like "you and me"! he maybe like YOU, but sure not like ME! just because an other 1000 crazys joined the zombei left, it still isn't the solution to the problem. and you all "activists", if you stop freeloading and start to earn your keep, things will get better much faster!
2. Silman should be tried for attempted murder
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (07.15.12)
3. my friend from Canada u should stand down....
Jew ,   JewLandia   (07.15.12)
you are as far out of line as the distance between Israel and Canada.
4. both the protesters & the government
(07.15.12)
must be held accountable for this man's actions. Everyone needs to settle down a bit.

michael Pielet ,   israel   (07.15.12)

7. # 1
Birdi ,   Israel   (07.15.12)
Your talkback proves you dont have a remote idea of the real situation here. Best to be silent.
8. Correction to my first comment
Reuven Brauner ,   Raanana, Israel   (07.15.12)
which came out too harsh on the poor guy. A Refuah Sheliemoh, he should get help, and we should be compassionate with his predicament. Still, there is no reason to set yourself on fire.
9. 2000people
jerry ,   shomron   (07.15.12)
This guy is,an idiot So what if 2000 ppl caused havoc and mayhem on the streets of tlv in support of him. Millions stayed away. This act of stupidity will.not gain any support. Let all these leftist activists emulate him and all burn. there is a simple solution fot the high cost of housing. Come to the shomron. Cheap housing, open spaces and a high standart of living. But no. These leftists want to live cheaply in the centre of the country. Well it aint ganna happen.so get used to the idea.
10. Normal people drink or party or meet up for hook ups
Al   (07.16.12)
when thry feel down. This guy is obviously a very sick dude. Thankfully most people including the bitchy whiny piss in their beer demostrators dont try to kill themselves. Of course they is always tomorrow. Lets stay tuned for the next wack job who wants to make a statement.
11. So Les says from Canada...
Woody ,   Tel Aviv, ISRAEL   (07.16.12)
"if you stop freeloading and start to earn your keep, things will get better much faster!" Who is the crazy here? A guy in Canada who heaps disconnected criticism about a very serious affair in our society from a rich Western country or the man who spent a year of documented struggle against Israeli bureaucracy to continue "earning his keep" only to be made homeless by flawed policy. Frankly, we don't care what you think. In your head this is about stereotypes and caricatures. The activists and Left here took a page out of Zionist history, which you also seem ignorant of, and are making a movement to change the place we live in. If that is "crazy" and "zombie", then I'm not sure what the parameters or your daily life are.
12. @9 when right wing extremists (not you)
Jew with Cojones ,   Israel   (07.16.12)
break the law and stand against the rule of law of the State of Israel... may I use your comment? Because you are aware of the fact that well the extreme right wing does similar things. just sayin'
13. It's very simple, really.
Yael ,   Hod haSharon   (07.16.12)
If I can't find a place to live at a reasonable price here in Israel, I will go somewhere I can. It's very simple, really.
14. To have no hope is tragic!
Fran ,   USA   (07.16.12)
I have hope because of the following: Isaiah 9:5-6; 11:1; 53; 59:20 Zechariah 9:9; 12:10 Malachi: 3:3; 5:1 Daniel 9:25 And of course the lyrics of Ma Navu are from Isaiah 52:7. We have hope because of G-d's promises to His people.
15. big crowds
Jon ,   Baltimore   (07.16.12)
This tragedy says more about group psychology than social action. Israeli youth copying Tunisian protesters.. in any crowd people egg each other on to make the cause seem more urgent. But since Israel is a relatively well-off democracy that does as well as any other democracy at tackling poverty, the crowds, while well-meaning cause more harm than good.
16. This guy is not completaly normal no matter what
Ari ,   Jerusalem   (07.16.12)
the protesters say. He acted as a crazy person. The movement was diying so this put them again on the News. Silman should be cured and then put in trial for atemting murder and incitement. ISRAEL IS NOT TUNISIA. Protesters want free housing. Why?. Most of them want housing in TA. Jerusalem etc go to the Negev or the Galil and yu'll find afordable housing A bunch of loosers want to live in Rotschild Bulevard in TA or Rehavia in Jerusalem. Go to Carmiel, to Kiriat Gat, to Dimona there youll find afordable housing Go to BeerSheve.. All they want is a nice summer with tents in Rotschild Boulevard.
17. Al @ 10
Moragh   (07.16.12)
Cold blooded bastard..... get a grip of yourself, and that goes also for your ignorant ilk as well. The only reason you're out on the street is for the Hell of it and nothing else. You deserve at least to be put away for the next ten years. This message refers also to the likes of your ilk!
18. Kol Ha Kavod Fran #14
DavidR ,   USA   (07.16.12)
Much better than setting yourself on fire as sillyman did. Much prayer needed.
19. Crazy he certainly is
Sharona ,   Jerusalem Israel   (07.16.12)
2000 demonstrators? Out of a population of hundreds of thousands? This isn't even newsworthy.
20. #13 yael
Sharona ,   Jerusalem Israel   (07.16.12)
And when the anti-Semites start making your life miserable in France or wherever you think you can go you will come running back here real quick. Check out the unemployment in the US and rush right over there why don't you?
