1. eiland is correct but
marv   (06.27.12)
eiland is correct in changing the ground rules but there is one problem-ehud barak. He cannot take international pressure so he hits empty buildings, wounds a few, kills a few and then congratulates himself on the lesson he taught gazans.
2. Israel needs to take back Gaza permanently.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.27.12)
The author's suggestions would make the already disastrous situation in Gaza far worse. The situation is very simple. Israel's big problems with Gaza are caused by Israel's retreat from Gaza. Virtually all Israel's major problems are caused by retreats. Israel needs to take back Gaza permanently.
3. What To Do With Gaza.....
Robert Blum ,   New Albany, USA   (06.27.12)
The leftists who would readily would acknowledge the Gaza as a de facto state allow one more giant step toward Israel's destruction. G-d gave Sharon his due for the betrayal of destroying the Jewish homes and Jewish world of Gush Katif. He gave Rabin his due for his leftist mentality and betrayal of Israel as well. We'll see what G-d will do to Netanyahu for his having given away Hebron to the murderous, blood thirsting Muslims. Gaza was given for peace. There is no peace because Islam is bent on Israel's destruction. Hamas has it in their charter, just as the Qoran states it for all Muslims to adhere to. The Gaza therefore, should be taken back by Israel, since any and all promises by Muslims to Jews hold no substance of truth, as per their Qoran, which allows Muslims to lie to Jews as long as it advances Islam's cause of land grabbing and Islamizing the world.
4. Not bad for the beginning
Yael Schlichting ,   Qiryat Motzkin   (06.27.12)
BUT Israel must not make the mistake to make any territorial recognitions! We are clear, that there will be an Arab state in Palestine? So let's call it Arab state of Palestine and not Palestine!!!! We cannot make any compromise on little things like this!!!!
5. Eiland forgot something
Nora Tel Aviv   (06.27.12)
The US money -and- wheat aid to Egypt can be replaced. Today`s post-soviets would love to replace the US influence in Egypt. Just ask the democratic on/off/on president Putin about their never changing strategy.
6. Such "advanced" thinking by an influential Israeli makes me
tom ,   tel aviv   (06.27.12)
weep in despair! Where does one begin to explain? Sorry, I can't take it anymore. What are they adding to the drinking water in Israel??!! Can't be chlorine alone.....!
7. #3 ?
N. ,   N.   (06.27.12)
". gave .. his due for "We'll see what . will do to ... These words are way too offensive, ynetnews shouldn't publish it!
8. Who are you, #3 to analyse God's actions and interpenetrate?
Avi   (06.27.12)
Are you the Messiah? A modern prophet? Who are you to be an interpretor to god? So you claim god kills Israeli ministers for not following the wishes of Shas? You are a sick ****. The worst people are those who try to bring god as a backer for their ideologies.
9. What time out?
george ,   ashdod   (06.27.12)
Where does Eiland live? In South America? There have been 18 rocket attacks on southern Israel since the latest so-called "ceasefire"? And Israel does recognize Gaza as a de facto state--running export seminars for it farmers and not occupying one millimeter of its territory. Oh, and the comments about Morsi are laughable in their naivete.
10. # 7
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (06.27.12)
Does his opinion offend you because you are an atheist or just because you don't agree?
11. High Time
Dan ,   Florida - Tel Aviv   (06.27.12)
It is high time that we made this declaration officially to Gaza and informed them that as a state should there be attacks upon Israel from Gaza then upon our internationally recognized rights of self defense, we will go into Gaza and level it. There will be no "proportional response" as that only prolongs war but we shall decimate Gaza. Additionally, fuel, electricity, natural gas, water and food will no longer be provided by Israel as the Gaza government has stated its hostility toward Israel and we have no responsibility to uphold and support a alien regime dedicated to Israel's destruction.
12. @ 3 the silver platter was not served by god
avramele   (06.27.12)
The Jewish state was not established through the intervention of god but through the efforts of zionist pioneers believers and non believers who gave there lives to the cause . Solutions must be man made not divinely decreed. The article btw is well put and worthy of consideration.
13. very sensible article
RAF ,   Vancouver, Canada   (06.27.12)
Unfortunately, there is no perfect solution to this horrible situation. In the circumstances, one must go with the least bad alternative. Giora Eiland's analysis and recommendations make a lot of sense. Israel shouild not attempt to absorb Gaza unless it is willing to give all Gaza's residents full rights as Israeli citizens. That would be a disaster.
14. the 'principal is right, but
tiki ,   belgium   (06.27.12)
*The State is called GAZA-state! *An Independed State means closed borders, no Israeli services, no Israeli work permits, no electricity & water (exept against full payment), *Judea & Samaria is Israeli land & Jewish soil and enemies can't come in without Israeli clearance. Arabs living there can move to the states of Jordan or Gaza. *An Enemy State means that firing ONE bullit into Israel is an act of war, won't be tolerated and should get the full military treatment without hesitation. NO EXCUSE accepted anymore. Let the Arab brothers & European friends take care of them. Who needs this terrorist dump.
