1. The growth of palestinian economy is negative due to relianc
Ari   (07.26.12)
on Foreign Aide and on Israeli restrictions. But then it says swe expect the foreign aid to boos economy. If they would sit to talk like people, if they would quit inciting their people against Israel. Then many checkpoint wont be necessary and many things can improve inclusing Israel's help which will be much better than that of UNRWA andthe Arab countries. IF they quit bashing Israel at any opurtunity in the International Arena things would have been better. Before 1983 things between Israel and the Population in th WB and Gaza was fine until Arafat appear and Hamas was created. More Than 20.000 people worked in Israel, therte were mixed proyects, but the Arab leadership decided better for War Antfadas and suicide Bombers Then came restrictions the Wall etc
2. So why has Abbas refused to negotiate for almost 4 years
Eric ,   Tel Aviv & NY   (07.26.12)
For almost 4 years now (even before Bibi lost the last election and then was asked to form a government) Abbas has refused to negotiate. He refuses to negotiate boarders - preventing building problems for both Palestinians and Israelis. He refuses to negotiate final status. He has forced his people into a spiraling black hole of despair rather than negotiate peace. He has scared away investment. He has scared away EU aid money. He has scared away Arab aid money. He has scared away US Aid money. Not surprising that an economy built on 25 years of aid money can not sustain itself or survive when its President makes it so hard to help them.
3. Shatiya wants the Palestinian economy
(07.26.12)
to recover? Recover from what, exactly? The last time they produced something besides home-grown terrorism was... When was that? Their "economy" consists of billions if not trillions of dollars of foreign aid, which is used to line the pockets for the top officials and pay for the weapons they don't get as presents, and to print textbooks to brainwash the next generation with hatred for Israel, and to build monuments to dead terrorists. Even the dates from Jericho you used to be able to get are no longer on the market. Its exports consist of... What was that again? Oh right, terrorism, I knew there was something.
4. "its the terrorism stupid"
bill clinton   (07.26.12)
5. um, they never had a country, and never had an economy
jack bauer   (07.26.12)
unless you count building rockets and bombs
6. A little timeline logic for the PA folks
William ,   Israel   (07.26.12)
1999 - your economy was the fastest growing in the world (due to open borders, higher security, joint industrial centers with Israel and Jordan) 2000 - you started a massive terror campaign, which caused foreign businesses and capital to flee, and destroyed joint industrial parks, and cancelled work permits for Pallys in Israel. 2002 - security wall erected because of the massive war crimes YOU inflicted on Israeli (and "Palestinian") civilians 2005 - Israel leaves Gaza to boost your chances for a future State, "palestinians" turned it into a den of terrorists and continue to commit war crimes. 2007-present - You've neglected your own people and peace in efforts to win foreign Arab favor by supporting failed terror and rejecting Israel as a peaceful neighbor. 2011 - the UN justifies the blockade around Gaza, Intl Law justifies Israeli actions (checkpoints, raids, security wall, etc.) as necessary to protect their civilians - a sovereign right. So - what's it going to be, PA? Will you finally reject terrorism and welcome back businesses that wish to exist in a secure, stable environment, or - will you continue down the path of racist aggression against Israel and demand the world support your efforts with limited resources, which is unsustainable? Fayyad should be able to answer this one easily, with his financial background.
