jack bauer ,   mark my words   (07.21.12)
1 they use suicide bombers. 2 the war is between armed fighters and the govt. 3 when they took the border posts on the Iraqi border they took the officer and cut off his legs and arms. Then they executed 22 soldiers who had surrendered. - these are the rebels you support? you are mad. -- while both sides are evil one side we know and the other we dont. --- syria will become a terrorist safehaven like youve never seen before. the non sunnis will be ethnically cleansed and the world will be worse off

7. assad will survive
milson   (07.21.12)
marwan assad and the other leaders of assad's clique will survive since as a minority alawite they are fighting for their lives and they know it. Many israeli leaders are wrong on the syrian opposition which is actually worse than assad.

I agree we don't know they first thing what a post Assad Syria will look like. Another Islamic regime as has happened in just about every other country where the dictators have been toppled and if it is will they be radical? The region would probably have been much safer if Assad had stayed and when this is all over the Syrian's themselves might come to regret all this. Civil war got a whole country up for grabs here and once the common enemy ( Assad ) is gone will this lot want an orderly transfer of power as in Egypt or are we going to have another Iraq? Unlike Egypt there is no respected institution in Syria like the Egyptian army was and so given the task for forming a caretaker government until elections could be held. A Hezbollah coup, with a shattered Syrian army and having both a military and political wing maybe they will manage to take over rule as an Iranian proxy. As far as the west goes the Assad's & Saddam Hussain's of this world may not make life pleasant for their own population but having a strongman provides stability which the rest of the world prefers even if the locals might look back on the Assad regime with nostalgia.