15. what it will be ///?
ruru ,   genin   (06.27.12)
the policy to ruru
16. to 10
ruru ,   genin   (06.27.12)
iam offended with 3 postiam not athiest nor agree with this post i believe god hudge the people in a fair way it is after the death and may in life so let it to god but we must do to solve the problem with god orders . god create all the people and judge evry one fore his doing
17. Recognizing gaza as a state
Michael ,   NYC. US   (06.27.12)
My initial reaction was very negative but in thinking about it if you take it to its logical conclusion it has merit. Recognizing gaza as a state (and Hamas as ruler) means that just as in the case of any hostile state if they attack you retaliate WITH ALL NECCESSARY FORCE in other words gloves off. Personally I give them less than a month before Israel destroys them.
18. Just Out Of Curiosty, When Did This Revelation
(06.27.12)
Occur? Why wasn't this thought process adopted Once hamas came to power? I have read in various arties in past few years prior to and after Operation Cast lead That rocket salvo's by Terroists Would Answered In Kind? Should Bibi and Barak Use All Means Necessary to deter arab violence But also They Should have their acts Answered In Kind or even Heavy Handed Response without worrying about World Condemnation? If the U.S. Shot Rockets into Canada or visa versa of coarse this Would Never Happen? So How Can The West Tell Israel How To React or Engage Terroists? They Should But Out Of Israeli Defences by Terroists, or Support Israel By Denouncing ALL TERRORIST GROUPS hamas, hizbullah and The ILLEGAL regime in tehran!
19. Unless of course
John Bull   (06.27.12)
With the possibility of Russia losing any influence in Syria, decides to replace any wheat that the United states decides not to deliver. Which probably means the United States is likely to increase aid rather than decrease in order to maintain influence in Egypt.
20. He's right
John   (06.27.12)
"Israel needs to recognize Gaza Strip as de facto state, even if it’s ruled by the ‘bad guys'" This is a must.
21. Excellent ideas, ecept the one about
Reuven   (06.28.12)
the U.S.providing Egypt with military aid.
22. Gaza Strip part of Palestine Israel, 5.7M Jews, 8.7M Arabs
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (06.28.12)
...in Israel, Gaza, the West Bank, and outside Palestinian refugees from 1948.
23. #22 Steve. Do you make up numbers as a hobby?
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.28.12)
#22 Steve. Do you make up numbers as a hobby? There is no validity whatsoever to your figures.
24. BRAVO CHAIM! @ #2
Israeli 2   (06.28.12)
The problem is that we have no strong leadership and as such it will be only in our remotest dreams. Our "leaders" are slaves of the political dynamics of this world. "We can't do this!" and "We can't do that!"
25. Israel must be free from world dictation!
Israeli 2   (06.28.12)
Giora Eiland: Cast Lead 2 is the best option...but this time we cast steel them permanently.
26. What price would Israel have to pay for military action?
Spyguy ,   seattle USA   (06.28.12)
What all the people advocating military action against Gaza seem to conveniently forget is every action has a COST. None of these people ever seem to add up what those costs might be and what the costs might do to Israel. Obviously Cast Lead was a knee-jerk reaction with no analysis of the probable costs. When all was done, Israel paid a very high price for no change. The next military action against Gaza may have much, much higher costs and much worse results. How many dead Israelis is acceptable, just to beat up on some pretty defenseless people? Is it an acceptable cost if the next military adventure against Gaza turns most Americans against Israel? So all you hot-heads might want to cool down and realistically figure the costs of any actions, but don't be too surprised to discover that just letting Gazans throw a few rockets over the fence is the best and lowest cost option.
27. GAZA IS NOW EYGPT
ZIVRON   (06.28.12)
Gaza was jaffa and jaffa was the arab rejection of jewish right of return which ca never be forgotten. Now gaza is no longer blockaded and ought be allowed to nextend to ismalia,
28. #2: Can't turn the clock back
Igor ,   Germany   (06.28.12)
Chaim, you are right that Israel's retreat from Gaza is causing the current problems. However, retaking and keeping it is not feasible, militarily or politically. Sad, but true.
29. Bravo....
Edu ,   KH - HAIFA   (06.28.12)
that's the point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
30. #28. With proper gutsy leaders, Israel could retake Gaza.
Chaim ,   Israel   (06.28.12)
#28 Igor. As long as Israel is governed by the likes of Bibi; you are correct. Israel will never reverse her disastrous leftist inspired decision to flee Gaza. Israel's major problems stem from two main sources: 1) Following leftist advice. 2) Retreating. However, Igor, all is not lost. Changes are coming. Likud will, hopefully soon, have the strong, patriotic gutsy leadership necessary to retake Gaza and all our abandoned lands.
