1. Everything should start by kicking out Yishai(Shas) from ...
Keren ,   IL-BR   (07.07.12)
...the Knesset. It is repulsive to defend the indefensable as he is doing. That man is failure! He failed when fire took over Carmel mountains last year;he failed by defending Africans ilegals to enter the country;and he fails by using Torah to defend an INJUST system in Israel. The last is perhaps his gravest sin. The dreams of a 18 years old haredi are not more valuable than the dreams of another Jewish boy who enlists in the the Army, and such privilege granted as of now to Haredi and Arabs MUST END. It is awfull to see happy and tranquil Arab and Haredi boys walking around the cities of Israel while others are making BIG sacrifices. This is filthy and must end! Arabs in the Knesset who act like bandits must be kicked out of the Knesset in the same way these "Jewish"bandits must.Yes,because to suck the state in order to protect a big bunch of lazy cynics IS BANDITISM! And Netanyahu MUST have the courage to implement the right thing lest he exposes himself even more as a dangerous HYPOCRIT!
2. Unity and Vision
Adam Neira ,   Paris, France   (07.07.12)
Unity and vision is required in the State of Israel. The camp must not split into various groups who at best will not talk with each other, and at worst who are at each other's throats. There is a peaceful way forward on this issue. Prayers for the State of Israel.
3. YESHUALAYIN
YESHUALAYIN ,   YESHUALAYIN   (07.07.12)
YESHUALAYIN
4. Transition and building Trust the Haredim
Martin ,   SA   (07.07.12)
the IDF. Accomodating Haredim will require patience goodwill understanding and communication from both sides. It is intimidating to be so aggresive when after so many years the Haredim have accepted a new reality that we too must do service. Let an accomodating structure be set up. Allow Bibi and Yishai to negiatiate and work out a transitional arrangementfor two years or so. Be fair this is more com[plicated than you think. Am Yisroel Chai.
5. Stay home ,Livni!
Keren ,   IL-BR   (07.07.12)
Livni is an opportunist who goes anywhere to be a bit seen and spread a bit more her lack of principles.Actually, she is an empty suit filled by leftists and foreigners enemies' "ideas"which are always very bad for Israel. She might spoil the goodness and worth of this rally with her presence.
6. Ok as a quick count of votes in favor of 100% service
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (07.07.12)
If I recall the count in favor of 100% service: Kadima (28) Yisrael Beiteinu (15) The Jewish Home (3) So if only half of Likud and Labor vote in favor of it it would pass.
7. to no 1
Jennie ,   ISrael/US   (07.07.12)
If Yishai is a failure, who could you name as a successful hand on achiever in the Knesset ? Barak or Mofaz ? Even Bibi have given in to a helpless inaction, at the time when his leadership is needed most.. I believe, that the hate, so many Israelis feel for the orthodox community these days, is deviding the Nation and makes Israel weaker, then ever before...Don't we have enough enemies around our tiny country ? You don't have to be religious or follow all "mitzvot", but you must know some true and living history, Keren...We need all kinds of Jews...Thank G-d for charedi Jews, who keep our Tora and our living history alive..Devided, we, as a Nation don't have a chance to survive and keep Israel the way it was proclaimed, voted for and created by the League of Nations and UN.. Yishai was right not to defend illegal Africans, who crossed into tiny Israel, received all the needed assitance, but had to be deported back to where they belong...This doesn't mean, that he lacks compassion to the poor and needy...How can anybody fail by using Torah to "defend "INJUST" system in Israel" ? Could you explain?
8. 12 000???
Dan   (07.07.12)
Even the police announces 20 000 and the police is ALWAYS low. Is Ynet payed by Bibi?
9. Bunch of b s
Gill ,   Mintreal   (07.07.12)
The religious will never serve tsahal. They serve the creator of the univers. A much bigger task. Let's see tsaghal learn 365 days. They will all surrender after 1 week.
