1. There it is!
Amichai ,   Huntsville, US   (06.27.12)
I'm surprised it took Syria this long to put the Israel slant on this incident. I'm sure Turkey sees just how disingenuous this is.
2. Wondering if there were any Israeli jets in the area at the
John Bull   (06.27.12)
Reminds me of that Korean Airliner shotdown over Sakhalin the Russinas having mistaken it for an American Spyplane. Should be worrying if that's the route that Israel has chosen to bomb Iran
3. Syria is now at full-fledged war
Ahmed ,   Syria   (06.27.12)
Syria is now at full-fledged war to the finish, no surrender ! This is done Western sponsored mercenaries. Arrogant, US-Zionist war-criminals.
4. Syrians.....
Jenny ,   Brooklyn USA   (06.27.12)
Losers...just losers...trying to "even the score" (imagined), end up shooting themselves in the foot...can't help but pity them....but we dont,
5. Was it a IAF plane...
Leo ,   Canada   (06.27.12)
... Syria wouldn't have been able to down it.
6. Realpolitik
Max Merbaum ,   Los Angeles   (06.27.12)
Within the confines of realpolitik, even through it's offensive, nice save, Assad. Cute little lie.
7. Yup blame israel hahaha
jeff ,   bev hills   (06.27.12)
pathetic but i bet erdogan might demand israel apologize for this, after all if israel wouldnt have a airforce this might of not happened, lets wait for erdogan to open his mouth good news is israel can now fly planes into syria as syria will be scared to shoot anything down
8. in this dispute
anton ,   istanbul   (06.27.12)
unfortunatlye syria is in right mostly they shot down our plane that violated their airspace ,plus the country is in turmoil and they are in a state of paranoia if turkey will attack or west for that matter considering one of their pilot defected with his plane to jordan they probbaly wont even let their own planes to take off to prevent such incidents syria got new defence systems from russia after 2007 when israel violated their airspace rusikies want their interest protected so they are arming syria to theeth i hope none of you belived putin when he spoke with the language of politics :) more importantly if turkey didint go to war for 9 dead citizens certainly she shouldnt do otherwise for a downed plane :)
9. @2 u don't know much about Middle Eastern Geography do you?
(06.27.12)
May I suggest that you take out a large detailed map and get down to some serious remedial geography work! Then come back and share all that you learned.
10. #2 Absolutely pathetic. Laughable!

11. #8 Thanks for the tip. We couldn't care less.

12. Lame excuse - typical anti-Israel response
William ,   Israel   (06.27.12)
Some how I knew Israel would be dragged into an inter-Muslim conflict. Syria's excuse is very lame. How can an advanced anti-aircraft system mistake an F-4 signature for an F-16 signature. There is no secret that Israel has retired its F-4 fleet. I think Turkey knows this and will demand satisfaction.
13. Little doubt Turkish plane was spying on Syria
William ,   Israel   (06.27.12)
Besides flying under the radar, look at the flight path and "interest" in a specific area, which, I bet, is where some sensitive military installations are.
14. #3 - "Arrogant, US-Zionist war-criminals"
William ,   Israel   (06.27.12)
says the pro-regime Syrian who supports the wholesale slaughter of civilians and infrastructure on a daily basis. What's the tally now - over 10,000 civilians killed? I think that qualifies for super massacre and a trip to the Hague on war crimes. Assad better fight to his bitter end, else he and his good looking but evil wife will be locked in a pit for eternity.
15. #8 - a few comments on your posting
William ,   Israel   (06.27.12)
1) Russia did not arm Syria to the teeth at all, and certainly not after Israel's justified attack on their illegal nuke reactor. There is speculation that Russia gave Israel the codes to the previous system to make it "blind" during the attack. Russia may want to protect its interests in the ME but they aren't served by having nuclear Islamists, and they know it. So, as long as Israel focused its attack on the reactor, Moscow was OK with it. 2) Turkey couldn't go to war over its 9 dead citizens who committed terrorist acts while trying to break a legal war-time blockade. - First, NATO already told Ankara that the Israeli boarding of the Mavi Marmara didn't violate any mutual protection agreement. - Second, the UN already made it clear after its investigation that the flotilla was provocative and the Gaza blockade was legal. Turkey couldn't possibly go to war over that damning evidence against them.
