1. No wonder
Roman ,   IL   (07.25.12)
The Tal Law created a monster/parasite that simply abuse the system. It does not surprise me that haredi dodge IDF and work. Hey, would you sit on your a$$ all day and receive a monthly stipend? Sure you would! The Tal Law has to be removed and this is long overdue. This article simply explores the obvious fact...

8. How many haredi are cheats though
zionist forever   (07.25.12)
Everybody likes to assume because one haredi doesn't want to serve in the army or spits at a woman then they all refuse to serve and spit at women which is simply not the case. Plenty of haredi serve in the army, there are hundreds of people in Nahal Haredi and they have combat roles. Most do not spit at women its the radical minority who do that. Its the same with these students working for cash in hand so they can avoid the army. They don't represent the majority of yeshiva students and is there such thing as a country where you don't get people who will work for cash in hand under the table to avoid paying taxes or because they are claiming welfare and if they have a job they are not eligible? My parents in England own their own business and they have a woman who comes in twice a weak to clean the shop but she is claiming welfare and her payments would be reduced if she has a job even one thats not very well paid so she gets cash and nobody says anything to the taxman. Is that any different to what those students are doing, both stand to loose something if they declare their job so both say nothing and just do things illegally. Channel 10 is also not famous for their love of all things religious.
9. Need for change
Danny ,   London England   (07.25.12)
Many Haredi males should be in the IDF and would be if it were not for social presure in the Haredi world against joining the army. Haredi Rabbonim understand this and accept there must be a change.
10. more DISTORTED GARBAGE!
Riva ,   Israel   (07.25.12)
Let's see, IF a MARRIED STUDENT receives $200/month, plus you say a bit more, then, he still needs to pay Betuch Leumi for his family for every month, he still needs to eat which usually runs a few thousand shekles, pay rent, utilities, etc which puts him at a deficit of THOUSANDS OF SHEKLES A MONTH, essentially forcing him and his family to starve! so, out of desperation, some guys, try to work "under the table." From what i understand, a good number of non religious people in the population ALSO WORK UNDER THE TABLE! why isn't this reporter checking on this! from my three sons, two went to the IDF and one desires to sit and learn all day. he is almost 20. he REALLY learns. He also hardly eats as i discovered because the Yeshiva which he lives at not only hardly has any money for food, but they certainly don't have money to give unmarried guys a stipend. a stipend, a rare entitiy and one which YNET is sure to keep harping on over and over while forgetting about all the BIG CORRUPTION OUT THERE not associated with Torah scholars!
11. 4 The Arabs know that the study...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (07.25.12)
of the Tora protects israel, and they do not dare attack us.
12. They definitely learn more
What's the problem?   (07.25.12)
than secular draft dodgers who are making loads of money without going to the army. Shame on secular draft dodgers. They neither serve the state nor G-d.
13. #4: its not the matter of protecting israel
david ,   new york   (07.25.12)
its the matter of protecting a culture. the army is designed to assimilate and many pushing for haredim to be drafted are doing it with the intention of destroying haredi culture. now, here in the US, amish and like were not drafted even in wartime. much of the problem actually comes from the state: we should be encouraging people to work, not making it illegal. haredim could contribute to the general society through work on charities. the main thing is the state should not control it, because their intentions are to destroy haredi culture. it must be under control of haredi rabbinic leaders.
14. Reply to number 4. Guardian of Israel
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (07.25.12)
'The Guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps'. However strong Israel's enemies have grown, neither Nazism nor Communism could destroy us so long as we cleaved to the Lord Our G-d. The basis of the Covenant at the heart of our faith is that so long as we keep G-d's laws/Torah we will merit the fulfillment of the Prophets' vision of the New Zion when 'My House [Jerusalem] will be called a House of Prayer for ALL peoples.'
15. @4 this is not a flippant answer: it keeps us in good w/G-d.
(07.25.12)
You see from everything I understand G-d according to certain groups of Ultra-Orthodox is a very picky uknee G-d. He keeps accounts of everything. In order for us to have clean and clear accounts with Him and so that He will offer us His help we need to have thousands of ultra-orthodox men studying the texts and slaying themselves on the fields of Torah.... @4 was this response useful? ;-)
16. Paying cash in London
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (07.25.12)
There's been a major issue in the UK media about workers being paid in cash so they can receive unemployment benefit. Nothing uniquely Haredi about the issue. There are similar problems in NYC.
17. And whose fault is that?
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.25.12)
The army doesn't want them, but the state won't let them work without military service. Last year students were sent back to yeshiva because the military said their services were not needed (or could not be accommodated). The stipends come to anyone who has their indigent status, but they'd be put in prison if they tried to report their income and pay taxes. They're gonna work. The question is should they're work be legal and taxable; declarabe and counted to make them inelligible for stipend, or should they be forced to do so illegally while we pay for it twice (once with stipends and second with lost taxes)?
18. tent war against. haredim goes on

