1. No Oil, no one needs to care
kuhl blitz ,   Doha / chennai   (07.17.12)
Libya had oil and so did Iraq - And in such countries, if the local people are being massacred, it is a BIG HUMAN RIGHT issue. Everyone (meaning America) shall interfere to safeguard the rights of people and depose the dictator. But, unfortunately syria has no oil, gold or uranium. And it only threatens Israel, so no big deal (hypocrites). As long as Syria doesn't pose problems to any oil field, there is nothing to worry about
2. "Nobody's life is more important"
agokoy ,   cebu   (07.17.12)
Assad is ripping a page off Saddam's book killing his own people just to extend his puny life of terror and hoping for a different outcome.
3. Why, the heck, am I not surprised?
Yael Schlichting ,   Or Akiva   (07.17.12)
And a voice spoke to me out of the dark: "Smile!", it said, "it could come worse!". And I smiled! And it came worse! It will come worse and Israel must be prepared!
4. So, where is Amnesty International and HRW?
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (07.17.12)
The Jew hating "Rights" organizations headed by the Antisemitic UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay of South Africa, are far too busy bashing Israel and appeasing the Russians and Chinese, whose human rights records stink, than to openly condemn the barbarism of the Syrian Regime! If ever there was proof that the UN and all its corrupt subsidiaries is a total waste of time, Syria is it. Due to Russian Chinese vetoes the UN is completely impotent due to a political vasectomy! Of course, it would totally hypocritical of Russia and China to condemn Assad's crimes when they are just culpable of human rights violations on a huge scale in Tibet, Chechnya and against their own people who oppose the Russian and Chinese regimes.
5. #4 Yes David - Exactly Right!
Where are they now? ,   Deafening Silence   (07.17.12)
6. I wonder...
PaulZion ,   Israel   (07.17.12)
Is the world going to wait until we see gory pictures of hundreds of dead from nerve gas, strewn on the ground, before it decides to act? And when the containers they find prove that these WMD were transported to Syria from Iraq, will they apologise to the people whose careers were ruined by unjustified criticism?
7. i dont know why
jay ,   nazareth illit   (07.17.12)
i dont know why anyone wants assad to leave if he falls israel will be totally surrounded by islamic jihadists look at egypt and learn !!! id prefer to have to deal with assad and have back lines open between syria and israel than to deal with jihadists whos only purpose in life is to destroy this state. True that assad isnt clean and deals with hezballah and iran but now we will have to deal with all of them plus religious nuts
8. The Butcher Of Syria Will Murder Without
(07.17.12)
Impunity! Seems that saddams WMD were hidden by Ba'ath member with common borders, now the ILLEGAL regime in tehran ARE CALLING THE SHOTS? Would anyone put this past The WORLDS Largest Sponser Of TERRORISM?
9. No doubt they'll blame the Jews
steve from raleigh   (07.17.12)
The EU, UN, Hillary Clinton, the New York Times included. I say who cares and good luck with all of that.
10. a scare story to bring about western intervention
zionist forever   (07.17.12)
Whilst there is a real chance Assad will use his WMDS at this point I doubt he is planning to. Right now the opposition want NATO military intervention but its not being offered so start feeding them WMD scare stories to get things moving. The one thing we can be sure of and thats if Assad uses chemical weapons out of fear of being next on the list Israel will be dropping bombs on Damascus and there will be hundreds of tanks rolling across the border into Syria.
11. #1 Oh do shut up...
Kim ,   Israel   (07.17.12)
...you post the same remark every time a story about Syria is on Ynet. If you're so eager to intervene in Syria, then go ahead. Take your family with you as you charge the front line of Assad's forces. Everyone else seems to understand that outside intervention is the worse thing that can happen in Syria (especially for those fighting Assad.) I suppose you think your remark about "oil and uranium" is pretty clever. Actually, it marks you out as a simpleton.
12. Assad will use chemical weapons
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (07.17.12)
Not even Bashar Assad is that stupid to use WMDs against Israel.
