The difference in those three years ( actually 4, because kadima said 22), is colossal in terms of period of service and remuneration.
Here, let me help you: Up until the age of 22, you do 3 years service. from 22-26, you do a year and a half. From 26, it is something like 4 months. This I know, because I was an oleh hadash, 30 years ago ( unless things have changed). That is point one.
Point two: Married soldiers doing their compulsory service do not get the measly 300 NIS like my son will be getting in two weeks' time, they receive a minimum of 4000 NIS plus additional money per child. Now, to enlighten you just a little bit more: If haredim marry at the age of 20 on average, how many children will they have at age 22? Maybe 2. If they go into the army at age 26, how many will they probably have? 5 sounds about right, maybe 4. And who pays them meanwhile? The army via our tax dollars.
So, you see, the difference is in tens of millions of shekels.
Now do you get the "big deal"?
I have zero respect for Mofaz, but I have even less for Bibi, who has proven time and again that he values his political skin more than the real needs of the country. He has sold his soul for power, just like Faust, except instead of to the devil, to the Haredi parties.
