all israelis have to be able to defend themselves but do not go looking for trouble. As difficult and provocative arabs are, be reasonable and don't use a knife at a fist fight. Don't behave like russian gangs or arafat.

Is something missing here? How can the judge say the convicted man didn't know it was a racist crime when he and his friends yelled racial slurs while they beat and stabbed this young man to death? Eight years for murdering a random stranger on the street who did nothing to him? I wonder if that's because the victim is only an Arab.

Imagine if this had been a gang of Arab teenagers who had beat up a Jewish teenager while shouting racist anti-semetic insults. And the right can still seriously claim with a straight face that the justice system isn't biased in favor of Jews.

That is ridiculous. Putting aside the whole race / national issue, any person that kills another person deserves a longer jail term. Add to that racist bias, and it should be even longer, possibly even life.

8 years to an underage for murder is to be expected. It's even more expected if it's reached in a plea bargain.

this type of gang or mob violence and hatred is the specialty of the enemy. it is outrageous, unacceptable, and absolutely indefensible for Jewish youths to fall to that level. it is disgusting. it makes one sick. an innocent Arab has as much right as anyone else to walk the streets in safety.

A few months ago, a mob of Arabs attempted lynch two off-duty Israeli soldiers in Haifa, yelling "filthy Jew" while beating them almost death. The judge released them scot free after determining that it could not be proven that the attack was "nationalistically motivated".

If it would have been the reversed situation, an Arab beat up and killed a Jew he'd been free in a year or two in a prisoner exchange with the palestinians. Like all the palestinian murderers and terrorists that was released in exchange for Gilad Shalit.

He is a minor in the eyes of the law, so I think that is why he only received 8 years. If it was the other way around the Arab would have gotten life in prison and then would have been released after a hunger strike, and been welcomed home as a hero....

What does that even mean? How can someone attack a people based on their race, kill one of them, and then claim they were unaware it was a race crime? It makes no sense. The sentence is a joke. 8 years for a racist murder! That is unbelievable.

He was found guilty of manslaughter not 1st degree murder. You as an American should know about that. Your jails are filled to the brim with both types of murderers. Too bad the city the Israeli came from did not hand out candies like they do in Arab cities when they kill Israelis.

an attempted murder committed by a 17 ears old Arab would've resulted in 10+ years sentence. An actual murder committed by an Arab with similar age, would've resulted in 24 years +. For all the released Arabs, their number don't amount to fraction of all injustices committed against Arabs. Just a simple search of crimes committed by Arabs and related sentences will show this fact, so enough of "make sense" stuff. As far as this Jewish teenage killer, he will go free in 6 years.

Yes, 8 years is a joke, and he should be in jail much longer. The idea that he "didn't know" it was a racist attack sounds like something from another planet. And yes, an Arab youth who would kill a Jew in the same way would probably get 80 years or so, not 8. HOWEVER, let's not forget that the Arab youth would be released in a prisoner swap with the PA / Hamas / Hizballah after a few years......... While the Jewish youth will indeed be serving his entire sentence. Maybe the judge kept that in mind. I believe both Arab and Jewish murderers ought to receive equal terms and nobody should be released as part of any swap.

I am not for a moment condoning the sentence -- it was not nearly harsh enough given the depravity of the crime -- but you do realize that, acts of terrorism excepted of course, most Arabs who murder, murder other Arabs, don't you? And while murder is still relatively rare among Israel's Jewish community, those who do murder, murder other Jews. But with respect to this crime -- the sentence was much too light. The aggravating factors were simply too depraved to qualify the crime as manslaughter. The charge should have been murder, which carries a harsher sentence.

Israel's moral confusion and legal corruption fully exposed! If he attacked the guy because he was an Arab, it was about race and he knew it was about race. The only way he could not have known this was about race is if he hadn't been thinking of his victim's race when he attacked, in which case it wasn't a racist crime.

Some are more equal than others. When I read things like this it makes me ashamed to be Jewish. I thought we were supposed to be a light among the nations. I'm afraid we just let in some dark.