13. Where are the Arab demonstrators around the world?
Abu Yusuf ,   ME   (07.17.12)
Arabs should demonstarte and wake up against these killings, where are they?
14. # 11
Birdi ,   Israel   (07.17.12)
# 1 a simpleton? I think not. If there would be oil in Syria, the western powers would have already intervened.
15. #1 not only oil
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (07.17.12)
This is about Empire building, not just oil. Gaddaffi and Assad have been the same for years, and weren't more cruel than any other American ally, be it Turkey or Saudi Arabia. These leaders did not do something that triggered the sudden decision for American armed intervention to eliminate them. Obama knows that replacing them will cause more misery than they ever did, and the new leaders will be far worse. What happened is that Obama decided that he does not want having stable, centrally-rule developing states in the Arab world. He wants poverty, anarchy, violence and tribalism.
16. Ok, before the usual stuff, like no. 4
jj   (07.17.12)
just do a quick google. HRW, Amnesty, the UNHCR etc. have all been active in condemnation of this and have done extensive reports on the situation and plan to bring plenty more out in the future. here are the names of the last few reports brought out by HRW for example: Torture Archipelago Arbitrary Arrests, Torture, and Enforced Disappearances in Syria’s Underground Prisons since March 2011 “They Burned My Heart” War Crimes in Northern Idlib during Peace Plan Negotiations In Cold Blood you could just take a look to see through a simple google search, rather than raise the usual "OH NOBODY CARES UNLESS ITS ISRAEL" cries. Taht is patently untrue, disingenuous and downright ignorant. However, it's willful ignorance as its nicer to just imagine that youre being picked on rather than that you might be doing something wrong, right? when the inevitable question about the ICC comes - Syria can only be investigated by the ICC if it is referred to it by the UNSC because, just like Israel, it is not a signatory to the Rome Statute which establishes the court.
17. The prophet Isaiah foretold ...
J Galt ,   Hidden Valley USA   (07.17.12)
behold Damascus shall be taken away from beigh a city and it shall be a ruinous heap. Amen.
18. Hey #1!
Scott ,   Tallahassee   (07.17.12)
You are so right, Syria has no oil! So please tell me why on earth we should donate our blood and treasure to such people if there is nothing the West will gain. Human Rights is not worth our lives. If the Syrian people want to prove to the world their worth, now is their opportunity to do so.
19. #15: Eh, say what?
Kim ,   Israel   (07.17.12)
I'll assume English isn't your first language (the other possibility is you're an idiot OR, perhaps, you're so obsessed with Obama you're incapable of making a consistent point.) Of course the possibility exists that English isn't your first language AND you're an idiot who is obsessed with Obama. Btw, if you want an American ally that regularly acts cruel, there's no reason to look at Turkey or Saudi Arabia. Just take a look at our nation (an occupier of millions with a sizeable majority who dream about ethnically cleansing the Palestinians.) I'm guessing you'll now tell me that we have reasons for our cruelty, while other nations just do it because they're evil. Or Arab. Or some other hyper-nationalist, bigoted BS.
20. #14: Here's the truth about 'birdi'
Kim ,   Israel   (07.17.12)
She's was absolutely thrilled that the US and its allies attacked Iraq and Lybia. During these wars, she was glued to the TV and acted like a cheerleader every time an Arab was killed. Now she's throwing a hissy fit that the US and the West aren't attacking Syria. There's nothing that pleases her more than seeing others take on Israel's enemies. As no Western nation seems inclined to get involved in Syria, she's now acting like a spoiled child. Sorry, spoiled child, but if Israel wants to take on Syria, it will have to do its own dirty work this time.
21. If Assad uses Chemical Weapons against Israel
k ,   US   (07.17.12)
then his family including his wife are responsible If he decides that in some "suicide" mission he will launch an attack against Israel then his family will be responsible
22. Assad
Jay ,   USA   (07.17.12)
Truthfuly, I don't care what happens in Syria. It's not oil related. It's not human rights related. I just don't give a damn. How does that suit ya?
