...he's simply trying to escape the wrath of Assad the Butcher of Damascus?
2. The man shot on the border
Richard Marcuse ,   Canada   (08.04.12)
I wonder how the IDF or the reporter knows that this person is a Syrian citizen!

Then he can seek refuge in a neighboring arab country..Lebanon,Iran,Iraq,Jordan....why go to Israel? They hate Israel, right?

The reason is insignificant....try to cross border=get shot. End of story.
5. #1: Golan Border Not Long
EGGM ,   Petah Tikva, Israel   (08.04.12)
The Golan border is not long. No matter where this man tried to infiltrate, either the Lebanese or the Jordanian border is at most a day's walk away. Both of those countries take in refugees from Syria. We have many reasons not to take them in.

Doesn't matter who he is trying to escape from. Anyone trying illegally to enter Israel is a security risk for all Israeli's. Especially borders surrounding Israel.....
7. #1..then he is a coward..he should be fighting

Let him go to one of the "friendly nations around the area - Turkey or Jordan. If he really wanted to escape and enter Israel he could have asked for refugee status via the UNDOF forces in the area.
9. #1 re. spelling errors in your name
Anti-Invaders   (08.04.12)
Based upon the evident inanity of your post, the letter "L" and the terminal letter "E" are quite superfluous in the spelling of your name/handle! Economy of expression is key!!!

decided to wage war. I have never heard of any country on this planet giving back gained land due to war and security.

One, the Golan is in Israel. Just like other repeat aggressor nations, Syria lost the border region from which it launched attacks and fired on civilians. The Golan was in Mandate in the original agreement, and only removed and given to France illegally, without full and open agreement by all parties concerned. I assure you that Syrian man knew that it was Israeli territory on the other side of that fence. TWO: How on earth will a soldier ever know if a man cutting a fence on a border between two warring states has a weapon, or explosives? The warned him, and disabled him with one non-fatal shot. Thus, you made NO points whatsoever.

1. 4th Geneva Convention of 1949 made it illegal to gain territory through war. 2. UNSCR 497 made the illegal annexation of the Golan Heights null and void.. Per interntaional law (Geneva Convention, UNSCR 497) he was simply going from one part of Syria to another, across an illegal fence. 3. The exact border between the French and British mandate was never determined until 1923. Once determined, it put Golan Heights in the French mandate, which later became Syria.
15. # why didnt he head calls to stop, and surrender to IDF?
