Thank you for your usual incisive comments. It is always a pleasure to encounter such well thought out analysis of the situation. I am reminded of the Danish king of England, Canute, 1000 or so years ago, whose courtiers so believed in his divine powers that he was thought to have command over the ocean tides. Canute was wiser, having demonstrated he had no such powers, and concluded you have to deal with the world as it is. There has been a fundamental change in Egypt, with its people gaining a greater voice in political affairs. We may not like the outcome. Yes, Islamism is frightening. So, Israel - a nation full of some of the cleverest people in the world - should deal with the situation wisely and diplomatically. Sure, it can adopt a belligerent stand, expand territory, build further and better walls, move populations....etc. You may want that kind of Israel but it will become like all those nation-states you currently abhor. I suspect that will make you happy. No, I don't know the answer to Israel's situation. I am simply afraid your 'answer' will lead to its destruction.

You guys don't understand the Arab world. The Brotherhood won because the Arab people (correctly) view American aid as a way to buy influence by bribing their leaders. Because they took American money, Sadat, Mubarak, Suleiman (as well as other Arab and Muslim leaders) are viewed as corrupt traitors who work for the Americans. The Brotherhood will tell Americans to keep their money, or give it without any conditions. The Americans have no choice, and will be forced to pay even more money, to an increasingly hostile Egypt for even less influence. Once again, the idiot Obama is checkmated.

The Egyptian military needs the money we give to maintain modern forces needed to rule Egypt. Morsi may not want this largess,although the military needs it to sustain itself, and to control the Islamists. We hang some stiff conditions on our annual $1.3 billion gifts, and being forced to pay is not one of them. You may calll Obama names,but his administration has given more financial assistance to Israel than any other, and has defended the security of Israel before the international community like no other American administration.
