1. Not Enough Space???

Conquer Jordan!
2. Israeli ilands
Avraham ,   Jerusalem   (06.18.12)
Good idea, particularly important for the security of Israel. It will also create some more living space to this very small strip of land where Israel stands now.
3. Another grab of ancestral pal land by Zionists
ab   (06.18.12)
will "Haaretz" read
4. the country is "running out of space"?!
nadav ,   tlv   (06.18.12)
i can't believe this statement was unchecked! Israel's southern part is almost completely empty! The North is also not very densely populated, nor is the Golan or the Judean desert. If the Americans built an enormous city, Las Vegas, in the middle of the desert 50 years ago, then Israel can certainly do the same in the 21st century!
5. Artifical islands
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (06.18.12)
An excellent idea, I support it. At least the arabs can not demand these to be "ancient palestinian lands".
6. environment
moshe ,   Tivon, Israel   (06.18.12)
Environmental groups MUST choose between trying to maintain Israel as it was OR using whatever logic and foresight, thinking: 1. to prepare Israel for the furure; 2.to anticipate a growing Israeli population. 3. aircraft N O I S E: reduced by an ISLAND airport. electricity generation more SECURITY afforded by island location ?? moshe

8. Hong Kong Picture
Marcel ,   San Jose, Costa Rica   (06.18.12)
To me, the picture looks like the old runway at Kai Tak. In the background, you can see the area of the old terminal buildings, which have now been torn down.
9. Good Idea,my Idea ?
yossi ,   norway   (06.18.12)
I have send that idea two times to YNET, i even have made a map to make you see , how the islands look like in the sea,all that i have made ready in 2001 .
10. Here's an idea
Maurice ,   Los Angeles, USA   (06.18.12)
Liberate the rest of Eretz Israel and there will be plenty of space.
11. What idiocy! Far cheaper to build in Negev, S. of Beersheva
Dr. L. Brnd ,   San Diego, USA   (06.18.12)
In the first place, nobody builds artificial islands in open ocean coasts, just in shallow bays, like Hong Kong or Japan's Narita. The cost would be astronomical to build strong enough to withstand sea storm and wave action. Put the airport and the factories and the base in the Negev south of Beersheva, by Mashabe-Saadeh, with an more efficient hiway and rail connector to TA area. Want to replace Sede Dov TA airport? Extend its footprint on pilings over the beach, like New York's Laguardia Airport, not on an artificial island! Heathrow international and the smaller domestic feeder Gatwick airport in London are connected by a commuter train, works very well.
12. To Yossi number 9, Norge
Ameridane ,   Århus, Denmark,   (06.18.12)
Yossi, you are wasting your time trying to suggest ANYTHING to Israelis- they simply think that THEY know everything! But one thing I can tell you though,. they are the world best complainers- they started complaining during Exodus and for the past 2-3000 years.
13. Plenty of space in Judea & Samaria, G-d gave it to Israel.

And you are probably the world's greatest idiot! Just read what you wrote! What a moron.
17. To ameridane,you are wrong
yossi ,   norway   (06.18.12)
to think that it is a wast . There is no country in the world like ISRAEL ,smart and strong ,you can read the EXODUS and understand that it was not easy, like you think .
18. Dear Ameri-Dane
The Prophetess ,   SC, USA   (06.18.12)
Are you a disenfranchised "Amer" -ican expat living in "Dane" - mark, with a very large chip on your shoulder? Am Yisrael Chai.
19. Marcel #8
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (06.18.12)
You are correct it is the Kai Tak Airport, which is closed. A very old picture.
20. Other solutions
Aharon   (06.18.12)
I agree with other comments that it would be cheaper and more practical to build in the Negev, Golan, and other less populated areas of the country. Although the islands shouldn't be totally overlooked. With the support of other countries, Israel could build and artificial island for the "palestinian" state in the middle of the med. That way they'll have their state and be out of the way.
21. Attractive idea. I love it....
Israeli 2   (06.18.12)
...in addition to the greater Israel promise....of course. We can even build airports on those islands and gulf courses, parks, attractions, hotels, residences, shopping malls. An additional boon to Israel's economy? Why not?
22. and what will happen to the so-glorified Israeli beaches?
Laura ,   Israel   (06.18.12)
and to tthe sea? and to the fishes? and to the ecosystem? What an horror. I hope it will never be implemented. I can smell the pollution already.
23.  Amit Bracha knows nothing worthy of consideration.
ralph   (06.18.12)
24. Who pays the bill?
Shmuel ,   Brazil   (06.19.12)
Good idea, but very expensive.
25. To number 11 Dr. L Brnd
Ameridane ,   Århus, Denmark,   (06.19.12)
What about Holland and the Gulf states? They built a large chunk of dry land. (and) The North Sea is a lot tougher than the Med! But of course you know a lot more than other people!
26. Pushed Into the Sea
Golden Dome ,   Washington, USA   (06.19.12)
I thought the Arabs were supposed to do this to the Israelis.
27. To nr 22 Laura
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (06.19.12)
Glorified beaches, it is a joke. These beaches like a beautifully looking cake full with salt. The Tel Aviv seashore promenade should be the most attractive place in the world, with carefully planned environment, parks and buildings. Instead it looks like a mixed picles conserve. All buildings to raze and build a new hotel chain with huge parks.
28. the solution is get people living in Israel not the coast
zionist forever   (06.19.12)
Israel's biggest problem is its ghetto culture where you have arabs living in the north mostly, Jews all crowded into the the centre and on the coast. We need to develop the whole country, it will be good for the economy because land won't be a premium which big business doesn't like and it will be good for everybody else because a natural result is housing prices will drop nationwide. Its also good for security because right now just aim your missile at the coast and your guaranteed mass casualties if we are living all over the country casualties are not as bad in wars. We also need the Yeshe to get their act together and stop building little outposts in Judea & Samaria for the sake of building as if its a drug and instead build in all of the PROMISED LAND. If the only land that matters to them is Judea & Samaria is there a point to having the rest of the country? I am all in favour of settlements that are built tactically and in smeller numbers in favour of people concentrating on developing the whole country, that is the zionist vision of the future not outposts in Judea & Samaria and its all part of biblical Judea. As for artificial islands they do have uses for things like power stations & airports nobody wants in their back yards but they are much more expensive that just building inland so its never going to happen.
29. Agree with #11 & #28
Amichai ,   Huntsville, US   (06.19.12)
The first thing that popped into my head was the Negev. There is plenty of space for an airport. The desalinization plant will have to be built somewhere on the coast though. How about in re-conquered Gush Katif? And the population can move towards the inner of the country. Everyone would love to live on the beach, but it's just not practical. Maintain low housing prices & promote high tech industry in the inner country and people will start migrating there.
30. This will ultimately happen in some way
There is NO Santa Cl ,   Alaska, USA   (06.19.12)
Israel will need artificial islands to handle its natural gas discoveries, especially for export. Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) is too dangerous to handle on present shoreline. In order to safely process and load LNG tankers, an artificial island is probably necessary. If you wan to see environmentalists (and others) scream, try building that LNG terminal on shore. An artificial island will ultimately be built in some way, shape, or form. It will happen because of natural gas if for no other reason.