23. syria
spookey ,   birmingham uk   (07.17.12)
never ceases to amaze how these dictators cling on to power at any price , shows the good life they lead at the peoples expence and you king of jordan are not immune
24. Israel Needs a Constitution
Noah Lev ,   Los'AngelesUSA   (07.17.12)
Meanwhile back in Libya, hundreds if not thouands are dying ( many blacks) at the hands of the rebels, thanks to the NATO intervention. Why the Arab League remains dormant I dont know? It is their backyard. Same in Syria, they could have used their 21 nation weaponry..far exceeding Syrian. But with Russia/China/Iran on Syrias side...theyconsidered the odds I suppose,. Only little Israel is always a pending target, with all applauding. The US and Israel's nukes are keeping them at bay, that's why attacks (internal) against US at every opportune time and Israel being demonized, for the Final JIhad. Frankly, Assad may be better for Israel, vs the Sunnis who are not Israel's best advocates. No one knows as with the Muslim Brotherhood's future policies. Hillary was called "Monica" and had shoes thrown at her (and tomatoes) by the Egyptian mob. With Kadima out now (bye bye Mofaz) theTal Laws expiration destroying the country with civil strife (rabbis threatned to bring it down), Bibi loses his huge majority. Israel's problems go deeper than Bibis middle right wing views...its about Israel's insecurity and despair at internal and external problems..even with a GDP of over 200b year, 1st world status, a robust capitalistic economy vs socialism, low unemployment, a good safety net, and the best army man for man in the world. Israel's mistake: treating its insurgents like pampered Jews, from the get go., a mistake we all saw years ago. As a friend (NYC)told me, "my relatives all live and receive charity in Israel, where they would not have to work". Shame, shame and schonda. We saw it coming, I could have told you. Israel needs: a constitution defining the state, separating religion and govt, a change in the automatic rights afforded Diaspora Jewry, capital punishment for all murderers, diverting the Charedi funds to aid people seeking apts or homes ( like a sction 8), and a clear policy with time frames to resolve the Pales conflict, accepted by it's neighbors including Iran. Otherwise, no deal. Its that simple.
25. Charity For Some and Poverty For the Rest
Noah Lev ,   LosAngelesUSA   (07.17.12)
Obama is a left wing socialist who plays it pragmatic. Notice everything he does or does not do, is based on the wind blowing. He is not an ideologue at all, has no principles..its what (he perceived) is good for his re-elction at th time and good for his party But he will make exceptions. He boasts aid to Israel, mostly defensive weapons...and shows the flag in the Gulf w/o any committments. He, through Hillary, promises to destory Iran's nukes..if anyone can believe him? He is watching Syria..will act when Assad falls most likely. He is clever with his advisers. I disagree withmany that he sold out Israel over the 67 border issue.....even though Abbas says no land swaps. But who is listening to abbas anyway? Hamas is gaining strength in the W. Bank. and Fatah refuses Egyptian control over Gaza.. must more confusion and waffling. While the Arabs are jockeying, Israel's govt is falling apart over Charedi clout at avoiding any service for their country..paid for with high rentals and home prices but not to the protestors.

No need to resort to mud slinging & putting words in my mouth. Simply go take your meds & crawl back under your rock.

jj   (07.18.12)
sooo.... no mudslinging, but "take your meds and crawl back under your rock"?... nicely done. I'm taking from your response that you had nothing to come back to #20 with?
28. # 27
Birdi ,   Israel   (07.18.12)
I wont lower myself by rising to her bait & stupidity. Though I will say, nowhere in my post did I say Israel should take on Syria.

Your foul mouth will get you into deep trouble 1 day.
30. Never a dull week in the ME

Syrian poison gas? Does have a trippy ring to it. Much better & dire than Eritrean infiltrators, and the Persian nuke bit was getting rather played out.
