1. Mr. Netanyahu could well learn from this...
Patriotic Israeli ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.02.12)
to be respected mayor. YOU HAVE A PRINCIPLE. YOU STICK TO IT!!! Unfortunately Mr. Netanyahu sticks to nothing but his seat and office!!!
2. don't bend to their stupidity
Jew1 ,   Ashdod   (08.02.12)
Why did they change the programme. If the women were suppose to sing many songs then they should have sung those songs and not just two. Do not mend our ways to suit their stupidity but stand firm. No matter if the whole ceremany hall is empty.....You give them finger, they will eat your hand. Do this for your daughter, sister, wife's sake. If not for them, then do it for your mother's sake as she gave you life by shading her bloood. She deserves better respect than these goons give her.
3. The orthoquack refuse to help defend the state yet you post
Al   (08.02.12)
Police to protect them. Leave them to their own devices and to hell with them. I for one am sick and tired of these impostors..they are not Jews,,,they are impostors. They are a far cry from the Judaism I was taught as a child and which I saw in my childhood home. I can safely state that most people in Israel are plainly sick of these louts. I cant find any excuse for their boorish behaviour.
4. Like #1, maybe we can learn from this
PaulZion ,   Israel   (08.02.12)
Before the government votes on contentious issues like Haredi draft, etc, bring in a woman for musical entertainment. Then, while the Haredi members leave the meeting, pass thd decision!
5. To call these people
Sagi   (08.02.12)
dignitaries is an affront to humanity. There is nothing dignified about them whatsoever.
6. Dignitaries?
Mike ,   Tel Aviv   (08.02.12)
Dignitaries? Don't you mean Pignitaries? Because they are behaving like pigs indeed.
7. I propose we win this war while it is still bloodless!
tom ,   tel aviv   (08.02.12)
8. is that in IRAN ??
hot snow ,   tlv   (08.02.12)
9. Haredim without shame
basri ,   paris   (08.02.12)
Poor haredim ! Like little boys who are very frighten by their mother. "Leh leha"...It's time
10. #2, 3, 5 etc - you are stupid as well as rude.
rebecca ,   Modiin   (08.02.12)
If they dont want the people of Modiin Illit to use the police station, why put it up? Waste of money. Police are supposed to serve the community they are put into, not insult it.
11. Police official who organised this did not know his audience
rebecca ,   Modiin   (08.02.12)
Are organizational skills in Israel that bad that they did not realise they were in Modiin Ilit. I dont think anyone could make a mistake this stupid. I think they did it on purpose. Well I hope they know it will cost them. They've wasted putting up this police station, all for a bit of self interest and lack of respect of others. Someone should be fired for this, not just for the females singing, but for the total incompetency.
12. So even police women are objects of entertainment
rebecca ,   Modiin   (08.02.12)
rather than police. Couldn't they give them sexier costumes while they're at it? What an insult to the police women.
13. To # 3
Robert Blum ,   New Albany, USA   (08.02.12)
The largest percentage and growing in number, of IDF soldiers are observant = orthodox = correct! In need to maintain modesty and inhibit inappropriate sexual thoughts and inclinations, the mayor and other observant Jews left. While this behavior is outside of your life experience and assimilated value system, it is correct and exemplifies highest standards. It is NOT a gesture of being condescending, and should be respected, if not adhered to, hence is undeserving of your label "orthoquack"...Your lack of sensitivity and level of non-learning and non-understanding is clearly evident here.
14. good grief
Bad Assed Jew ,   United States   (08.02.12)
when will this anti female bias end? It is embarrassing to read that the same women who protect these creeps are treated so shabbily. Maybe an all male force would help these women fearing males? Or, an all female force who can't come to their rescue because they are females.? Time for these lunatics to grow up, serve as all other Israeli's do and stop the comedy act that makes so many Gentiles ( and many Jews ) laugh at such bigoted anti female chauvinistic 'religious' behavior. The only thing these Jews don't adopt from the Taliban is stoning women to death. Get with the program Jack. There is no place for any sort of discrimination against brave Jewish women who risk their lives so that these 'special' people can live without working or also serving their nation in her defense. Shape up or I may have to sing a lullaby to these big brave frightened men. ( I use that word Men, loosely )
15. A new weapon in city hall
Josh   (08.02.12)
G-d's torah? I see why tests exist in it. To get fools to flee when none pursue.
16. It is good that the illiterate secular are learning halachot
(08.02.12)
although indirectly against their will and desire to know anything that has to do with Jewish tradition, laws and customs.
17. #7 - Those who would even propose a war
Patriotic Israeli ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.02.12)
of blood as an alternative HAVE ALREADY LOST!!!
18. Cretins
Johanna ,   Orlando, USA   (08.02.12)
Oh, the men are so holy that the mere sound of a woman's voice is sinful? Why don't they just move to Afghanistan? That's the obvious solution.
19. AND MYSOGYNY ONCE AGAIN RULES THE DAY
stude ham   (08.02.12)
like these religious idiots think the divine spirit shines on them for averring female singers. for this kind of crap we went back to israel?
20. #18 - It is more likely that those who hate
Patriotic Israeli ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.02.12)
heredim and cannot respect their lifestyle choices, are the ones who will end up leaving Israel and moving to Afghanistan! That will be the end solution!
21. Charedi city? ISRAELI city!!
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (08.02.12)
22. No strident tone, just a faux pas
Ilan   (08.02.12)
The police had an error of judgement in that they invited guests to a ceremony who do not listen to women singing and then scheduled women singers. It seems to be an honest mistake on their part and no one except the media made a fuss about it. I doubt that the police would invite an iman on Ramadan with a luncheon with served with ice cold beer. You simply don't invite guests then insult them.
23. That is it my daughter is out of here
Sarah B (No not her)   (08.02.12)
There is no future for her in Israel We are becoming Iran
24. choice of singers 'was an innocent mistake,
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (08.02.12)
The haredim, are trying to correct God's innocent mistake, creating women with a beautiful voice, and beautiful hair.
25. #20: And when the only people
Runner1983 ,   USA   (08.02.12)
live in Israel are those Haredim who do not work (and who marginalize women similar to how they are marginalized in Arab countries), who will provide welfare support to the haredi community? The Israeli societal model is flawed and is not sustainable, and needs to be fixed fast.
26. Gotta say....
Aviva ,   Israel   (08.02.12)
even on YNET I would not have expected most of these talkbacks. When I go out to eat with my "animal-rights-activist" friend I don't order steak. People are entitled to their own value system and in a hareidi city women should not sing at public functions. Besides, whether refusing to listen to women sing is an act of misogyny is a matter of interpretation - the hareidim would probably say that whether or not an individual is sexually aroused by a woman's singing, the potential is certainly there and thus it is disrespectful to women. Agree or disagree - our choice, but there's no reason to judge their motive and assume "hadarat nashim" based on our value system.
27. no, the police should pay LESS attention to these things!
shloime ,   toronto, canada   (08.03.12)
since all these "dignitaries" feed from the public trough, we should conduct a little experiment: hatikvah, the national anthem should be played again, with a male voice leading. and any "dignitaries" who choose to leave the room, or not sing along, should have their names and pictures published. (and their undeserved government funding cut off.) there a re plenty of jobs waiting for them in ramallah.
28. It isn't in my Torah
Sage ,   Haifa   (08.03.12)
No place in my Torah does it say men cannot or should not listen to women sing. Get over it!
