61. Why sacrifice real benefits in the USA for Israel?
American ,   New York, USA   (08.15.12)
OK, so assume Romney is better for Israel. I still prefer to have health care. I still prefer for health insurance companies to not discriminate against me for having a pre-existing condition. I stil prefer to be able to stay under my parents' health insurance until I'm 26 instead of being cut off at 18 or 21. What about me? Should I sacrifice real and concrete benefits under Obama to save Israel (a foreign country with it's own leaders to take care of them)? Even if I am not Jewish and theerfore don't have the option of making aliyah (like 97% of the country) and partaking of the wonderful Israeli health care system? WHY should I do this? Please enlighten me
62. US Punched BiBi
JC001 ,   Baton Rouge Louisian   (08.16.12)
How childish can the author of this tripe be? First off, who cares what Obama is tired of, he doesn't live in Israel. Second, there are a great many of us in the US who are deeply tired of the absolutely irresponsible foreign relations positions that this administration has taken under his ignorent tenure. Third, the General is an idiot! Even if the only thing Israel can do is delay Iran's madness then that might just be long enough for the people of the US to elect a real President because the one we have now is the worst foreign relations ignoramus since Jimmy Carter.
63. I AGREE WITH NACHMAN
Pastor Leo ,   San Diego, CA   (08.16.12)
If Israel waits for the world's approval she might as well jump in the sea herself. G-D is with her. Her strength is in The L-rd G-d Of Israel.
64. Gen.M.Dempsey As Well As L.Penetta
(08.16.12)
Are Just Following Their Chain Of Command. However Israel Has Been Held Under The Thumb For His Entire Term, He Has Disrepected The Prime Minister Benjamin Bibi Netanyahu at every turn. If The chief and commander Was A Man Of His Word? He won't Put Israel and it's People In The Danger That's Been Mounting For His Whole Term, So Bibi Owes b.H.o. NOTHING and Let's Hope American Jews Don't Vote For The same man Who Was Indoctrinated By rev. j. wright and the like of seasoned Anti-Semites!!!!!!!!!!!
65. BLAME NETANYAHU FOR THE FALLOUT.
Nicholas ,   Lagos Nigeria   (08.16.12)
Anyone who followed the politics recently would blame Bibi on this fallout. Bibi is trying to pressure Obama to strike Iran in an election period where if anything goes wrong, Obama is toast. At the same time, Bibi has endorsed Obama's opponent while hoping Obama takes up the strike to alienate his base and energizing Romney's base. Do you think Netanyahu doesn't know what he is doing? Obama on his part is very smart and wouldn't want to repeat the mistake Carter made trusting Israel when he ordered the Iranian rescue mission. Netanyahu shouldn't have involved himself with internal US politics.
66. Misplaced Perceptions!
Jake Stone ,   USA   (08.16.12)
Attila Somfalvi is, apparently, an Obama-loving sychphant. Israel doesn't need Obama and his sodomite military, or the opinions of its, washed-up, Army generals. Everyone seems to forget the most important factor in all of this: God and His Abrahamic Covenant. God WILL destroy all those who come against His people and His land (Jerusalem). Judgment is coming; the world WILL see the power of God in a very intimate way--guaranteed!!! Praying God protects Israel...and destroys their godless enemies. God bless, Israel and His Jerusalem! A Christian Zionist
67. I am Jewish, Israeli and live in Israel.
nibor ,   israel   (08.16.12)
Why do you think you speak for me. Why do you think your point of view is the only one.
68. US is BOSS
Nicbyte ,   South Africa   (08.16.12)
The US is just showing Israel who is the boss. If they wont listen, they have much to lose in US funding..
69. they said the same thing about Iraq
jackjew ,   Brooklyn   (08.16.12)
"dont do it, it will only delay not destroy their nuclear capabilities"... where are Iraq's nukes now??? exactly!
70. Dempsey
Gary ,   Great Neck Usa   (08.16.12)

71. if you wait for u.s. approval, you'll wait until the 12th of
bari ,   nyc usa   (08.16.12)
never! the united states under this president has no foreign policy other than to wine and dine and support the muslim brotherhood. not only incompetent non-leadership in the white house but in the pentagon as well. they are following an idiotic plan in afghanistan. the russians are making fools of us. a russian akula nuclear submarine spent a month in the gulf of mexico, in u.s. waters without being spotted until after it was gone. this is out stellar defense dept about to be gutted even further by obama. the united states is a mess, so if israel is holding out for help from the u.s., i'd suggest you go it alone and do what needs to be done.
72. Israel look to Hashem our G-d
Rinah ,   Ramat Negev   (08.16.12)
If one looks into the darkness the darkness reflects on one, but if one looks into the Light, the Truth one reflects the Light. "Seek and you shall find for it is written" May the Truth reign in our hearts.
73. American #61: Two reasons
Igor ,   Germany   (08.16.12)
First, evil tends to expand until it's stopped by force. See Napoleon, Hitler, USSR... Don't think for a moment Iran would be satisfied by destroying Israel. It wants to be a great power and the leader of the Muslim world. Israel is just one obstacle on this path. But, more importantly, supporting Israel, the only liberal democracy with free market and the rule of law in a sea of corrupt, racist, antisemitic, misogynistic, homophobic dictatorships is morally the right thing to do. You'd also help an unknown woman being raped, wouldn't you?
