2. What Putin want
Dr D ,   Jerusalem   (08.02.12)
1) Guarantees from post Assad regime that Syria will pay for the armaments supplied to Assad. 2) Guarantees that the Russian fleet will be allowed to dock in Syria and maintain a base. 3) Guarantees that all Russians interests and investments in Syria will be preserved. Syria and Iran know that the day the Russians will be fully paid it will be the end of Syria and Iran present regimes . At this point we are facing a dilemma . With the current financial crisis in the West who is going to pay Putin &Co??
3. kind of reminds me of Shaul Mofaz
zionist forever   (08.02.12)
Joins the coalition with big plans three months later he realized this was not going anywhere so he quits the coalition achieving nothing at all. Kofi Annan came along with big plans, realized it was going nowhere decided to quit after achieving nothing. The only ones who have determination here are the Russians and they are determined to save Assad.
4. It has been obvious for a long time
Sidney ,   USA   (08.02.12)
The UN is worthless. You cannot have a democratic assembly when a majority of its members are totalitarian.
5. Russia needs the Latakia naval port
Nora Tel Aviv   (08.02.12)
All other blah blah blahs are russian blah blah blahs.
6. ha ha..."Friends of Freedom" !
(08.02.12)
We are the "Friends of Freedom". If you have Oil we form a grand "coalition of the willing" instantly [even without UN mandate] like Iraq and invade with great glee and enthusiasm to bring you "democracy & freedom" on a platter. Freedom in Libya, freedom in Iraq, freedom, freedom everywhere, but....errr... no oil ?...sorry, you can shove it...period..ha ha !

It is Tartus where Russia has its only naval base in the Mediterranean and if they want an influence in the region again which they do then that base is essential and the stupid thing is all this unconditional support for Assad is going to make alot of people unhappy in a post Assad Syria. When the west starts opening their hands and offering to help Syria rebuild etc when its all over they are going to kick the Russians out before they know whats happened. Iran has also got to play this game real careful if they want a role to play still in a post Assad Syria. The smart thing for them to do is dump Assad now, they don't need him and the man is on borrowed time so denounce him say what he has been doing is unacceptable and Iran as a friend of the Syrian people cannot support such a man as Assad.

19. A failure in the UN and a failure now.The only reason he got
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (08.03.12)
the UN job was the brotherly block vote. Under his incompetent leadership hundreds of thousands lost their lives in Rwanda, corruption and back scratching in the UN went unchecked. Just when the UN could not become a bigger farce , it did!
20. Da Poet I Use That One!
(08.03.12)
However in Defence Of Mr. K.Annan His Intensions WERE Comendable.
21. With his track record I want him to stay
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.03.12)
I mean he did such a great job in Rwanda that they made him the General Secretary of the United Nations. I think he should aid in all the Arab on Arab civil wars.
22. lots of crazy ppl
moti ,   usa   (08.03.12)
lots of crazy people like assad............just keep on the killing, kill yourselfs till you all have enough. the arab nations are the biggest war-mongers, saber rattlers and blood spillers to walk this planet. as long its among themselfs its all good
23. Surprise! Annan blames everybody else for his failure
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (08.03.12)
Just like the Arab apologist Guardian blames Israel for Arabs abusing their wives &both sides in Syria bringing in Israel as a scapegoat
24. Once again the UN is useless.
Mark ,   Israel   (08.03.12)
25. Kofi Annan
Moragh   (08.03.12)
His time is long since up. What did he expect? His highly "paid" contract is over... he was useless at whatever he was supposed to do. Nothing more than public tax money down the tube (drain). Bye bye Kofi, you will not be missed. Hope you are finally in retirement!
26. I judged Kofi Annan by
macktheknife   (08.03.12)
his face. I knew way back then that he was and would be useless and my impression paid out to such an extent that I couldn't bare to look at a newspaper photo of him. He's going, I read! but why was he not slung out on his Ass a long time ago? The greed of these so-called politicians in lining their pockets from the poor man is unbelievable. Disban that tribe of blood suckers!
27. The more they off themselves the less we will have to deal
Al   (08.03.12)
with in the future. Its all good. Whoever and whatever replaces ASSAD will be one of the same..an enemy of the Jewish people and nation. There is a god and god bless him.
28. This man is a genius at being consistantly ineffective
Brian ,   London   (08.03.12)
29. Oh my goodness!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.03.12)
Did he fail to come upon a way to give his son a no-show job paying $500,000 plus a year? Well, it isn't as if he hasn't done it in the past! I guess he couldn't find a buyer on either side of the conflict. And that says all that anyone needs to know about him! Certainly explains the "resignation" -- I guess he couldn't find any takers willing to beef up his bank account, or fund his do-nothing's son's. Say "good morning" to the United Nations, folks! And their minions. The fact is that Israel was on the verge of outing his personally-enhancing cash demands. Geez, Louise! A corrupt former Secretary General of the United Nations. Who'd have thunk? Well, I did. So did many others. 'nuff said.
30. Good. There wasn't any need for you there, anyway.