10. Does universal sevice include Arab cititzens? I hope so...
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.07.12)
11. how you can tell Israel is a Jewish state
zionist forever   (07.07.12)
In the bible Jews are probably the biggest bunch of moaners in history, never happy with what they have. In Israel the Jews never seem to be happy unless they are protesting about something. PEACE PROCESS COTTAGE CHEESE SOCIAL JUSTICE ILLEGALS THE TAL LAW I wonder what next weeks protest will be over? Changing the Tal Law will do nothing at all to benefit the country and the army don't need the haredi, if anything they don't want them because they want to cut down on manpower in general to save money the last thing they need is to invest in expanding the haredi units. This whole Tal Law issue was started up by the left for political reasons, try and create a rift between Bibi & the religious parties. Alot of the objections amongst the secular elite is they just hate the haredi and if this was another sector of society other than haredi you wouldn't get even a fraction of the number of protestors.
12. silly
fred ,   usa   (07.07.12)
better to pretend you are reading books and NOT working and getting welfare than to serve the nation that allows yu and your family to live in the land of your people If you love your country, you serve it! anything less makes you a leach
13. America's biggest mistake - getting rid of the draft
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (07.07.12)
America's downward trend can be traced in part to getting rid of the universal draft. American industry and innovation was driven by armed forces veterans. Today, hardly anybody on the board of any corporation did any national service. America is in decline, and nobody is arguing the fact. By getting rid of the draft America removed the universal purpose in being in America, and universal pride in being number one. America is so dumbed down now that it's hard not to imagine them being surpassed by China soon, and up comers like Brazil soon after. Who's to blame? Heck, the Republicans and the Democrats are equally guilty. The Democrats are still striving for the lowest common denominator. The Republicans are still thinking that rich people should get richer and everybody should have guns, and that will solve everything. Israel will only get stronger from the haredim becoming part of klal yisrael, and instead of their example of Torah study paid for by the non-haredim, they can get back on the true Jewish path where we are supposed to indeed study Torah, but make our own parnasa.
14. Jennie
Keren ,   IL-BR   (07.07.12)
I guess,I am not making my point clear. -Of course ilegal immigrants have no place in Israel, but BEFORE such conclusion was reached,Shas defended their stay in Israel(that's what I read),and, after the big mess was created,7 years later, they withdraw their position. That's stupid.A leader should envision the problem before the problem takes such big proportions. -It is injust to defend that a parcel of the population don't go to the army, based in religion.Torah says that only Levites must not fight, and as we don't know exactly (before the comming of Machiach)who are Levites and who are not, it is UNFAIR that some Jews don't go to the army at the expenses of others. As for hate, you are right. Torah is like AIR;Torah is like WATER;Torah is vital to Jews-seculars and not-and as long as these haredim hold Torah to themselves and don't share it generously and with JUSTICE with ALL Jews, hate will prevail. They segregate themselves in their obsessed halachot, most of times using them for not legitimate but economical purposes, what, instead should be sincerity and love for all Jews, what not happens. Result:Torah is wasted and BAD used and peace don't come to anybody That's my point.I hope I made it clear now. As for leaders to be chosen, you are right. It seems to be none, expect, perhaps Feiglin.
15. Vanguards
zivron   (07.07.12)
Twelve thousand is not that much compared to other rallies like after the massacres at sabraa and shatilla in 1982 four hundred thousand jews went. The Haredim Are hopeless warriors at the moment its the religious zionists and the old guard and russians that are the core of israel . Maybe pressure can force them in service and with full respect for their quirky religiosity,The Palmach ought to never have been disbanded and the Atlena was a crime . Ben Gurion made mistakes although great he made mistakes . Doubtful though if any one would be better he was immensely inspirational as was Begin till sharon double crossed him .
16. Hatikvah !
Adam Neira ,   Paris, France   (07.07.12)
The music accompanying this rally is excellent. Just shows that the Israelis can display class and grace under pressure when they want to. Passion for positive change, dynamism and peacefulness can share the same stage. Shalom for all Israelis !
17. Biggest suckers are those following Kadima
meir ,   TA   (07.07.12)
18. IT'S NOT FAIR
C.M.   (07.07.12)
that the protection of the Land of Israel should fall completely on religious Jews who carry the burden of Torah learning as well as all the other mitzvot in the Torah?
19. 70% Tel Avivians are DRAFT DODGERS PARASITES
C.M.   (07.07.12)
are sitting on G-d's land, don't join the army, don't learn Torah and don't heed any of G-d's commandments and have the chutzpah to demand haredim to share the burden. SECULAR G-DLESS CHUTZPAH!
