1. But this time, it's ok, because it's not a secular Mubarak.
Iranian Hunter   (08.16.12)
But a TROO MOOSLEEM ruling in Egypt, shariah laws, harassing non muslims. Want to built a grand tao temple ? grand buddhist temple ? church ? Good luck !
2. Excuse me for laughing ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.16.12)
... but did anyone really think that the Moslem Brotherhood had any intention of democratizing Egypt? You watch -- things will rapidly get far worse. Far, far worse. Soon, most Egyptians will rue the day that Mubarak was overthrown. Get ready for the imposition of Sharia law, including dress and education (or absence thereof) codes. That's coming next.
3. Democracy is not about having elections, I said it before
Jacob Erickson ,   Holon, Israel   (08.16.12)
Any country can have democratic elections. That does not make someone a democracy. Hamas was elected democratically, Hitler was elected democratically. It's not about the election itself, it's about 2 things afterwards. The first is what they do with their term. If they exclude other parties (or execute them in the street like Hamas), and if you follow the will of the people that elected you. The second is how you handle the transfer of power after someone is elected at the end of your term. So it doesn't matter if you are elected in a democratic manner, but what happens after. So time will tell here.
4. The Lord Gives and the Lord Taketh away
Tarbouche ,   Aswan   (08.16.12)
New Manure different smell
5. It was obvious from the start
Ted   (08.16.12)
Only that the mob could not see reason - and now they get in return someone worst than Mubarak.
6. Obama should wake up by now
Natan   (08.16.12)
He was SO naive to believe that this so called revolution would lead to democracy. He was SO wrong in not supporting Mubarak in the critical hours and indirectly helped to usher a worst dictator to Egypt. And now Obama can do nothing to help Egypt come back to their better state.
7. Israel fears Arab Democracy, wants "Puppet Dictators" back
Steven Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (08.16.12)
8. $ 3000 GDP deserves dictatorship
Nora Tel Aviv   (08.16.12)
Democracy and $3000 GDP are not compatible. Thanks to islamism it is easy to revert democratic elections to Morsi-for-life election.
9. French Proverb-More things change, the more they remain same
Alan ,   SA   (08.16.12)
10. A perfect solution for Egypt's problem.
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (08.16.12)
In the Museum of Egypt nr. 1 attraction is the mumia of II. Ramses pharao. First step : a careful DNA analisys from the mumia. Second step : all egyptian citizens are obligated for state sponsored DNA analisys. Finally : if all 82 millions are checked a scientific comission from Egypt's leading genetics finds the person, whose DNA is nearest for those II. Ramses one. And here is the winner , the new head of state, XXIV. Hadjmaphuteph pharao !
11. "Arab Spring" - from the frying pan to the fire...
Scott ,   Haifa   (08.16.12)
Isaiah 19:4 And the Egyptians I will give Into the hand of a cruel master, And a fierce king will rule over them,” Says the Lord, the Lord of hosts.
12. Meet the new boss. WORSE than the old boss.
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (08.16.12)
As it happens, just last week I was reading Erik Larson's "In the Garden of Beasts" chronicling the early days of Nazi rule in Germany. In 1934 we saw what became known as the "Night of the Long Knives" when Hitler's operatives arrested and often executed hundreds of potential challengers to his authority. Last week we witnessed something quite similar. Since then we're seeing not just an increase in Egypt's military presence with Israel's consent, but increases WITHOUT such consent, a clear violation of the peace treaty. Egypt is counting on Israeli reticence to raise a stink over this due to the "sensitivity" of the issue. And soon enough, the treaty will be what Sadat once called it - a piece of paper.
13. #7 little stevie You Know You Really Are A
(08.16.12)
SCHMUCK, Name one arab country Which Is Democracy? The arab way of democracy Is Hold elections and if the Powers That Be Don't Like The Results THEY JUST HIJACK The election and install Their man. New? Case in point Look at the persian arabs Thats Exactly What They Did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They reinstalled the little bearded monkey.
14. arab ph.ds and mds
ishamel   (08.16.12)
arabs go west to get their higher education like morsi did to obtain a ph.d. which involved numerous subjects and a research project. Zohar likewise studied medicine. Ahamadinejad claims to have a ph.d. in transportation engineering and if proved genuine so he does. Yet all these guys when they return to their home countries do not make rational sense, not at all. because they are governed by their political ideology in which takiyeh is justifieed, lyin, half truths, and use of extreme satanic languish-cut off your head, burn the ground, destroy you is encouraged. Morsi is not stupid but like nasser or sadat he will misjudge israel and underestimate it. Israelis will not be the only ones to suffer. Egyptians if they start up with israelis will suffer more than they know.
15. #6 Natan Or.......
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (08.16.12)
Obama et al. called Tantawi and the other senior military commanders and told them to behave......and they'll receive a nice pension and live happily ever after.
