1. News?
Israeli ,   Israel   (06.19.12)
I also made Aliyah to join the army. I have many friends who made Aliyah to join the army. This isn't exactly news. It's fairly common today for teenagers from all over to make aliyah to join the army.
2. Bye, Bye, Boca!
yoni ,   shomron   (06.19.12)
Welcome home, brothers! You've left the 'rat's mouth' (boca raton), to come into God's hands! Kol Hakavod!
3. Welcome and good luck
mabsurfing ,   Nahariya, Israel   (06.19.12)
Some Israelies should learn patriotism from these 2 brothers.
4. Naive
A Cohen ,   Israel   (06.19.12)
They sound rather naive as though they are going to some kind of holiday camp.
5. They will succeed for the simple reason that they want to
Al   (06.19.12)
God bless you boys.. Israel nees more of these and less of the airheads who run to India Thailand and other shitholes wanting to find themselves. These boys grew up in America, they undersood at a young age that their future is not there. They will be helped in Israel to gain their education after the army and they will succeed in their future lives. In time their parents may even join them. I can fully understand the parents anxiety. I deal with the anxiety of having children in Israel in the army every single day.
6. Re: Not News
Shoshi ,   Jerusalem   (06.19.12)
It may not be news exactly, but it's still commendable and always worth a mention. The fact that you and many of your friends made Aliya to join the Army, and that it's now fairly common for teens to make Aliya to join the Army, is commendable as well.
7. Welcome home.
Levi ,   Karmiel   (06.19.12)
Such a great thing..
8. @5
(06.19.12)
al, i hope god and israel keeps your kids safe and sound and i wish them many successes in israel after the army.
9. these american patriotic zionist boys
(06.19.12)
are worth millions more than the draft dodgers going to india and thailand to "find themselves", doing drugs, drinking and having no future or direction at all.
10. i am proud of them both aa well as #1 ...
(06.19.12)
i just hope that #1 will begin to see the importance of sharing stories like his and these young men with pride and honor.
11. welcome home to be poor at 35 and earn a wage you got at 16
Alon C   (06.19.12)
but kol hakavod for joining the IDF!
12. #11 YOU ARE MISTAKEN
DA URBAN POET ,   SAFED OPERA HOUSE   (06.19.12)
They earn MORE when they are 16 than they do when they are 35 and living in Israel .SUCKERS.
13. to #11 Alon
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (06.20.12)
...the fact that you don't have the mental capacity to succeed economically in Israel, doesn't prove that htese two brothers also don't. You must never have travelled around poor areas in Florida, by the way!
14. #4 Holiday Camp?
Susan ,   Kfar Saba   (06.20.12)
Believe it or not, some people, particularly young men, like military life. These two guys prefer to serve in their own Jewish army rather than that of the US, which also would have been commendable. My friend's son from Baltimore joined the army last summer. Its hard, but he loves it.
15. #13 put an American who hasn't done university into Israeli
Alon C   (06.20.12)
Job market with little no hebrew. And ask him in 5 years how he feels in his chosen career, let's be realistic. There are only so many English speaking customer service/marketing jobs one can do. I don't mean to be negative, neither am I speaking from experience. But just being realistic for many olim who grace our shores.
16. to Alon...
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (06.21.12)
you spent 5 years in Israel and picked up little to no Hebrew?!? You are not a desired commodity by ANY country. Stanley Fisher's Hebrew is almost as painful to listen to as is Henry Kissinger's English. They both rose to the top! Go back to Flatbush, maybe you can learn Ebonics and fit in with Al Sharpton!!
17. Kol Ha Kavod
Golani ,   Mi Ami, USA/Israel   (06.21.12)
I moved to Israel at the age of 18 and served 3 years in the IDF in a combat unit, many years ago. I also served in reserves. Those 3 years were difficult, but amazing and I would have missed out on so much if I had not done my service. There were some of the most valuable 3 years in my life. That background has given me the tools for success and my field happens to be in Counter Terrorism.
18. # 9
Mike Carmel ,   Rishon le Zion   (06.21.12)
You are wrong. Most of the Israeli kids who travel to India and Thailand do so AFTER they have FINISHED their army service, not before it.
19. Don't put them together in the IDF. That way, one might
Rivkah   (06.21.12)
survive the coming Psalms 83 war that is at the door.
20. #16 I am Israeli. My Hebrew is great!
Alon C   (06.21.12)
You get back to picking blue grass or whatever you describe yourself as these days and dream of jobs for the elite of society. It's great to positive but also be realistic. It's also great the retirement village allow you a few hours on line! They also offer training courses I imagine.
21. #16-contact me!
Froike ,   NY NY   (06.22.12)
22. These Two Fools Will Be Back In Boca In 3 Years
World Citizen ,   the world   (06.22.12)
Jewish children in Boca Raton are spoiled little rich kids. If these two like beating on defenseless Palestinian people they might enjoy their stay but when these two GI Joe wannabes see real combat against Hezbullah they will wet their pants and cry for Mommy. Then as soon as they can they will retreat back to their soft lives.
23. You are correct, this is not news...but Boca snobs have
Netanya ,   Netanya   (06.22.12)
no shame! They are rich and are really snobs, so here is this article. Guess your parents are not filthy rich snobs who can get an article in the paper for you. I am saying to you and all the others like you, col a cavod, you have my deepest respect and are welcome in my house for dinner at any time you choose. You are much more than anyone who has an article mentioning them. It is the ultimate sacrifice, joining IDF without family here and not getting recognition. G-d bless you and all the others who meet your high standard.
24. G-d Bless the Kaplan enlistees & their proud parents !
Moshe ,   Usa   (06.24.12)
25. Young fools. There going to learn the hard way.
Rich ,   Toronto, Canada   (06.24.12)
A few wealthy elite Jews are getting rich from all the weapons going to Israel, while brainwashed Jews are sacrificing body and soul on the front lines. It's time to wakeup now, people. You are living in a dream world.
26. Aliyah never mentioned once in bible, no Jerusalem in Torah
observer ,   Egypt   (06.24.12)
27.  Nr 4.25,26.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (06.25.12)
Nr 4. I would have gone also at my age of 60, but they would not take me in because of my age. long live IDF. Nr 25. Yes i aam Living in HASHEMS world and you are probaly an Ateistic Antitheistic Leftist. 26.So you are blind then and cant read. Arn.Sweden.
28. #27 contradictory halves
observer ,   Egypt   (06.25.12)
Jewishness is religion and nation. Being nation on apartheid basis contradicts the divine half of the Jews.
29. Clowns
Ambrose ,   USA   (06.26.12)
Big news. Two clowns from Boca Raton run off to Israel to join a third rate army while America is at war in Afghanistan. Stay there.
30. #26
Ben Ze'ev ,   Panama City Panama   (06.27.12)
I don't think you're correct somehow. I think there are numerous places in the Torah where "going up" to Zion, or to Jerusalem at festival times or even other times.was a holy action. Jerusalem and Zion are on a hill in the mountains, so they had to go up anyway to get there. The returning Zionists made it a centrepiece of Redeeming the Land, to "go up" (aliya) to Israel (or Jerusalem-same thing). If you go to shool, (let's assume you do) you see men "go up" (aliya) to the Torah reading. So aliya is bound up in reliious observance.
