1. Sad and pathetic...the result of incitement by the left
Al   (07.14.12)
I wish the man a full recovery and an extended care in a mental health facility.
2. Livni will talk "drek" about this.
ROSENVALD ,   BRASIL   (07.14.12)
Livni hate Bibi more than love Israel.
3. It will be miraculous if he lives, poor fellow.
Michael ,   California, USA   (07.14.12)
Sorry to see it happening, even if he was mentally feeble. I am sure there will be those who will say he was unstable and depressed "for no reason." But should not have those determined permanent welfare takers shared some of their riches with him? Time someone took a good look where social welfare money is going in Israel, permanently going.
4. Real Question
grodd ,   USA   (07.14.12)
Does the New Israel Fund pay more for setting yourself on fire?
5. Poor man...
Gabriel ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (07.14.12)
Despair strikes people in different ways. Actions like these can only result from a feeling of not having any perspective in life anymore, and that is a tremendous human tragedy. It happened on the Dam square here too, a year or so ago. The person eventually died. Mi sh'berach imoteinu m'kor ha bracha l'avoteinu.
6. He is right you know....
Yosi ,   Israel   (07.14.12)
I too blame Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu and Yuval Steinitz for the constant humiliation the citizens of Israel have to endure on a day-to-day basis. They take from the poor and give to the rich.
7. With "all due respect" to the victim
Eli ,   Jerusalem   (07.14.12)
he is obviously mentally deranged. Israel is not a country without social justice or civil rights. This guy has serious mental problems and chose to commit a public suicide. Even if he thought it was for "the cause" it most likely was mental illness. There is a WORLD of difference between legitimate expressions of social protest and one individual's serious mental and emotional issues. I am sorry for him.
8. A tradgedy on many levels.
Gideon Reader   (07.14.12)
Why was this idiot not under close confinement? His mental impairment was obviously hi-jacked by the "Socialist Justice Movement" which by the way, is not unlike like a bowel movement.. Oh well. Stupid IS as stupid DOES. (doth sayest Ima gump) This singed fool is a living, extra crispy yellow highliter, red pencil underline to that bit of philosophy.
9. the arab revolution infection has come to Israel
shadi - Gaza ,   Gaza   (07.15.12)
instead of building military capabilities that cost billions , give the money to the poor and needy classes in Israel ... the arab youth has revolted because of injustice and negligence .... keep up the protest to bring down Bibi's gov't ... the syrians , tunisians . egyptians and all the arab world support you .. At least , your protest will keep Israel busy with internal issues
10. This has nothing to do with me
Billy Billionaire ,   Ra`anana   (07.15.12)
We have security to keep riff-raff like this away from our lawns.
11. One simple reason
Sarah Battyluber ,   USA / Israel   (07.14.12)
Could be that he's an idiot.
12. Social Protest
av schryber ,   GIVAT ZEEV   (07.15.12)
As a Social Worker at Ohr Le Nefesh I would agree that the life of someone who gets into debt in Israel can be impossible and Im not surprised that that this man felt so helpless and in such a desperate situation ! A shame he didnt come to us for help Bibi and Yuval WAKE UP !! The country is demanding social justice !! Cheaper housing Higher wages Cheaper Public trasport NOW
13. A little odd, considring today's fuel prices
Cornholio   (07.15.12)
14. Brain Damaged and Mentally unbalanced guy
Janet ,   New York, NY   (07.15.12)
Tragic story....tragic that the state could not help him get the mental help he needed along with housing and an opportunity to work/support himself. People fall through the cracks. Watch this get covered in the Western press as another form of "Arab Spring" uprising. Such is not the case. What a pity.
15. I think that in the beggining ,Israel was more ...
Keren ,   IL-BR   (07.15.12)
...solidary with her own. This is tremendously sad.
16. @ number 8
Gabriel ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (07.15.12)
''The idiot'? ''Singed fool''? ''extra crispy yellow highliter''? You savage animal. Never experienced burns, have you? (and that one is with regards to your last statement). You can not know what drove him to do what he did, and even if you do, you are unkindly requested to refrain from subjecting decent people to your appalling obscenities online. Obscenities, because you make these statements at the expense of a critically injured person who you yourself suspect to be mentally impaired (YOUR words, sir).
17. It is true, the rich are getting richer...
Haifa-ee   (07.15.12)
And it seems they turn a blind eye to the poorer classes here. In the tanach, the wealthy had the resposibility to be generous and help the less fortunate. Not so today. Greed and a sense of entitlement reigns.
18. #17 Since when do people have to beme parents ....
Iranian Hunter   (07.15.12)
of poor people ? Buddy, I don't like poverty on people, and I help them as I can. But since when does the middle class and rich are GUILTY for simply working, learning, EARNING what their hands do ? This leftist propaganda that "we should have robin hood tax" is absolute junk. Even in the times of King Solomon and King David, there are still poor people, THE definition of poor itself is relative to the situation. Most poor americans are middle class compared to other countries standard
19. National Insurance
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.15.12)
Has death panels to filter out the weakest and most needy. Those who enter sick exit healthy, those who enter bent exit upright, who enter blind are told they can see, terror victims exit peace victims. Only those with great resources and time (i.e. those least in need) can yeild court rulings forcing the organization to contribute as required by law. Maybe at the end of this one or two cases will be highlighted and given special consideration, but the pattern will continue for the rest of us.

