1. Good!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.18.12)
Given the upheaval in Egypt, it is important for Israel to send a message that Egypt's open and outrageous violations of the 1979 treaty has not gone unnoticed. Israel is aware of Egypt's troop buildups in the Sinai (a gross violation of the treaty) and Egypt's tacit acceptance (approval?) of increased anti-Israel terrorist activitiy stemming from the Sinai. Egypt had better tread very lightly. It won't take too much effort to take back the Sinai. Or, for that matter, to take the Canal. I assure you that shipping interests throughout the world would heave a huge sigh of relief should that come to pass. At the moment, Suez transit is down a staggering 70 percent. Coupled with the 90 percent decline in tourism and the failure of two consecutive cotton crops in Egypt -- well, that's not a good thing for Egypt. Basically, the country is broke. Their vaunted "Arab spring" has been hamstrung by the ruling military. Basically, Egypt is falling apart. Egypt's been put on notice. Let's see if they are smart enough to take the hint. Frankly -- I doubt it. We'll see. We'll see. I don't hold out much hope for them, though. Egypt has always been a disaster waiting to happen. It's happening.
2. escalation
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (06.18.12)
Who would have thought that importing Arafat to Israel with his army and then ethnically cleansing Gush Katif of Jews would not only bring four wars (so far) and subject Israel's population to rocket attack, but it would also turn the once peaceful Sinai into a "hot border"? The Zionists who make up 60% of the Israeli population predicted exactly this. Why does Netanyahu insist on following the failed policies of his predecessors, instead of listening to his voters who have been right every time?
3. Wouldn't be surprised
Sarah B   (06.18.12)
if Egypt moved some of their Abrams Tanks up to the border in response. Which of course is precisely what the terrorists want. Don't be surprised if they fire some anti tank missiles from the general direction of Egyptian Army positions to illicit a response from the Israelis. Netanyahu the idiot has fallen hook line and sinker into the trap.
4. With the nutjobs now in control...
David ,   Hartford USA   (06.18.12)
the path of Egypt is into the abyss of hardline Islam. "Renegotiate" a treaty? That's slang for "we're going to do what we want." This attack is only the start. Israel had better have its eyes wide open to prevent more such attacks. And had better return fire without any regard to 'proportionality.' The MB will try to control the terrorists (wink, wink) as best they can. We know they are their main supporters. Either the Egyptian military takes total control of the government or Egypt is lost to the civilized world.
5. Somehow I feel this quote may have less
Joe ,   Ohio,USA   (06.18.12)
to do with the truth on the ground and moe about politics. "The IDF has strong ties with the Egyptians forces, who are working tirelessly to thwart such incidents," he concluded."
6. the MB will demand the peace treaty be revoked
zionist forever   (06.18.12)
The Muslim Brotherhood have no great desire to uphold the peace treaty they object to on ideological grounds so they are looking for any excuse to revoke it without looking like bad guys in the eyes of the Egyptian public. Israel is moving tanks closer to the border so obviously Israel is breaching the treaty and preparing for war so time to tear up this treaty so Egypt can defend itself. If the treaty is going to survive we need Ahmed Shafik who is a former Mubarak and former army man because he understands how the real world works. If the Muslim Brotherhoods man wins it then they will have an ideological Islamist president.
7. never peace with Israel
Farook ,   Cairo   (06.18.12)
never peace with Israel. long live Muslim Brotherhood.
8. Thanks Obama !
(06.18.12)
Thanks Obama, you replaced secular Mubarak and installed the Brotherhood ! And liberals & peaceniks will shortly see mushroom clouds over Tel Aviv from Iranian nukes, while Obama still talks of sanctions and "all options are on the table".
9. Never peace with Israel?
Sean ,   USA   (06.18.12)
Sadly ignorant. At least the Bortherhood will allow you to beat your wife more. I would not provoke Israel. After all, last time you did, they took over a land area 3X the size their country and were kind enough to give most of it back to you.
10. To Farook in Cairo
Yaron ,   USA   (06.18.12)
Does the term boom, boom, pow mean anything to you. Don't you poor people ever learn that Israel can ONLY help you and your miserable country. Set aside your hate and savagery for just one minute and imagine a world where we are solving real problems and not starting new ones. Besides, haven't learned your lesson yet from all that hate.....Israel already beat you guys down before and probably not a fight worth picking for Egypt.
11. #8 Try and cheer up
Sarah B   (06.18.12)
What would you have Obama do support Mubarak whilst Mubarak undertook the Tiananmen Square Option?
12. More convenient lies!
Taz Man ,   USA   (06.18.12)
"Egyptians forces, who are working tirelessly to thwart such incidents." give me a break! The Egyptians' are complicit with all these acts. The lies forced-fed the general public, are an insult to anyone with common sense. I sure hope the Israeli government is not that gullible? God bless, Israel and His Jerusalem! A Christian Zionist
13. Good the Egyptian military has just neutered the Muslim Bro
merav ,   Israel   (06.18.12)
While the vote was happening yesterday, the Egyptian military quietly passed a measure stripping the new President of any real power, including the power to declare war. They clearly saw the MB win coming and were aware of the MB orders to Hamas to launch those rockets at us last week.
