1. Israeli civil discourse
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (07.06.12)
Israeli civil discourse tends to be heated and explosive, rather than nuanced and diplomatic. The IDF does not need every Haredi or every Arab, or every secular/traditional Israeli. We have to provide what the IDF needs without tearing apart one or another sector of society.
2. Integration good for Israel, World, will bring peace
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (07.06.12)
...to the region. The United States went through the same thing, and we, and the World, are better for it.
3. Of course it is justified.
Israeli 2   (07.06.12)
Except for the Neturei Karta who are our enemies cloaking themselves with Haridic attire, Most haridim are the best of Israel.
4. Cruel HIstory
zivron   (07.06.12)
The haredim ought develop military ability and pray for suceess .The secular ought to have more children and the galus rich ought assisst moreThere are thirteen million jews of all types and seven billion plus nonjews but their are many righteous gentiles not religious who believe in a jewish state in defensible borders .Islam ought allow a Jewish State in its midst and will gain..
5. Mofaz and Kadima
John Sombrero ,   USA   (07.06.12)
If Mofaz is asking all or nothing the I question his motives is it really the Draft or is he doing this at the urge of Obama to bring down the goverment. If a few hundred are exempt and the rest are not that is a small price to pay for a compromise. I always beloved in universal draft to get that exempting a very small number is worth it.
6. I love the picture
Yossef   (07.06.12)
He is not a haredi, he is just a beautiful israeli soldier praying. שבת שלום
7. #3, But can he grow a tomato, empty a thrash can?
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.06.12)
Wiggling over old texts or spitting on women passersby doesn't count. Wish people could tell your "most haridim" from Neturei Karta. It would be simple to accomplish: make the "most haridim" grow vegetables or collect thrash, have them do something useful to the society, and people will see the difference right away.
8. The Haredim would need to be separate from others because
(07.07.12)
a rotten apple spoils a barrel of apples. It does not make the other apples better, but worse. Satan want the opportunity to corrupt the Haredim whose personal righteousness is a protection for the nation. If corrupted, they can shoot guns but not expect protection from HaShem. Consider Ariel Sharon who lost 23 childhood friends by the age of 25 from Muslims attacking them. How is it that Ariel Sharon is among the living instead of among the dead of his youthful friends? Personal righteousness is a clue. The Haredim could be a blessing and protection for the other IDF soldiers if they did not try to corrupt them. If the Haredim were respected instead of reviled, there could be a successful integration. But my experience in the US military is that people who love the Lord are reviled and hated and attacked until they are corrupted or raped or murdered (fragging) or perjured to harm them. The evil of Satan toward HaShem's sheep knows no bounds. The enemies are fellow citizens in the military if one is in HaShem's camp.
9. #8, Please write more jokes for Shabbat.
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.07.12)
I just woke up here in California, turned my PC on, admired this gorgeous Saturday morning while tuning in to the Wimbledon finals, and suddenly my eye caught your comment about how "Haredim could be a blessing and protection for the other IDF soldiers if they did not try to corrupt them." I think you've made my day. Why watching serious things like Wimbledon and Tour de France while I can just enjoy your idiot joke on a Shabbat?
10. 9 Michael, California, USA: The context of the post is that
(07.07.12)
the non-Haredim would try to corrupt the Haredim which is what "they" referred to, not the Haredim corrupting the non-Haredim. You have to read the post in context of the entire paragraph, not an exurpted phrase to twist the meaning of. It is fun to you to think of those trying to obey HaShem as being corruptive, but I can assure you it is the lawless, those who do not try to obey the Torah, who are corruptive of others. Righteousness and obedience to Torah is not contagious, but sin is very contagious. That is why the Torah must be written on the heart by the Ruach Hakodesh for a person to want to obey and be able to obey the laws. Lawlessness is so pleasant since Scriptures says stolen waters are sweet. Lawfulness is not sweet. It is a harder, narrower road to climb than lawlessness. Lawlessness is the broad way with crowds of people to comfort one in one's sins. Obeying Torah is a lonely narrow walk with few people to encourage you and to help you. When the wolves attack a sheep, the other sheep scatter instead of helping the sheep who is attacked. So the lonely walk of a sheep in HaShem's camp is devoid even of the comfort of other sheep when wolves attack. So the answer is to have separate IDF and national service units for the lawless and the Torah in the hearts groups.
11. #10, Your messages are perfectly clear, the humor also, Sir.
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.07.12)
You have my solid promise to avoid Satan. I wish it was as easy to avoid Haredim.
12. Charidim , listen !
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.08.12)
Are those Rabbanim "bad" Jews or anti religious ? Are the religious who serve in the IDF not learning Torah ? Those who served in the IDF will probably , many or most of them , also follow "secular" studies to make a living for their family , and contribute to the State . They don't want to live at other's expenses , they want to participate in the defense of their country too .

Charles, please get a job! You have way too much time to miss the point while overthinking the obvious.
