Go back to any point in history and you will find that Israel was conqured at times when religious zeal was at it's height at the cost of protecting its citizens. You have your place in society and we have a duty to protect you in order to keep our faith the best way we can or choose, it doesn't make us less Jewish as it doesn't make you more.

If I may.. No one argues that prayer isn't extremely important - what they object to is, that no one should make a profession or a living from prayer or refusing to serve as do all israeli's in the IDF Israel with the reasoning being 'prayer' and Torah study. ( this is to insinuate that every parent or relative of a soldier serving in the IDF has not prayed and that somehow, magically, only THEIR prayers are heard , what is this, another form of "Animal Farm" for the 'religious?)
