Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.25.12)
Cut off all their benefits ! They have to serve or to leave !
2. Haredi
Robert ,   Romania   (06.25.12)
"No unusual incidents were recorded during the protest but it was followed by the pelting of two female journalists who covered the event. Police were not at the scene at the time." Double standards much? Israel is rapidly becoming a very disgusting place. They will cave in tot he Taliban...err...Haredim yet again.
3. I thought Eta Haredit not citizens.
rebecca ,   Modiin   (06.25.12)
They dont believe in the state of Israel and I thought they had not taken citizenship. If so they should not be called up, or get gov benefits.
4. lazy, ugrateful and disloyal people
martin ,   uk   (06.25.12)
5. An affront to our torah
Jay abouaf ,   Israel   (06.25.12)
" making a profession from the Torah" is a sin Refusing to serve in the army of Israel is a terrible disgrace, Choosing to evade the opportunity to fulfill the greatest mitzva possible Pprotecting the land of Israel And the Jewish people Is shameful, unprecedented and a crime against the torah
6. Can religious Jews go to something like Times Square
Allan ,   PT   (06.25.12)
and come out unscathed?
7. The tuma fighing with the kedusha
Allan ,   PT   (06.25.12)
We see from Ariel Sharon who had the upper hand.
8. #5 "the greatest mitzva possible" thanks for the laugh
Allan ,   PT   (06.25.12)
For your knowledge, serving in a corrupt anti-Torah army is the opposite of a mitzva.
9. To pray at the fence with Gaza
Ovadia ,   Israel   (06.25.12)
If they study nigh and day Torah, they can do it at the frontier. All space is sacred.
10. Non fighting Jews are not an asset to Israel.
Bad Ased Jew ,   United States   (06.25.12)
Who defends them while they quietly study the Torah? Who pays their share of the costs to live in peace in Israel? Everybody but them? Most all of our ancient heroes and sages fought when necessary. Why should they alone be exempted from national service? It divides the people, one class against the other and of course, those doing their service for them are resentful. Makes no sense to me.
11. # 8 Allan
Bad Ased Jew ,   United States   (06.25.12)
if not for those who fought for Israel, died and won, no Torah student would have the opportunity to live , much less protest in Israel. Whatever the IDf's reputation, people like you also have no place in Israel if you wont fight for what land G-d has given you, despite what politics you see against the IDF, they fight, die and get abused by more than your critiques. Get it a rest, please. If not for the army, where would you be, standing guard of your own home, alone? You disgrace the memory of the brave fallen Israeli Jews who died so you might gross and do nothing but slam your own protecters. Don't complain, get involved, make things better, bitching about it does nothing constructive.
12. # 5 Jay YESSSSSSSSS to that!
Bad Ased Jew ,   United States   (06.25.12)
refusing to protect Israel is a sin if your a Jew, the national service applies to everyone, no exceptions in my mind. And, no monetary rewards for those who don't. These angry free loaders hit women and act as though it's fine, it isn't. They shame every Jew who knows that Israel is our G-d given land. He who wont fight wont be able to study the Torah when his enemies come a calling with arms ready to take Jewish lives. Hitting women is not acceptable, avoiding the service that keeps israel free also is not acceptable. No one should be paid for acting like our enemies.
13. Freedom for all.
Damien ,   Tel Aviv   (06.25.12)
What is freedom for all? to do what we believe is right for ourselves! I understand the position according to torah why they can not enlist. BUT!! If they had one massive unit commanded by a ultra orthodox commander or even general then this would be a totally different ball game. The Israeli public gets what they want and the ultra orthodox get what they need in order to enlist. But this general would not be a normal general as he would only answer to defence ministry or the P.M directly. UNLESS THIS HAPPENS YOU CAN FORGET ABOUT THIS NEW TAL LAW.
14. Im struggling to find the exact page in the Torah
Tim ,   Brighton   (06.25.12)
That says You are not allowed to serve your country and leave it to others? Can anyone help?
15. #2 Unlike the secular protests yesterday and day before
Allan ,   PT   (06.25.12)
this was a quiet peaceful and non-violent protest. The pelting of stones is not true. It was only written to discredit the beautiful non-violent protest and to disgrace the haredim in general. It's about time you learn not to believe the ynet lies against haredim. The secular jealousy of haredim are seen daily on this site.