Helene ,   Tel Aviv   (07.15.12)
How dare you say the man was mentally deranged?? Do you know him, do you know what despair he is going through? Yes, this country drives people crazy. I hardly know one normal person here - everybody on Xanax, cipramil, valium and name it. You are certainly not having the life he has. People like you are able to express their social protest in a reasonable maner, but some other people who are going through humiliation, are jobless, are sick, are lonely YES YES they become completely crazy and do things that a healthy mind would not think of. So . So please we dont need your "all due respect" - keep it for yurself
21. #8 your are a heartless IDIOT
Helene ,   Tel Aviv   (07.15.12)
22. It's sad he chose to go to such measures
Me   (07.15.12)
But he is right. The Israeli people demand social justice. I hope his act would wake the government up rather than giving it another reason to call the protesters, whom last year reached a number greater than 400K, "anarchists".
23. as if it's not already hot enough in tel aviv..gees
me   (07.15.12)
24. People in Israel are getting very stupid
Keren ,   IL-BR   (07.15.12)
They have become attached to stupid materiality for the sake of materiality and are getting evil people. We have been talking about haredim lately. What have them been doing with Torah? What have those religious parties in the Knesset have been doing with Torah? Where is Torah in Israel? Where is their job being accomplished after so much study? How can Hashem protect Israel if nothing, but nothing,of what He says has been done ,specialy by those who hold Torah and are obliged to share it with all. I blame them for no sharing G-d´s ways with all Israel and for using G-d´s name erroneously and egoisticaly, in the same way I blame Bibi and his economical only mentality. No solidarity. No love. Sad.
25. Regarding your kind comments,...
Gideon Reader   (07.15.12)
...I give them the weight they call for. I do not know and do not care what drove this showpiece victim of the "Leef Movement". He was coopted by those who specialize in the creation of victims for the specific purpose of being a celebe to gain attention for a political agenda. If you do not with to be "subjected" to my opinion, I suggest that you blink and move on passing on those comments. And,...have a lovely day.

I do so try madame. But I have some winning ways.
27. Much like everything in Israel this too will become a

political event. What we have here is clearly a very disturbed person who found his 15 sec of fame. Leef the paid shit disturber will try to make political hay out of this mess. The man wll hopefully survive to undergo many many operations to repair his physical damage. So what is the result? A wounded man and a political POS ala Leef wanting to make political hay. The people of Israel are always being screwed blued and tatooed. Eitrher you learn to take political control of your country by real democratic means (IE district representation) or you will always be screwed. The political system in Israel invites crooks creeps and 2nd rate social activists shit disturbers aka Leef.. The best and the brightest do not participate in the political process and it clearly shows.

THANK YOU for your comments. I was planning on writing something similar until I saw yours. I would just add that It takes a special coldness of heart to be so lacking in mercy towards someone who did something so suicidal. Thanks for what you wrote.

Cheaper housing, higher wages, cheaper public transport. Care to tell me HOW it can be done or how it will be PAID for? The government does not set housing prices the free market does so how are you going to bring house prices down ? Individual employers decide what they are going to pay their employees not the government. When an individual accepts a job they have entered into a contract and agreed with the employer they will do the job for a certain wage. It might not be as high as the individual would like but they knew what they were going to do and for how much when they took the job. There is already a minimum wage and employers are not obliged to pay above that. Public transport again the bus services are owned by private companies not the government. Lets say the government was able to do all these things where does the money come from to pay for it all? All the ministries have already had their budgets cut and EVERYBODY is entitled to their share of the pie so you can't say take money away from one sector and give it to somebody else just because you think its a better cause. We could of course borrow the money but whats going on in Europe should show what can happen when you borrow to much. You raise force employers to pay their people to much then they will lay people off. Raise taxes to much and your going to drive up inflation and nobody benefits from high inflation. At the end of the day its not about social justice its about how its going to be paid for, we certainly can't go back to the old days of socialism as Leef would have us do unless we want to destroy the economy. Its is very unfortunate but wherever you go in the world there is going to be rich and poor and no matter how hard you try your never going to change that. This guy was very poor that is obvious and he was mentally unbalanced but there is very little if anything that could be done for a man in his situation because no matter what Leef thinks we will never be able to solve everybodies economic problems.
