1. Evacuation of Druze
John Robey ,   Austin, Texas   (07.22.12)
If they were Jewish kids how long do you think it would be before Israel got them out of there?
2. Druze : I bet they want to return to Israe !
DT ,   TA Israel   (07.22.12)
3. Summer adventure in Damascus
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.22.12)
All of a sudden, it's not so much fun, eh? All of a sudden, perhaps they are no longer big fans of returning the Golan Heights to Syria. Leave them where they are, for now. Let them learn to be thankful for everything they had in Israel and willingly relinquished. When they are appropriately appreciative, maybe we will let them come back. Or maybe not. After all, no one dragged them to Syria. They left Israel willingly. And now -- wah, wah, wah -- they want to come home. What Israel needs to do is come to a decision if Israelis should be allowed to travel to a hostile country, and then come back when the going gets tough. For all we know, they are now trained spies. Leave them where they are. Hopefully, they will live long enough to rue their decision to leave Israel in the first place.
4. How the heck did they gain entrance to Syria?
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.22.12)
I'm not allowed to enter Syria, and I've tried. If I did enter Syria I'd be facing prosecution charges upon my return for visiting an enemy country. This law has been in effect since 1954. Two laws for two peoples, or selective prosecution?
5. Golan Druze
Steve ,   Dallas   (07.22.12)
What does that mean "bring them home"? The Golan Druze say Syria IS their home. Only those with Israeli citizenship should be brought "home". The rest can enjoy the paradise they want to inflict on the rest of Israel.
6. I read all the time Druze want Golan to be returned to Syria
Alan ,   SA   (07.22.12)
7. Ahhhh! are they the Druzim who love Israel
Taula ,   Israel   (07.22.12)
Or are they the ones who sheltered the rioters from Lebanon and stole IDF weapons? I think before they are let back in again, some serious background checking needs to be done.
8. @J Robey
Michael Ben Raphael ,   Tel Aviv   (07.22.12)
The druze on the Golan Heights have been offered full Israeli citenzenship, and they have refused. Recently they held protests in support of Assad. Now they cant wait to come back to Israel. If they had accepted citenzenship Israel would have gotten them out. You can't have it both ways!
9. To #1
Lucy ,   London UK   (07.22.12)
Your question is really very easy to answer. Jewish kids are not stupid enough to go on a trip to Damascus in the first place. Maybe people from Austin, Texas would go, unless of course they happened to be Jewish.
10. To Mr's Sarah B
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (07.22.12)
I do appreciate your comment "summer adventure in Damascus". I add it. Israel, exactly for her good principles, is admired and loved by a lot of people, around the world, that share humanism and solidarity; including renewed Christians like me and others. Never think you are isolated. Never disregard our opinions and suggestions. We only want to collaborate. Warm Salutes.
11. Opportunity to earn loyalty
Ceki Gulcu ,   Switzerland   (07.22.12)
The symbolic value of a rescue operation undertaken by Israel in favor of Druze students trapped in Syria should not be underestimated. Israel should strive to protect all its citizens and earn their loyalty.
12. #1 - Your Question Begs Something
ltrail ,   United States   (07.22.12)
The State of Israel is the homeland of, and for Jews. Of course other groups live there and are Citizens too. Firstly, what Jewish kids would take a summer off and visit Syria under such conditions? They would likely never be allowed out of Syria and never seen from again. The foolish Druze students are fortunate enough to have Israel and the Red Cross to help them.
13. #11 Chris- Druze need to show loyalty to the state.
Rachel ,   US   (07.22.12)
14. Nice to hear Druze
Mira ,   Vienna   (07.22.12)
calling Israel their "home"! Most of the 'Arabs living in Golan heights might be happy of that fact as well now!
15. Ignorance of Golan Druze citizenship status
Mikey ,   SomeWhere OverHere   (07.22.12)