14. Title is sensationalist - 2 tanks c'mon.
jared ,   toronto, canada   (06.18.12)
2 tanks ... title makes it seem like more.
15. Right Move
Brod ,   USA   (06.18.12)
Israel needs to defend itself against unrelenting attacks by Islamist-Jihadist invaders/terrorists. Left undefended, the fence builders will become sitting ducks for the Islamist-Jihadist attackers. These Pagans-Amalakites, Amorites, Jebusites, Philistines, etc should be neutralized as King David, Israel's Great King, did 3000 years ago.
16. Next year in Sharm el sheik again
NATAN ,   ISRAEL   (06.18.12)
It was to much time for the Arab country to be in agreement with Israel so far we must take our land back our holy Sinai, The drums of war are beating...and welcome back to Egipt the hunger, misery and sikness.. Fill sorry for the inosent people.
17. to No 14 you realy think 2 thank's please..
NATAN ,   ISRAEL   (06.18.12)
18. a better way?
tom ,   toronto, canada   (06.18.12)
the solution is JOINT operations in sinai. that would build trust and minimize the chances for "misunderstandings". it would allow israeli special forces to operate in sinai, and give the egyptian forces backup, both with intelligence gathering, and with air support, as needed. and it would strengthen, rather than weaken, the peace treaty.
19. Farook @ 7
Moragh   (06.18.12)
Your muslim brotherhood is as good as dead. Cheer up Farook, better days for you are acommin!
20. So now we can add the Bedouins to our enemy list.
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (06.18.12)
21. # 3 and # 11 are fraudulent posts.
American Jew   (06.18.12)
Ynet editors: You really need to do a better job at curtailing the juvenile delinquent fraudster who posts under Sarah B's I.D. all day and all night. It's really not that difficult to tag the fraudster's IP address, and censor it once and for all.
22. To: No. 7
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (06.18.12)
Must I remind you that Israel has humiliated Egypt on the battlefield on four occasions? Are you really all that anxious to have it happen again? Maybe this time, instead of just embarrassing Egypt by crossing the Canal and standing poised to march on Cairo, Israel will take the Canal. I can tell you that the shipping world is tired of Egyptian instability and outrageous pilot fees to transit the Canal -- which is why almost no one uses the Canal any longer. Nice income for Israel; safer transit (unlike Egypt, Israel will protect cargo vessels from piracy in the Red Sea) and commercial shipping activity will get a nice economic boost. Please do not ever forget Egypt's role in the world -- you're a fourth-rate country with a sixth-rate economy and a tenth-rate military. Israel can crush you in no time at all. Teach you primitive idiots a lesson you will not soon forget. If it is REALLY war you want, it is war you will get. You'll get steamrolled, but you morons seem to be fated to always learn that the hard way.
23. M-1 Tanks
mikhail ,   DMUSA   (06.18.12)
Don't be surprised if Israel takes out the abrahams tanks. It may be a good tank, but it has several flaws that the egyptians won't be able to overcome in a battle with the Israeli tanks. The M-1 was designed for the european plains.
24. number 21
oysterboy ,   canada   (06.18.12)
so you are against free speech
25. Big Sister
(06.18.12)
You jews forget in your chestbeating, that you had a mighty helping hand from the USA to defeat Egypt. Without your big sister's help, you were toast!!
26. To Sarah B
Sam ,   USA   (06.18.12)
Sarah B thinks the world is hers. Might as well call her God from now on. And just a side note, if Israel could barely get to the Litani river in Lebanon or a couple hundred yards inside Gaza, what makes you think it can just steam roll trough an entire country? Stop bringing up stuff that happens 40,50,60 years ago. Lets talk recent news, and Israel's foolish leaders that you even hate.
27. I hope Egypt Remembers
ed ,   Atlanta, USA   (06.18.12)
I hope they remember the last time they attacked Israel and the rear kicking they got.
28. War is coming
joe ,   u.s.a.   (06.18.12)
i heard on the radio about a month ago, an Israeli who sounded like he knew what he was talking about and he said war between Egypt and Israel is coming soon and its inevitable now and both sides know it. He said Egyptian troops near the border are suddenly wearing body armor and now have better weapons (rifles, etc.) also.
29. @ #11
Jon ,   TEXAS   (06.18.12)
Yes, exactly. It worked just fine for a long time. A principled stand and a strategic stand are often two different things. In this instance, a strategic one wakes more sense. Whatever Mubarak did will be nothing compared to the misery that Egypt will feel if they provoke the Israelis to war. Everyone with a rational mind knows this.
30. ?Spring
Phred ,   Miami, FL, USA   (06.18.12)
It's not spring--it's the dead of a cold, dark (and getting darker) winter of increasing hate. Soon to come: repression and a war most thinking Egtyptians don't want and one the 'un-thinkers' didn't anticipate would be so bloody, so destrcutive.