16. Really?
Amused ,   US   (06.27.12)
So a full squadron of Israeli planes can invade Syrian airspace, attack their most sensitive nuclear installation, and fly back out over the capital city without a single shot fired, but you picked up an old low flying plane and decided it was Israeli? No matter how illogical, Jew hatred always wins with the Arabs.
17. Easy mistake....
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (06.27.12)
The crescent moon and star could easily be mistaken for the Star of David by a Syrian.
18. Syria thought it was an Israeli plane
HZ ,   USA   (06.27.12)
And, of course, this is why Obama and Hillary and company want us to give the Golan to Syria.....
19. They heard their Iranian brother& thought what a great idea
PETER SM   (06.27.12)
The lie the masses love to hear "It's Israels fault"!
20. Ahmed Anything but look in the mirror. You are a police state
PETER SM   (06.27.12)
dictatorship. People always revolt in the end. Daddy Assad had the same problem and the same police state dictatorship answer. What are you doing writing in the " Zionist×´ media? Why not the free Syrian media? Scared the majority know that you are looking for excuses. The excuse that your brothers use for all their, corruption, lies and thuggery !
21. Of course its Israel's fault!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (06.27.12)
Assad, if you had shot down an Israeli plane you would be at war on two fronts - one Israeli and one at home!
22. Syrians are LIARS...
PO ,   Ramat Gan, IL   (06.27.12)
... Israel has no more F4 on their IAF flightline. And radar operators properly trained are ABLE to recognize if a radar bip is from a specific type of plane. So no bullshits: they KNEW it was nor a F15 or a F16 from IAF but something else. The truth is that Assad did not like the position Erdogan took over the Syrian "normalization", and Erdogan was looking for the incident.
23. The Turks will next say that a dog peed on their homework.
rachel ,   tel aviv israel   (06.27.12)
First of all, the IAF has better intelligence than Turkey does. We are aware of weapons capability that Turkey clearly did not have access to. Perhaps if the Turks had not spent the better part of the last two years bashing us over the Mavi Marmara episode, we would have shared our intel with them. We know not to send planes to do recon work. That is why we invented DRONES. Second, Turkey screwed up and now wants NATO to back their belligerence and incompetence with protection and force? No wonder they never came out winners in any world war. They acted unilaterally so NATO is neither responsible for, nor answerable to them. I guess they shouldn't have arrested all their secular military leaders in the first place. Turkey wins the chutzpah award this week.
24. Comical Ali 2.0
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (06.27.12)
If it were an IAF aircraft, you would have noticed only after the bombs had hit you.
25. Turkey Should Lighten Up
Tariq ,   New York, NY   (06.27.12)
Syria is on a knifes edge and is being troubled by foreign agents helping local militants, so its obvious they are concerned about Israeli involvement which is always real. Turkey needs to chill out as both Muslim nations who were very close till recently are only making their enemies happy. Any confrontation with Syria will help the enemies of Muslims. Syria should apologize and Turkey should accept.
26. How about Sabra And Chatilla
Tariq ,   USA   (06.27.12)
Since you are so concerned about massacres, how about you bring up the Israeli orchestrated Super massacre at Sabra and Chatilla, your morality stops where Israeli crimes are concerned, yes Syrian crimes must be investigated and punished, but do you agree that Israeli crimes must also be investigated and punished?
27. Keep thinking this way and keep on shooting
Jack ,   San Diego, USA   (06.27.12)
28. Has happened will happen?
Johnny ,   Stockholm Sweden   (06.27.12)
"...Ishmael will remain forever a wild beast of a man". Check. That happened as it was foretold. "The oracle concerning Damascus. ...Behold,"
29. Hey, that's cool then, we cool...
Erdogan ,   Turkeyville   (06.27.12)
If that's all it was, no worries buckos..
30. Oopsies! Of course, an Israeli plane would still be flying.
Carl ,   USA   (06.27.12)
