Hannah ,   Wellington   (07.05.12)
Would they make the great mothers of Israel- Sarah, Leah, Rivkah, Rachel and Ruth walk on the other side. Didnt Rabbi Akiva provide his own hands for his mother's feet? These 'so called' 'Shalita' Quacks are driving us away from religion.
32. harassment of women
Bill Poser ,   Prince George, BC, C   (07.05.12)
Undercover police should stake out the area near the sign and when haredim come to put up another one or when they attack a women, should arrest them. They won't be able to harass women from prison.
33. Very sad!
Jew1 ,   Ashdod   (07.05.12)
I am coming from India. There in Hindu religion (goyim), uptil middle of this centuary, the women was not allowed to learn or educate hereself. They ware marrying her to old men at the age of 6 or seven. As these people lived in joint family, they used to send her to live with her husbend and inlaws where she used to work (hard labor like cutting woods, cleaning cloths and filling water from well etc.) for about 17/18 hours a day and in the night what happened to her you can imagine. The widow was not allowed to marry again and disrespected by whole community and must shave her head for whole life and used to wear body covering white cloths (no colors). Many women were burnt alive with their hubsend's (after his death) as their life do not have any value after him and she is his servent and must serve him after life. They did all this on the name of religion. I repat on the name of religion. If you read the history, it all started just like haredim. If we won't deal with this problem now, wihtin a centuary the whole Israel's women will live the same story mentined above. First it started in Jerusalem and it came to Bnei Barak and now Beit Shemesh. Tomorrow they will take over another city and then another and we will loose the whole Israel under their unjust law. Take steps now before it is too late.
34. Beit sheesh
Edouard ,   Montreal Canada   (07.05.12)
Bet shemesh.... No, bet ashame. These religious guys are useless, unproductive, racist, macho and arrogant. Why are they trying to impose on a vast majority of israeli's their wicked understanding of Judaism.? If they like, so much, to be different, they just have to go back to their shtetels and deal with the rapimg of their mother, sisters and daughters, and bow to the desires of the local landlord. Why are they here? What have they brought to this country? What do they contribute...I'm not sure. Prayers? It didn't work much during inquisition, holocaust, and atrocities against our people for hundreds of years. What they are receiving....? ... that, I know! Social security, free healthcare, free education etc, etc. So, if they are not happy here, they are welcome to go wherever they want. The world is big, israel is small.
35. Just a talen for always going backwards.....TATA

36. Exclusion of women
Sagi   (07.05.12)
is only one aspect of the problem, albeit an important one, The whole issue of the haredi ghettos and their political influence and clout and their demands on our society and their insistence on resorting to violence has to be confronted on a national political level and if a solution is not found then civil war will be inevitable. I personally believe that any government does not have the ability or will to solve the problem by legislation and that as a result civil war will ensue.
37. #3 - ??
Devorah   (07.05.12)
You wrote: "do you get insulted when you see a sign by a construction area telling you not to use the side walk. its for your safty! so here it is for them." So, what you're saying here is that these nogoodniks are violent and, because of that, a woman is not safe on "their" street. Does that not bother you? Is it not a symptom of mental and emotional instability in the sense that they are unable to control their sexual ideations and compulsions without resorting to violence? Tell me, what's wrong with this picture? I'll tell you what's wrong with it - if they are that out of control, they belong either in the lockup or in a mental health facility.
38. As a Hareidi woman, i condemn stone throwing...
Riva ,   Betar ilite   (07.05.12)
and other disrespectful behavior against any Jew! it is NOT the Torah way, and these thugs are not to be considered observant! They are frauds! however, there have been cases where unobservant people will intentionally go to a religious neighborhood and be inappropriate in behavior for the sole purpose of provoking! THIS is VERY DISRESPECTFUL as well. Bottom line, if we're reading this, we can begin by trying to respect each other! Especially NOW, we're coming to the 3 weeks where many calamities in history have happened to the Jewish people. The repair for this is AHAVAS CHIMIM-LOVING YOUR FELLOW JEW NO MATTER!! NOW IS THE TIME TO BE BIGGER THAN OURSELVES AND MAKE A EFFORT TO DO THE RIGHT THING EVEN IF THE NEXT PERSON DOESN'T. THEY WILL LEARN FROM YOUR EXAMPLE!
39. 19 and 26, you have it right!
ahavasyisrael ,   israel   (07.05.12)
These people are troublemakers! It does not hurt them in ANY way that it sign is there. There are no penalties for walking on the side of the street. These people are asking nicely that during prayer times that women be kind enough not to walk near the synagogue. For a few HOURS you can't be considerate of someone elses wants.. Beit Shemesh does not belong to these anglo trouble makers... it belongs to ALL the Jews in Beit Shemesh.. chareidim and non chareidim alike. SHAME on this woman..
40. Find it amusing
Sarah B (No not her)   (07.05.12)
that these religious fruitcakes are so unsure whether they can keep their urges in check, they are wanting to talabanise the places where they live. Then turn around and point at Islamic Fundementalism as an evil thing. Yet they do the exact same thing. I bet the next stage will be t ensure females are 'homeschooled' in needlework and cokking and cleaning.
41. Perversion
Cheryl ,   Chicago, IL   (07.05.12)
The Haredim are going through "Repress/Obsess." Which, similar to the case of Catholic priests, turns into a sick perversion. You're trying to stop and shield yourselves from something which is natural and the more you stop, the more you obsess about it. You need psychological help.
42. @12 because these people are not behaving like Torah Jews.
rebecca ,   Modiin   (07.05.12)
Stoning people, spitting at people, calling people bad names, excluding people, these are not things the Torah teaches us to do. Quite the opposite. We are taught to be a light to the nations, not a black mark. There are many people in Beit shemesh who are good, who are Torah Jews, and this bunch of madmen are attacking them.
43. Wild West ,...
split ,   US   (07.05.12)
In civilised countries you need a city permit to put up a sign in public area. Every sign must meet requirements and local codes ,...
44. The iriya's response
Amy ,   off rt 40   (07.06.12)
... just shows how off they are. It is not a complex issue. If every time you remove an illegal sign there are riots, the appropriate response is not to leave the sign. The appropriate response is to arrest the rioters.
45. Haredi violence
davida vakachi ,   Moshav Yishi, Israel   (07.06.12)
I can't believe this behavior is what G-d had in mind from his people. How pathetic that police can only take action against one that is willing to accept the law. Law enforcement is meant for the law breakers!
46. and what about the women who want to go to the shul?
tsfatisha ,   tsfat   (07.11.12)
how do they get there if they aren't allowed to walk on that side of the street? or isn't there an ezra nashim (women's section) in that shul?
47. You're living in cloud cuckoo land Amir
Charlie Frost ,   Toronto Canada   (07.12.12)
You're living in cloud cuckoo land Amir. The charedi community has such enormous problems with drugs, corruption, arrogance, intolerance and abuse. You should read the horrendous and tragic stories on http://www.unpious.com/