17. Torah Perversion
Steve   (06.25.12)
Unimaginable in any other country There is no justification for the way the Haradim mutated into the abomination we see today. From a small number (400) of students to an industrial size scam foisted on Israel's society by entitled trailor trash wrapping up their crime in the scrolls of the Torah, Ben Gurion would be screaming from his grave that this abuse needs to stop.
18. Those "rags" certainly looked well tailored!
Scott ,   USA   (06.25.12)
I think they were supposed to represent "sackcloth."
19. Really?
Robert ,   Romania   (06.25.12)
I have seen plenty of violent haredi protests, and why would Ynet lie about the pelting anyway? Also, to be fair, the secular protest did do a lot more damage. But, to be even fairer, a secular pays the worth of 20 haredim in taxes so who's money is going to go to pay for damage is another thing to look at...
20. Serve in the IDF or leave the country
Haim ,   TA   (06.25.12)
Why is their blood more precious than ours? What about those who wish to study to be a doctor ? They serve in the IDF and then go on to study and unlike the Harideem they go on to become productive members of society. Its time these free riders ( im being polite) either serve in the IDF or all funding to their yeshivas is cut and stop their social benefits. Look at the hardeem aborod, they work for a living unlike these parasites here.
21. Why???
A religious mother ,   Jerushalaim   (06.25.12)
Why my 18-year old son need to risk his life to protect them against our enemies while they sit save in their yeshivot???
22. 1 Charles, i understand your anger...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (06.25.12)
but giving solutions while angry is not positive. You can t throw them out without them fighting back. This will bring Has Vehalila a civil war.that s exactly what our real enemies are looking for. Thus we need to find a solution that satisfies both parties. Everybody here can give ideas, some of these ideas might be helpful Charles ,even if you totally disagree, please try to understand their problem. Also the Haredi must understand that them avoiding to serve is very frustrating for the secular .The secular must understand the orthodox soldiers needs. Might a separate army be the solution?
23. we remove all protection
su ,   jerusalem   (06.25.12)
by forcing Yeshiva Bochrim to leave yeshiva and enlist, clal Yisrael is really in trouble and will lose special protection from Hashem Elokenu. That is our real merit and protection to stay alive in a sea of deadly hatred within and without-read perek 20 in Tehilim my brothers. on this stance we will remain solidly united.
24. #23 Su do you belive in the tooth fairy and tinkabell ?
Haim ,   TA   (06.25.12)
Sorry dear but that just dosent cut it. It is not fair and not right that the rest of the population has to serve the best years of their lives and risk their lives in order to defend this country. If it wasnt for the brave men and women who serve in the IDF there wouldnt be a country. It is becoming all to clear that the yeshivaot have been making false claims in order to abstract more toax payers money. In addition it seems the ultra orhtdox spend most of their time rioting and are not studying like they claim,. The end of the free ride is coming to an end, either serve or leave the country.
25. Cowards!
Jake Stone ,   USA   (06.25.12)
26. Ora , ONE law , a STATE LAW , for all
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.25.12)
Their problems ? not my business , they can't enjoy the benefits but not giving anything in return . I'm not angry , but enough is enough . Trying to dictate their lifestyle on us has limits . There is only ONE solution : serve or leave . It are the same who protest Shabbat [ violently allan ! ] cars , against Gay parade in Jerusalem [ again violently allan ] who insult police officers .
27. allan , you forget the shabbat violence
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (06.25.12)
you forget the anti gay parade violence , you forget insulting police officers . A short memory . But you also forget last summer massa demonstrations , half a million not charidi people , who were peacefully on the street .
28. Alternatives and Alterntive Service
Brana Lobel ,   Israel   (06.25.12)
The first issue is to understand in depth their objections to IDF service. Then after discussion devise a way that they can participate/contribute. Suggest: 1)for those who are Israeli citizens, alternative (non combat, non fraternizing) service in protected settings. 2)for those not, either #1 or monetary payment. There has to be a way of not limiting this to those with money for payments.
29. @7 & u r...? the big Kahuna Buna!
(06.25.12)
30. #5 "the greatest mitzva possible" not according to Rabbis.
Allan ,   PT   (06.25.12)
According to Rabbi Shmuel Auerbach "opposition to enlistment should be regarded a mitzvah that warrants self sacrifice"