7. Oh, for heaven's sake!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.26.12)
Nothing is ever the fault of the ersatz "Palestinians," is it? 1. Israeli checkpoints. Well, if there weren't such an abundance of ersatz "Palestinian" terrorists, there might not be a need for checkpoints. But there are a great many ersatz "Palestinian" terrorists whose sole raison d'etre is to murder innocent Jews, so the checkpoints will remain until all of Judea and Samaria are annexed and the ersatz "Palestinian" population is repatriated to Jordan. Sorry. 2. High unemployment. Well, yeah. The ersatz "Palestinians" wanted autonomy; they got it. No more lucrative jobs in Israel. But autonomy's the best thing since sliced bread, right? Perhaps the ersatz "Palestinian" leadership could create jobs, but they are far too busy buying lavish homes in Europe and beefing up already hefty private offshore bank accounts. Three-quarters of the ersatz "Palestinian" Authority's employees are unnecessary, but if the so-called "leadership" doesn't give all those cousins, uncles, aunts, brothers and sons jobs, family reunions will probably not be terribly pleasant. 3. Poverty. See Point 2 above. 4. Investments. It's Israel's money; we get to direct the investments. Don't like that? Fine. We'll stop giving the ersatz "Palestinians" money. No more investments problem. See how EASY that is? Israel had to make do with far less money and far more enemies. We managed. Perhaps it is time for the ersatz "Palestinians" to stop their incessant whining and complaining and finger-pointing and finally accept that they are entirely to blame for their situation. Everyone has grown so sick and tired of them. Put up, or shut up. I guess they just cannot stand being out of the news for more than six hours. What a bunch of slackers!
8. They blame the..... Jews, again! Never applying ANY
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (07.26.12)
sense of introspection, any degree of soul searching, any amount of self-critical look at what they have done wrong, never. Sadly, this is part and parcel of the Muslim-Arab society in general, hence, the results throughout the region. And, if it were not for the availability of petrol in the region, this society would be living today as it did in the 7th century!
9. Arabs, Merchants, Traders, not Industrious
Tarbouche ,   Aswan   (07.26.12)
They will never make an adequate economy; They breed too many and lost their skills at trade
10. PA prove the world bank right in an attempt to prove it wron
zionist forever   (07.26.12)
" Shatiya expressed hope that the PA's economy would improve, as Arab countries vouched to financially aid the Palestinian Authority In his attempt to try and have us all believe that the World Bank is wrong and the palestinians are economically ready for a state and don't rely on handouts this Fatah economist had admitted that the World Bank is right and they are not ready. He says the economy won't bounce back this year but would improve when the Arab countries vouched to financially aid the PA.. Looks like this guy show himself in the foot, he wanted us all to believe the world bank is wrong but he ends up himself admitting they are right.
11. Pals Miscalculation
ACortez ,   Anaheim, CA, USA   (07.26.12)
Everyday that the Pals hold up the peace process, they move a little closer to their natural Arab homelands. Stay strong Israel, all of your homeland will be yours again soon. You've waited thousands of years so what's a few more. God bless Israel and all of her people.
12. Not Ready
ltrail ,   United States   (07.26.12)
"...though Israel is not fully to blame, it bears great culpability, a top Palestinian economist said". Unfortunately, the economist is trying to shed blame that the palestinians are totally responsible for causing. If groups of palestinians (hamas, for one) had not performed acts of terror against Jews and others in Israel, those checkpoints would not be needed. Additionally, Israel can not permit materials to enter gaza (one location) because they could be used to construct bunkers to protect the palestinian terrorists from Israel retaliating against palestinian rockets coming out of gaza. Palestinians: You cannot have it both ways. Choose either war with Israel, or peace with Israel. Good luck with the former.
13. Cry me a river.......
cc ,   telaviv   (07.26.12)
14. Double Talk
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (07.26.12)
B"H Forget it. The PA is a terror org finalised to the elimination of the Jews and Israel and no amount of "normalization" will ever change that. Call me when Israel decides to win its war of "independence".
15. Not ready for a State
tiki ,   belgium   (07.26.12)
We knew that but......... If so, why are they participating at the Olympics as the State of "Palestine"? If so, why could they be allowed to become a Member State of UNESCO? If so, why do western, supposedly intellgent countries, continue calling them a State? What gives them this 'special status (and billions of the worlds taxpayers money), as opposed to Kashmir, Kurdistan, Tibet, Basque counry or Tamil State? Their so called opponents are no Jews! It's about time the world climbed of the 'Palestinian mountain, for it's not a mountain, but a cesspool!