19. #11...Ora

Then why are they under constant mortar fire from gaza?Maybe you were being sarcastic...I hope.
20. 11 & 17: "on the head of the thief the hat burns"
(07.25.12)
which is to say Ladies no has attacked you two so why are you protesting so loudly and blaming every one else? FYI it isn't an issue of lame blame it is an issue of taking responsibility...and it is clear that no one wants to take responsibility...everyone wants to be in a situation of the party continues...and from your comments it looks like the two of you are enjoying the party greatly!
21. Orly please provide an explanation for the following:
(07.25.12)
For years Ultra-orthodox Jews in the USA have been milking the welfare system... they marry in ultra-orthodox ceremonies and don't file for local marriage licenses. By not filing for local marriage licenses and then having children they are technically single mothers and are eligible for welfare. Now whose fault is that?
22. Expose
Iletzter ,   TA- Israel   (07.25.12)
Bravo. I think you put the issue in its proper perspective. Unfortunately, Channel 10 is out for blood , libel , and only scandalous news and therfore knows how to set up the backround for their exposee, which is nothing more than drivel
23. Send this article to Netanyahu!

24. haredim working
levi ,   brooklyn usa   (07.25.12)
better the money goes to our jewish brothers than the enemy arab
25. Sure I work some on the side
Talmudic sage ,   TA   (07.25.12)
How do you expect me to pay to feed my five children? Do you think that the paltry amount the government gives me and my yeshiva comrades will keep us afloat? The government should pay us more. And why should I have to join the IDF? My prayers to Ha'Shem do more to keep Israel safe than all of your taxes and guns and bombs.
26. its fraud i agree but lets analyze
MOTI ,   USA   (07.25.12)
notice the article says Married students!!!! so if you calculate the amount total to the max in yeshiva output that will bring it to NIS 3840 most married couples the woman stays home to tend to the house while the man goes and learns and works, as far as pay they dont make no more than NIS 3500 monthly. So all in total thats NIS 7340 monthly, barely enough to get the couple thru the month calculating all expense such as food, rent, and daily spending. The major problem in Israel is pay not only do woman and man work they barely get by the month which leaves them on the poverty line. to make a real change the whole financial institution must be reformed, minimum wage must increase and price of living must decrease then things can be put forward.
27. Ora , 11 . The study of tora protects ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (07.25.12)
And where was this "protection" during the Shoa ? Where was this "protection" when the Fogel family zl was murdered ? Those so called "students" are unnecessarry , are a waste of money . Learn history . Arabs don't dare to attack us ? 1948 , 1967 , 1973 . Who attacked if not arabs .
28. These people discust me
Haim ,   ta   (07.25.12)
And they think they are teaching others morality ?
29. #10 don't make excuses for deception
Scott ,   Ramat Gan, Israel,   (07.25.12)
Where in the Torah does it say it's okay to sneaky, underhanded, deceitful & dishonest? If it's for a few hundred shekels? And the argument that " the secular do it too" is bogus because 2 wrongs don't make a right. The Haredim are a bunch of hypocrites. They read the Torah but don't practice its teachings.
30. Haredim are exempted from shame too
fraier ,   israel   (07.25.12)
