31. To Golden Dome
There is NO Santa Cl ,   Alaska, USA   (06.19.12)
ROFL!!! I hadn't thought of THAT. Your post was a funny twist on an old and otherwise sad cliche. Thank you for giving me something to laugh about.

Ameridane ,   Aarhus, Denmark   (06.19.12)
Did I step on somebody's tender toes?

A dike that keeps the ocean out is not the same as an island. A dike is vertically anchored to well above the water line, and has to resist nature on one side only. No one lives on a dike. An island will have nature’s forces from all sides, with people trying to conduct their lives and work. The Gulf is not as deep or large as the Med, and therefore the forces are much less. Thank you for your concern.
34. The Dutch have greatyly enlarged
Reuven   (06.20.12)
Holland (by a third) bny creating artificially made land in the North Sea. I wrote the late, great Prime Minister, Levi Eshkol, about tjhis idea in 1966.
35. #32 Amerinsane aks "Did I step on somebody's tender toes? "
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (06.19.12)
Amerinsane is the name suitable for you - you put your foot in your mouth everytime you make your idiotic comments.
36. How about Israel builds a subway system first?
daniel ,   israel   (06.20.12)
I am just saying. The light-rail in Jerusalem doesn't count.
37. # 17 re Exodus
Nina ,   NYC   (06.20.12)
The problem is that the so-called Exodus is now widely recognized as FICTION. Never happened. But you folks love fiction.
38. Re environmental concerns
Rem ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (06.20.12)
The statement that other artificial islands around the world have been built in bays and inlets is pertinently untrue. While such locations probably make the process cheaper and more straightforward (close it off with a dyke) nothing is impossible. Think of Dubai and the latest phase of the Maasvlakte near Rotterdam. Just hire one of the Dutch consultancies specialised in the field. The Negev has more options, too, though. But an airport and desalination plant somewhere off the gush Dan coast seems to me an interesting prospect.
39. How about birth control instead of having 8-12 children
Jay ,   Israel   (06.19.12)
We would be just okay if we would have proper family planning and not overpopulation by some religious people who think their genetical pool is so important to reproduce... Many countries with good wealth doing really well with replacement level fertility. But countries which overpopulate just going to face loads problems (especially when we run out of oil...)
40. Ask Singapore!
sk ,   USA   (06.20.12)
The tiny city-republic of Singapore has been reclaiming land for half a century and have added acres of it to their tiny republic. They've taken portions of small mountains and filled their seas, making high value real estate. Israel has a lot of rocks and small mountains.
41. isn't the Negev pretty empty?...
Jeff ,   US   (06.21.12)
42. Not a bad idea....
froike ,   NY NY   (06.20.12)
An island created for power, desalinization, natural gas processing, and an airport is a splendid idea. But it must be cost effective! The island will not house people, but industry.....As many have stated, let Israel build the island, but concurrently should build more communities in the Negev, Yehudah, and Shomron. Am Yisrael Chai!
43. Necessity dictates
Cameron ,   USA   (06.20.12)
What is the proposed time range from construction to finish?
44. #37 nina - the problem is...
solomon ,   bklyn   (06.21.12)
that anything someone believes is always "widely recognized" by the "entire world", etc. Some don't believe it happened. Many do. Widely recognized (because that is what you believe)? No.

49. Israel will never run out of land
Matt   (07.10.12)
The settlements are not constructed with the efficient use of space, plus we can build up. Secondly the artificial Islands also. Israel is a young country and due to its creation has a small population. Israel needs to plan for a future which the country has a population of 30 million not 8. That will be the case in the future.
50. Hmmm picky...
JGadlov   (07.01.13)

, ,   Israel   (07.01.13)
no one can decide for anyone how much children he/she should have. but people should be educated about family planning.
52. but it is possible to develop it.
''   (07.01.13)
at least large parts of the negev could be transformed into a heaven. For years it is a dream in Israel that the negev would be developed.
53. what about the Negev?
rinah ,   Ramat Negev   (07.27.13)
Why do people keep saying that Israel has no space whilst the Negev is still desolate?
54. What happened to nevatim
JewishHeart ,   Israel   (07.31.13)
Why not put international airport in Nevatim and boost economy of Negev?