The article and the many talkbackers seem to be ignorant about Golan Druzes' citizenship status. Unlike the Israeli Druze, many Golan Druze have refused Israeli citizenship since the Golan came under Israeli control in 1967, and they still declare themselves to be Syrian citizens. Many go back to Syria for study, marriage etc. Just under half of Golan Druze have accepted Israeli citizenship though.Obviously if these people go to Syria for study, they're the types who have refused Israeli citizenship--but looks like now they feel they made the wrong choice.
16. Evacuation of Druze
Fred Dorey ,   New York USA   (07.22.12)
John, If they were Jewish kids they would n't be in Damascus. But to your point let's say somewhere in the world Israeli's were in trouble the government would move quickly to get them out. Now as far as the Golan druze, they consider Israel to be an enemy occupier and Syria to be their country. Why should Israel take extraordinary efforts on their behalf when they will stab her in the back? Your logic John, is devoid of reason.
17. Druze and other Moslems in Israel
(07.22.12)
Most of the Moslems in Israel know that Israel is a much better place to live in than any Arab country. They just don't want to admit it in public. But if they keep hating Israel, they are welcome to leave and go to a Moslem country.
18. May They Are Barking Up The Wrong Tree?
(07.22.12)
Maybe they should contact walid jumbatt ??? As For Israeli students visiting The Killing Fields of the Butcher of syria, HA Ha ha I Don't think So #1 You MORON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
19. Haddad
Rour ,   Canada   (07.22.12)
Dont you know how much you are demeaning yourself? Stop kissing ass and grovelling to such vile people. You are a traitor to your motherland. Disgusting.
20. To # 11
Jack Daniels ,   Lynchburg TN. / USA   (07.22.12)
Earn the loyalty of Israel? they need to use walking aroung sense!! Going to a war torn county for a summer vacation does not make good sense thumbing their nose to Israel, now pay attention Scooter. they should try real hard to be loyal to Israel, if they want to live in the only democractic country in the middle east. [ I think they realize that now ]
21. jews help jews
dmmd ,   ny, usa   (07.22.12)
muslims hate muslims John you see things through Jew hating glasses. You see what you are looking for.
22. The New Generation
Debi ,   Israel   (07.22.12)
I have worked with many of the young Druzim, the new generation. Even though it may be true that many of them in the past have rejected to be Israeli citizens, many young men from the Druze villages are frustrated that they are unable to serve in the IDF. They DO want to contribute and they feel very strongly about Israel. I realize I use the term they very broadly. Obviously not everyone wishes to serve. But you can say that about Israeli Jews as well.
23. #19 Don't be Foolish
Pedro ,   Brazil   (07.22.12)
He is not a traitor because he is Brazilian. And if his family one day moved to Brazil coming from Syria or any other Arab state, it was to escape from crimiinals like Assad and radical Muslims.
24. Revenge is sweet
zionist forever   (07.22.12)
One of those students was nice and safe in an Israeli jail until he was released for a soldier who not only did not get helped by the Red Cross but was not allowed Red Cross visits for years. Now that guy is stuck in Syria and the Red Cross can't come to his rescue and he is moaning about how unfair that is. These Druze are some of the ones who rejected Israeli citizenshp when it was offered and now they are learning the hard way that Israeli citizenship and loyalty to Israel is more valuable that anything the arabs have to offer.
25. Rour # 19
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (07.22.12)
What sour grapes you post. If Mr. Hddad's post upsets the likes of you he must be doing something right. Three cheers for Mr. Haddad!
26. # 11 on loyalty
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (07.22.12)
Loyalty is a two way street. Israel owes these people nothing.

The little mouse that ... er ... roured!

(07.22.12)
these druz are not israeli citizens. israel offered citizenship to them years ago, but they refused because they want to be syrians. what can we do about htis, ha? they made their choice. they also support bashaar al assad. why should israel bring them back? it is not our responsibility.
29. arabs

30. #17 Druse NOT Muslim!
David N. ,   Haifa, ISRAEL   (07.22.12)
They have elements of a number of different faiths, but are not Muslims, or even a semi-Muslim sect at all.
