 5 Wang Zuli, Shanghai: Why don't Chinese respect the unborn?
(06.15.12)
Murder of the unborn and of prisoners without lawful reasons to the Lord is not respect of the young. You don't euthanize the elderly as useless eaters like the West. You kill the young!
16. To: No. 1
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.15.12)
Katsav was railroaded. The evidence was flimsy at best, and the ONE complainant has a less than stellar past. It seems that she has cried "rape" before, and has a minor criminal record. You're a fool. You should keep your silly ramblings to yourself. It is clear that you have an axe to grind with respect to Katsav. Your reasons are your own; don't bother sharing them. No one's really interested in what you have to say.
17. To: No. 2
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.15.12)
I take it that you are speaking from personal, first-hand experience. Sorry to learn that you have served prison time in China.
18. #2 China: a better class of rapists.
mea   (06.15.12)
Number two, It is heartening to know that the supporters of the rapists of China hold themselves to a higher standard of politeness. btw, I am amazed how much nicer Chinese prisoners are when they know they could selected for involuntary organ donation, then taken out and shot in the prison courtyard so some rich Chinese A-hole in Shanghai can save him self by ordering up a new set of kidneys from some poor slob who is too disadvantaged to defend himself. Good to know the whole episode could go down without a wrinkle in the collective mindset that enables Chinese government sustainability in their ongoing quest to deny the basic humanitarian civil rights of tens of millions of people..
19. #16 Sarah B
Avi ,   Israel   (06.15.12)
Katsav is and will always be a convicted rapist. There is no if or may be about it. Learn to live with the facts Miss know it all poor excuse of an attorney...
20. What goes around comes around Mr. Katsav...
Moshe ,   Israel   (06.15.12)
Its pay back time for a convicted rapist.
21. Had he have to serve his time in An American jail
Al   (06.15.12)
he would have been history a long time ago. He deserves to be abused..He is a low life.
22. Sara #16
yigal ,   north   (06.15.12)
Any misfortune or hardship In prison, especially to a convicted rapist, Is added bonus. You declare you know better than the judges of his trial.("flimsy evidence") Well, you were not a judge at his trial and thankfully, the judges did an honest job (verdict) and did not bow to public pressure. His trial and sentencing were not about vindication, but about justice. And MR. Katzav sure exhausted all legal avenues and lost. Who cares whether he was a president or a janitor (no disrespect to janitors). You do the crime, you do the time and some.
23. #16 SARAH B

24. To: No. 19
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.16.12)
Do you think I don't recognize a railroad job when I see one? I know that Katsav is a convicted rapist. I also know that the so-called "evidence" would not have passed muster in the most grassroots of kangaroo courts. Katsav was not allowed to present witnesses to corroborate his innocence; he was not allowed to present character witnesses. Not even in limine. His accuser, on the other hand, was allowed to bring unsupported charges of rape, despite there being no rape kit in evidence (you don't wait years to bring charges); and the defense was forbidden to raise the point that she had cried "rape" before (the charges were dismissed for lack of evidence) and to introduce character evidence (she has a criminal record) -- the Court ruled it "irrelevant." The trial was over before it even started; the outcome was pre-determined and the whole episode a disgraceful sham. All in all, a very black day for Israeli jurisprudence.
25. To: No. 22
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.16.12)
You obviously do not know enough the law and the appropriate conduct of trials. So perhaps you should just shut up until you acquaint yourself with proper rules of evidence and the conduct of a trial before commenting. I'm pretty well plugged in to the Israeli legal community. Nearly everyone I have spoken to about this calls the Katsav trial a gross miscarriage of justice. It was a kangaroo court of the first water. Shut up; clearly you know nothing.
26. #16 and the rapist Katsav: a match made in heaven
Mea   (06.16.12)
Sure, the Prisoner Katsav is so pure and innocent he not only got taken for a sexual ride, but he couldn't defend himself in court and that is why he is now enjoying catcalls from his cell block mates. Maybe you can date him when he gets out. He sounds like your type. Get it into your thick head: rape: the definition of rape includes using your employment position in order to pressure a subordinate into a relationship. Katsav chose the bonehead because she was a flake, so what? He violated the law. Most rapes are against women with poorer circumstances or judgement and not randomly, hence the law. As for nobody caring about what I think, I note you not only read my post, but responded to it, so go tell yourself to shut up, you frigging idiot.

Agree 100%!

Rosie   (06.16.12)
The judges DID bow to public pressure.
29. Sarah "knows" the law ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.16.12)
In the same "way" she "talks" about other subjects where she shows her IGNORANCE . She a lawyer ? I have many doubts ! a LIAR , that's sure .
30. #24 Sarah B
Avi ,   Israel   (06.16.12)
Spare us your American conspiracy theories. One question I have for you Sarah B: Why does Israel want to conspire to convict a man who was a president? From the prosecutor to the Judge to the Jury, Were they all in on it? Or were they just stupid lacking the capacity to rationalize like your majesty; the superior Know it all Sarah B?