20. Equal burden for the seculars too
Nora Tel Aviv   (07.07.12)
Imagine, just imagine that the army and interior ministry check ups show the real numbers of secular daft dodgers. In Tel Aviv and vicinity the high end income family`s draft dodging abilities reach catastrophic proportions. Let the Left say something about them .
21. Want equal burden for everyone?
PO ,   Ramat Gan, IL   (07.07.12)
cut the aids funding for Haredim. They must WORK, LIVE, PAY TAXES and SERVE in Israel as any other Israeli citizen, and not being parasites of the Israeli society. Yeshivot must be privately funded and only the most talented religious people will attend there a full time job. All the most famous rabbi in Jewish history were WORKERS and not SUCKERS: work during the day, studing Tanach after work hours. They made huge sacrifices to be the light unto the Jewish people, but they were OUTSTANDING people, and not only because they were wearing a Yarmulke in Shabbat!
22. No handouts for freeloaders inc left wing trendies
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (07.07.12)
23. #11, Israel is an Israeli state.
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.07.12)
It is different than New York or what Warsaw was. As a "Zionist forever" who wants a Zionist state, think over "who is a Jew" and I am sure you will come to admit you want an Israeli state.
24. the israelis became like european spoiled childs
(07.07.12)
25. stupid ! Tsahal doesn' t need more soldiers !
(07.07.12)
26. Israel needs a new religious and secular REAL Zionist gov
(07.07.12)
27. One people, one draft
Mordechai ,   Beit Shemesh   (07.07.12)
the Haridim are no fools, they know that their backs are to the wall, if the law is not enacted now it will be some day and they know it! You only have to look at their society the isolationism will be their downfall, they are so afraid that their children will be contaminated by being part of the general society. their biggest mistake is to think they can impose their way of life on all but they don't want to accept that they are a minority will always be so. Firstly before anything send home those here as temporary residents, secondly withdraw the right to hold dual nationality. you will see how quickly places like Ramat Beit Shemesh will become ghost towns
28. #18 Cynical
Keren ,   IL-BR   (07.07.12)
Torah learning is not a burden.Only egoist people ,very egoist people, can make others think that that is a burden ,just to have the pleasure of such studies to themselves. That's UGLY! Torah must be generously shared with all Jews in Israel and the burden(now that's the burden!)of fighting for Israel must be also generously shared, and if it is not shared with generosity it must be shared by FORCE!
29. the politicians are only there for photo ops
zionist forever   (07.07.12)
Livni - as soon as she quit Kadima she started talking about the idea of forming her own party Yair Lapid - he is the king of opportunism and probably hoping this issue will split the coalition force the election he wants so badly. Wouldn't surprise me if he had his sights set on the premiership. Yuval Diskin - he is laying the groundwork for his own entry into politics right now needs to make a name for himself. Gabi Ashkenazi - right now he is in the cool off period but once thats over he intends to get into politics. He even tried to dodge the cool off period and jump straight in. Yoel Hasson - it wouldn't surprise me if he thinks this issue might destroy Mofaz and he is hoping that if he can build up his popularity come next party primaries he will challenge Mofaz for the leadership. Ron Huldai - he is famous for his dislike of the religious and he has been trying to get things like busses on Shabbat, just get rid of religion in Tel Aviv. Tel Aviv itself is not famous for its religious population and there are municipal elections coming up next year and so it wouldn't look good for the mayor not to be coming out to support the haredi hating masses.
30. Tel Aviv 18 year olds
Sarah ,   Modiin   (07.07.12)
...have one of the lowest rates in the country of those serving in combat units. Now that's not equality is it? How about all the millionaires in Israel who collect kitzvat yeladim for their kids? Why? The big $ is going to pay for kitzvat yeladim of the Arab sector, now at 50% of the under 18 year olds, none of whom will ever serve in the Army or sherut leumi in their own communities. Will any of that be mentioned tonight at tonight's rally? Of course not. It's not PC . Watching opportunists like Livni and Lapid trying to 'connect with the people' is like Bernanke and Jamie Dimon showing up to talk about social injustice at an Occupy Wall Street protest.