74. If America decides to let Iran go nuke
Paul Freedman ,   Falls Church, VA   (08.16.12)
Israel will act, no matter how many Jewish left-wingers filled with self-hatred fawn over this or that general's gentile shoe laces.
75. So now what?!
Yeah Right Bud ,   Canada   (08.16.12)
Based on this article, going forward Bibi and Barak have only two options left open to them : the first is to STFU, and by doing so, prove that they never had the nerve or the capability to attack in the first place.....OR...they can finally mount the attack on Iran. Considering that in the middle east option 1 is suicide (and being the middle east, it may be more than just "political" suicide), was it wise of the American General to say what he said? Time will tell.
76. This is no slap only US politics
Alan   (08.16.12)
The fact that several times in recent past top US official have repeated the same statements on the limited capacity of Israel to inflict damage on Iran nuclear installations are a sign that Washington is increasingly worried the attack will take place before the all important November elections & reduce the chances of the incombant administation to remain in power. They also are intended to shift Israel public opinion towards those who oppose the strike for various reasons. Except for Roosevelt no president has been reelected under poor economic conditions as those currently existing in the US. A war with the likelihood of a surge in commodity prices (such as for gasoline) would further reduce the probability of a reelection, So Washington is applying pressure from the outside & trying to raise the pressure from the inside of Israel against an Israeli decision to strike Iran at a time judged very inconvenient.
77. dempsey
david cohen ,   china   (08.16.12)
what qualifies you and the US to talk about israeli capabilities? your "victory" in korea? or vietnam? your final "victory" in iraq? your "victory" in afghanistan? when was the last time that you PERMANENTLY won a war?
78. Ynet is starting to sound like Haaretz in their titles
Rachel ,   USA   (08.16.12)
Israel is a sovereign country and USA knows it.
79. That is what Iran say about the US.
Matt   (08.16.12)
You go to war with the military you have got, if you have time you enhance it. Look at Afghanistan that is what happens when they are left alone to run the wars, chain of command all of that. That was why everyone went through VP Cheney's office, not the chain of command.
80. Israel's strength is in God
Ron ,   New York US   (08.16.12)
And where was this God during the destruction of the Temple, or during the Holocaust. Your example of God's help is very selective.
81. #5 Nachman
DavidR ,   USA   (08.16.12)
Good post! You are absolutely correct. However, there is something you left out. Israel must humble herself and tshuvah and repent of her Torahlessness and her gay parades etc. Then HaShem will hear from heaven and destroy her enemies. Very simple.
82. Playing with fire
Terry ,   USA   (08.16.12)
This has got to be a joke ! Obummer is scared to get his hands burned before election. Oy !..Why should he worry..He is going to lose anyways. Israel do what you got to do and don't be concerned about a loser !
83. #1 mr. wimp
solomon ,   bklyn   (08.16.12)
You wrote this same post in another TB, and then ignored the correct answers you received. So let me remind you: Where do you think the russians got the supplies (ammunition, trucks, materiel) to be able to make their offensive? Look up 'Murmansk convoys'. They weren't easy. They also may not have been able to defeat Hitler if there would have been no western front at the same time. Look up 'Normandy landings'. It was a joint effort. As was the invention of the A-bomb: Jews and non-Jews alike. Enjoy your fantasies. I prefer to live in the real world.
84. #61 You are what is sick in America
Richard ,   USA   (08.16.12)
The Obamaites in America, are self seeking, spoiled brats willing to allow the imposition of crushing debt on their children and grandchildren and risk another genocide against Jews, just so long as they can keep getting their "free stuff." #61 and his ilk are our moral and mental cripples. There are, however, still true citizens who hopefully will come out in sufficient numbers to rid our country of Obama and his hateful, devisive, Chicago thugs.
85. 64
Mark ,   USA   (08.16.12)
What does Obama owe Israel?? He is the President of USA! If Israel is destroyed most Americans wouldn't care except the religious freaks
86. ness gadol haya tam
beneliezer   (08.16.12)

87. US, partners of Iran
MICHEL ,   Ashkelon   (08.16.12)
Finally there is not a big difference between the says of the Iranian tyrans and our "friends"
88. Strange piece of crap
Annette ,   israel   (08.16.12)
This guy got all that from the one line "Israel can "delay but not destroy Iran's nuclear capabilities," Okaaaaaay....looks like someone's got their own issue to deal with.
89. the same thing was said on Iraq
Golan ,   modiin   (08.16.12)
and they were wrong
90. A slap but an irresponsible one
Merav ,   Israel   (08.16.12)
No one thinks we can destroy utterly Iran's nuclear capability --even in 2005 that possibility had already passed. The point is to hit them hard enough that their progress is delayed. Dempsey's remark was a slap in the face all right but not the slap of a responsible adult but rather a continuation of the Obama administration's undermining of its allies. This was a 'protect Obama until he can be re-elected' move. Four more years of Obama in the White House is nearly as dangerous to our region as Iran being all nuke ready.