21. Social justice activists
Spencer ,   Israel   (07.16.12)
Protest by all means....and freedom of speech, yes. But, when the activists/protesters block traffic and damage property, that overstepping the mark and the protesters should be arrested and punished to the full extent of the law. The "Social justice activists" , by their actions, show that they care little about the rights of decent people and have one object in mind....to bring down the government.
22. What a bunch of heartless schmocks!
Alf Red ,   Londonistan   (07.16.12)
I've read all the talkbacks for this article and a few others about the situation with demonstrations, self-immolation of this poor guy, and what do I see? Raanana dwellers do not want to know about people living in "communal" dog-houses in cheap areas; the big-salaried guys are giving from above free fat advices about "you should work more" to people, who tear their backs on 2 or even 3 shitty lowly paid jobs just to keep some roof over head and not to go hungry. Shame on you! You deserve to end up in Banana Republic Ramat-Aviv, surrounded by barb wire to keep out crowds of favela-dwellers who have nothing to loose, apart of chains of mashkanta and overdrafts. Is THAT what you want Israel to become? As it is, the country shows already HUGE disparity between haves and have-nots, and this will grow and grow until it all bursts at seams. And then what? Will Govt put the Army against people? Think before you gloat here, schmocks!
23. Please Go!
Eli ,   Jerusalem   (07.16.12)
I am tired of all the lefties, the whiners, the criers and the complainers. We really don't need you. There are enough productive people here to offset your attitude. Life ain't easy but we make the best of it. I don't feel sorry for you or any of the suicidal whack jobs. Deal with life and stop crying.
24. Oh...but he is
Chaya ,   Bat Yam   (07.16.12)
He has a history of psychological problems and tried to commit suicide before. He has made very bad economic decisions throughout his life and he is the LAST person they should use as their 'poster boy.'
25. With compassion, I say suicide is wrong
David N. ,   Haifa, ISRAEL   (07.16.12)
If part of the so-called left thinks that there is a connection between working for social justice and committing suicide in a dramatic public way, then it is THEY who are out of touch. I don't like the rich getting richer, and I believe a person should be able to rent a decent flat for a legal, fulltime wage. I think the power of big contractors and big business should be broken. Suicide, however, prevents a man from being any damn good to anyone. I have compassion for him and his family, but profound disagreement that he was a good example, especially for vulnerable younger people who go through a period of "urgent beliefs" and are open to dramatic actions. To kill oneself for high cottage cheese prices, or high tuition, or high rent, or taxes, sorry: Pure Folly. Those who care live and labour and hope. We're still better off than most of the world, and hardly ready for Metzada and national suicide again.
26. There, but for fortune, go you or I.
Phil Ochs ,   Columbus, Ohio   (07.16.12)
27. To the hard-hearted talkbackers: If he is crazy or sick,...
SF Stoner ,   Carmiel, Israel   (07.16.12)
then why didn't he get the assisstance he deserves from National Insurance. You ignorant idiots don't know how many mistakes they make at Bituach Leumi, and how hard it is to correct them when no clerk wants to hear about it. Another thing, if prices of housing are low in the territories, that's because the rest of the country subsidizes living there. And last of all, what the hell do you who live outside of Israel know about any of this??
28. The Protesters are WRONG..this is not about Right or Left
Netanya ,   Netanya   (07.16.12)
wing politics. They are either not aware or don't know anything about the economic situation prior to Netanyhu. Was it better with Olmert? I remember it well and my financial situation and rent situation was the same. I had a good paying job and still the rent was outrageous, and every year it was increased. Under Barak it was the worst. Rent was paid based on the dollar rate, since the dollar was strong, so every month I would pay a greater percentage of my salary to rent. I remember it well, since when my company gave me a raise based on the index (3%) I replied that I soon would have to live in the park to be able to continue working there. The shekel that year went from 4.1 to 5....so my rent was $400 (meaning at the beginning of the rent period I paid 1,640 NIS vs 2,000 NIS/month at the end of the year. Meaning at the end of the year, I had paid about an extra 3 months rent approx (from the agreed on rent upon moving in to the tiny apartment in Bat Galim, Haifa) THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE LEFT OR THE RIGHT, IT IS A PROBLEM AND HAS BEEN; WITH THE LEFT IT WAS ACTUALLY WORSE! I can only guess these kids are too young or stupid to know, but this is the fact. While they try to make it political, it isn't, and that is part of the problem of us, the people, getting what we actually really do need.
29. #22 BRAVO ,WELL SAID SIR
DA RAP ARTIST ,   SAFED OPERA HOUSE   (07.16.12)
There are too many heartless schmucks with their callous and unsympathetic and unhelpful ,and indeed judgemental and facile comments. These folk clearly reside in ivory towers remote from reality ,so better for them to just ZIP IT
30. #10 AND YOU THINK YOU'RE NORMAL?
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED OPERA HOUSE   (07.16.12)
Al ,the armchair zionist and armchair prime minister ,who could not even hack it here in Israel ,but who dares to lecture those who live here and struggle here daily. Al ,you have zero idea ,zero ,zilch ,nada ,klum ,of just how many millions of good folk struggle to survive here .So I suggest you reign in your humungous ego and humble yourself and try to nurture a tiny modicul of empathy for your fellow jews here in Eretz Israel .