16. They need to export
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (07.26.12)
But what they most need to export are all the PA/Fatah terrorists in suits and uniforms back to where they were before they were unwisely let in. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
17. they should be the richest of countries--BUT
bob ,   potomac md   (07.26.12)
their leaders are criminals==the Mufti al Husseini received millions of Marks from Hitler, which he used to live high on the hog in Beirut==and Arafat stole billions of dollars, and who knows what the current criminals have stolen? It's easy to play the victim and blame the Jews. And, of course, there are the phony refugee lists paid off by the UN--
18. "Palestinian" economy is fictional. Like Palestine itself.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.26.12)
The last paragraph tells the whole story. The biggest employers in fictional Palestine are the U.N.R.W.A. and the P.A.; both of which are almost totally funded by Western suckers...er donors. The "Palestinian" economy is entirely fictional; like Palestine itself. It consists of grabbing dollars supplied by foreigners, parking most of the money in Swiss bank accounts and recycling what is left over. After providing generous subsidies to terrorists.
19. As usual its somebody else's fault, not their kleptocracy.
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (07.26.12)
Unlike the naive West pouring money in, their rich brothers know better.
20. #123, Blaming West Bank, like blaming Jews for Warsaw Ghetto
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (07.26.12)
...economic problems.
21. You, Palis, restrict your young people from
Frank ,   USA   (07.26.12)
venting out their hormonal frustrations in discos, bars or other venues. You want to control everything including emotions. Such people cannot be productive. They can only be angry and discontent.
22. Those who do not criticize the Palestinians are not
Cindy ,   Newport Beach, Calif   (07.26.12)
doing them any favor. They don't have any incentive to change due to those who support their victimhood status. The Palestinians love the overseas donations and are totally into dwelling in misery. Such people never lift themselves up because they are too lazy to face reality, be self-critical and look in the mirror. They reap what they sow.
23. Unless they accept Israel, make peace instead of war
Sam ,   USA   (07.26.12)
face reality, stop the terror campaigns, discontinue all kinds of warfares which include demography, media, economic boycotts, etc they will never amount to anything. They waste their valuable time and effort on the most unproductive activities, mainly to smear the Jewish sovereignty of Israel. It will bring them no luck or happiness.
24. LOL The 'welfare state' of the stateless pals.
Bad Assed Jew ,   United States   (07.26.12)
Of course the pals can never have their own state, because all that land they want belongs to Israel. Thankfully, when the idiots ( like we in the US ) end this sponsoring of terrorists, they will move back to where they came from.....
25. Show the pals the door out of Israel
Bad Assed Jew ,   United States   (07.26.12)
and, don't let it hit them in the ass on the way out. Most miserable liars, child abusers in the world, and that's not counting their failed bid for the land of Israel that the world knows belongs to the Jews.
26. Thieves
olavi ,   espoo, finland   (07.26.12)
West has poured money to PA. Where it is. The leaders stole it. PA are unable to run their own country if independent. So are other arabs too. No progres and resonable life. Only terror.
27. "Palestinians" should only be paid to leave.
Chaim ,   Israel   (07.27.12)
Let's stop funding fictional Palestine and it's fictional economy. "Palestinians" sould only be paid to leave.
28. It's the occupation
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (07.27.12)
End the Arab occupation and send the Jordanian colonists home and the economy will be fine.
29. There goes Steve Benassi again
Brian Cohen ,   Judean Peoples Front   (07.27.12)
Come on, Steve. We all know the North AMerican native peoples are all poor and non-industrious because you stole their continent from them. When are you you going back to Europe where you came from like we Jews went back to Palestine where we come from?
30. 18
zionist forever   (07.27.12)
You forgot to add that whilst is begging the international community for more money and telling us all how the PA doesn't have enough money to pay its employees some of this foreign aid money is being used to pay a salary to the terrorists locked up in Israeli jails. Every palestinian in an Israeli jail is on the PAs payroll or would that be the international communities payroll as they fund the PA? Why does the west continue to hand out this money no questions asked? The western governments should ask the PA to say in advance what the money is used for, watch to make sure they are using it for this purpose and at the end of each year ask to see the books see where all the money is being spent.