16. #10 Istvan.....LOL ..good one!
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (08.17.12)
.......and hope it's not one of those geezers chasing after you at the Pyramids trying to sell you a 'banana leaf' papyrus for 'less than he bought it.'
17. Truth and Egyptian Culture
shrinkDave ,   Miami USA   (08.17.12)
are mutually exclusive-one has no connection to the other. When one is born in Egypt, something happens to the portion of the brain allocated to association with reality. For some reason, they become afflicted with D-Nile. Oy.
18. Egypt gets the government they chose, a Muslim dictatorship
John ,   NZ   (08.17.12)
19. Ignorance of Cultural History
Tom W ,   USA   (08.17.12)
The Western concept of Democracy originated in the Enlightenment (1650-1800) and gradually became the primary form of government. In those countries where the Enlightenment's philosophy never took hold - like Russia - true democracy with all of its institutions never established itself. Not then, not now. This is an iron clad axiom that cannot be refuted. Erudite and discerning minds are conscious of said fact but the political establishment and zealous ideologues are not. Neither Russia nor the 3rd. world will follow Voltaire or Rousseau theses. The American political establishment is not known to be immersed in Cultural World History, which is why most of their action is bordering on naiveté or sheer ignorance and derision.
20. Nonsense, Egypt finally is moving toward
Tzvi   (08.17.12)
democracy where the military is under the rule of the civilian elected goverement. Of course Israel will not like any such moves since the majority population in all countries surrownding Israel do not exactly like them put it gently... Tough life, maybe its time for Israel to take second look and try figure how to develop freindly and neigborly relation with its neighbors insted of dicatating and disregarding...just a thought...
21. Somebody should have predicted this
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.17.12)
Oh wait somebody did - I said this would be the exact result only 18 months ago. Now will come the genocide and ethnic cleansing of the Copts. Will Egypt survive - I do not believe that it will, but even I can be surprised,
22. Its a cynical use of democratic process
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (08.17.12)
when politicians seek election with the trust of the people , for the exclusive purpose of disolving that democracy. The reason it has to be islam, is because within its rules , its permissible to lie , cheat , murder sell drugs for jihad.
23. There will be war!
John Prophet   (08.17.12)
For all those in israel and around the world who are against an israel attack on Iran, what do you think will happen if Israel does nothing? Do you think Israel will live happily ever after?     Have you not been watching Israel’s enemy arming to the teeth while surrounding her? Have you not heard their threats to destroy Israel. It’s time for all you wishful thinkers to wake up from your coma. There is evil in this world and it wants to perpetrate a second holocaust, finish the work of Hitler but this time with atomics. What do all of you who are wringing your hands think Hitler would have done if he had the bomb. If anyone who is reading this says nothing, then go about your merry way because you’re totally clueless and clearly delusional. The longer Israel waits the worse the outcome for Israel becomes. There will be war, and it best be fought on Israel’s terms.
24. can you feel the stormclouds of war in the air?
jack bauer   (08.17.12)
they are obvious to all but the people that support peres
25. we dont need economic cooperation Obama will give handouts
zionist forever   (08.17.12)
Obama has already written off $1billion worth of Egyptian debt and gave Egypt hundreds of millions after he ditched Mubarak to compensate the country for lost income from tourism as a result of their little revolution Now Egypt is asking the IMF & US to give about another $5 billion and I am sure President spend, spend spend will be more than happy to give it. Good for Egypt but a shame for Israel and the US but looks like we are going to have another four years of Obama unless either Romney can pull something special out the hat or Obama screws up big time.
26. Dictatorship
Nic ,   South Africa   (08.17.12)
Like I said, better the devil you know then the Devil you don't. Egypt will learn that lesson very very soon.
27. To: No. 7
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.17.12)
Care to explain what in anything Morsi has done since assuming office so much as vaguely resembles democracy? The hallmark of a democracy is a free forum for ideas and an unchained press. Did you miss the part of the articles that describes what Morsi has done with respect to newspapers? You are so consumed with hatred for the State of Israel, it has blinded you to the truth of what is happening in Egypt. You're a fool.
28. 3
zionist forever   (08.17.12)
I agree with you totally although as far as I am concerned as long as the Egyptian government doesn't launch any wars against Israel and stops Sinai becoming a terrorist haven then I couldn't care less if Egypt turns out to be a real democracy or a dictatorship. What the arabs do in their country is their business to me all I care about is how it affects Israel.
29. MANY DECADES the West FAILED to help Islam DETOTALITARIZE.
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (08.17.12)
30. To ol' Stevie (little boy) Benassi!
Jake Stone ,   USA   (08.17.12)
Again, your logic proves your ignorance. I'm sure you got that from your liberal parents. Yeah, that rotten apple doesn't fall far from that rotten tree! Keep-up your little musings...they make me laugh...!
