1. holocaust survivors shouldn't dictate immigration policy
zionist forever   (07.28.12)
Legitimate refugees whose lives will be in danger if they return we cannot deport and we are not. The economic migrants who came to Israel looking for a better quality of life and whose lives are not in danger if returned they have no right to be here and just because Holocaust survivors believe we have a duty to take in ever hard luck case from the third world doesn't mean we should.
2. #1 Zionist Forever - Have you added up the numbers?
Tracy W   (07.29.12)
1) You fail to notice that Africans travel across at least one other country in order to infiltrate into Israel. This means that they have already found refuge of some sort in Egypt or other countries along the way. If Israel is obligated to take them in, as you think, Egypt is even more obligated because the asylum seekers are already there. 2) Syria is now in turmoil. Or it could be Jordan next time. Or Lebanon. Or even Gaza. Would Israel be obligated to take hundred of thousands of refugees just because their lives are in peril? Think about it. Israel is itself in a precarious situation with borders and a state capital that are not recognized by even Israel's "friends". The Jewish majority is not that reassuring. Not with this constant influx of infiltrators. Add to that all the threats made to Israel's very existence, the rockets coming from Sinai and Gaza. All that goes to show that Israelis themselves do not live in peace. 3) You're being a bit too generous. Do an estimate of the potential numbers of asylum seekers this year and for the next 30, 100 years and think about it.
3. They're not in their right minds!
Reuven   (07.29.12)
The illegals must go...all of them. Otherwise, we'll lose Israel.
4. No sachel
michael Pielet ,   Israel   (07.29.12)
Just because you are a survivor, victim, does not mean you have any sachel, intelligence.
5. nice sentiment but not reality based. reality sucks just lik
RALPH   (07.29.12)
like it did in ww11. luck not brains kept these lucky people alive. give them a pat on the back and send them on their way. israel cannot nor should it shoulder all the worlds evils by it self. it is to small and has not the resources.
6. immigrants
jc ,   madison,wi   (07.29.12)
perhaps since israel often helps other countries they could start some "kibbutzim" or "moshavim" in the various african countries that the immigrants come from.they just want to work just like the immigrants who originally came to israel.
7. Yes.
nibor ,   israel   (07.29.12)
Capitalism is fine. Not being a pushover is also good. But Jewish people are supposed to be better than others. Part of Exodus that everyone knows says, "You were a stranger in a strange land. Treat the stranger kindly."
8. not reality, just a do gooder newline for doves
jack buaer   (07.29.12)
they are not asylum seekers, they are illegal moslem immigrants who have traversed other countries before smuggling themselves into Israel. They need to be sent back right away

That's what THEY said about us.
10. #9 Ethan - The UNHCR is tasked with caring for them
Tracy W   (07.29.12)
Unlike European Jews, genuine refugees now have a well-funded United Nations agency to look after them. Let me correct that: there are TWO organizations: UNHCR and UNRWA. Either one of them could set up refugee camps in Egypt to look after them. But most of them are not even refugees, they are economic migrants. Israel is too tiny to absorb the millions - YES, MILLIONS - of Africans who now suffer from poverty, illness, persecution and violence. Please do not use Jewish history to manipulate Jews into believing they are obligated to open their borders to those millions of suffering Africans. The situation is quite different.
11. No comment for fear of censorship...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (07.31.12)
12. I fear for the safety of these protesters.
Mark E. Smith ,   San Diego, USA   (12.24.13)
I think that those of us who care about aging Jewish Holocaust survivors should try to find a way to help them escape from Israel. Most Israelis are apt to see them as "beautiful souls," which is a derogatory phrase in Hebrew, used to describe people who care about human rights. Jewish Holocaust survivors are not safe in a country with contempt for human rights, and should be rescued. These protesters are indeed beautiful souls, precious souls, and should not have to spend their final days in a country of ugly souls.
