1. A shame but,
Big bad Jew ,   United States   (08.19.12)
with all those missiles being fired from Gaza and the myriad of pal attacks on Israeli Jews... is anyone really surprised that such things happen in response to the pals violence? Might be a good time for the pals to move from israel.
2. Lynching
NYC Girl   (08.19.12)
While the attack on these young men was certainly violent and unacceptable, it was not a lynching. Lynching is a very specific term which describes an attempt to murder the victim by hanging. However, this incident was a beating pure and simple.....but definitely not a lynching. Perhaps it's time to stop using this sort of irresponsible and hyperbolic terminology just because the alleged perpetrator is a Jew and the victim is an Arab.
3. Police policy is to arrest anyone standing there at the time
Saul   (08.19.12)
I've witnessed it many times where Israeli secular police arrest innocent passersby.
4. Let's hear about the woman who died after Arabs stoned
Saul   (08.19.12)
MDA medics or is it that you don't report news where Jewish women are killed are injured when Arabs attack?
5. to #1
RM ,   Amsterdam NL   (08.19.12)

6. Well he would say that wouldn't he
Alex   (08.19.12)
7.  @1 A Shame It' s a Shame
Lou ,   Bucharest, Romania   (08.19.12)
and such young people should have known better!
8. haf the attackers been arabs
Jan ,   Germany   (08.19.12)
everyone quite naturally would speak of a terror attack. And probably, some of them would be dead by now. Not that I wish that to anyone involved, but there clearly are double standards.
9. Less we forget dozens of jews attack 3 Arabs. what are the
BDS   (08.19.12)
odds anyone is arested. 50 to 1?
10. @1 u may b big, bad & Jewish, but from here u look stupid!
Israel ,   Israel   (08.19.12)
I mean really let's revisit your opinion within an American context: with all those attacks against USA servicemen in Afghanistan and the myriad of Iraqi attacks on USA servicemen...is anyone really surprised that American civilians are firing weapons on college campuses and in movie theaters in Colorado? Might be a good time for the Americans to give the USA back to the Indians and move back to Europe. See sounds really really stupid within USA context...sounds even stupider within an Israeli context!
11. it is possibly, but not probably that
observer ,   Egypt   (08.19.12)
"they would check security camera footage". With that opinion, I would bet a million that the assailant were not Jewish ones.
12. #3, that's being in the WRONG place at WRONG time, Police
hot snow ,   tlv   (08.19.12)
always do that. NOT only in israel. sorry !
13. US now lists West Bank "price tag" attacks as terrorism
Steven Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (08.19.12)
This attack was not in the West Bank but there seems to be an increase in violence against Palestinians ever since the war drums on Iran started a few years ago. Israel must make peace, or Obama will do it for them. '67 borders must be realized, Jews and Arabs must live together peacefully in Palestine Israel. The world cannot afford a nuclear war.
14. Self0hating secular Jews have show more anger when
(08.19.12)
Arabs are wounded by Jews than Jews killed by Arabs where such stories don't even get reported.
15. To: #2
I Love Fanatics ,   Ohio, USA   (08.19.12)
Lynching usually means (in the U.S.) death by hanging. But the full definition can mean any death by a mob. The word really doesn’t apply here because the victim didn’t die. On the other hand, the word may apply here because ‘lynching’ also means an attack where the victim was picked out at random in order to intimidate a population (aka a racist attack).
16. Israel society
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.19.12)
The attack was totally unacceptable. The fact that: "...hundreds witnessed the assault.", and didn't intervene is also totally unacceptable. What has our society turned into? Yom Kippur is some weeks off, but a bit of self introspection can be done at any time - and now is the time. Israelis - let us return to our ideals!
17. When an Arab attacks a Jew
Avramele   (08.19.12)
When an Arab attacks a Jew for what police call nationalist reasons I mourn for the harm done and worry for the security of my people. When my fellow Jew attacks a similarly innocent Arab for the same reasons I mourn for the harm done and also worry for the soul of my people.
18. #1 Arabs ARE Israelis and Israel IS Arab too
Gregg ,   Haifa IL   (08.20.12)
About time you shove it
19. To: No. 15
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.20.12)
So, does that mean the next time some Arab thugs randomly select an automobile driven by a Jew and pelt it with boulders, they're guilty of a lynch? According to your definition, it does. And since those attacks happen on a daily basis, the news media should report those Arab attacks upon Jews as lynches, right?
20. Not usual Jewish teen behavior
DEG ,   USA   (08.20.12)
I am sure the ARab kids taunted them or something. Called the names. Jewish kids do not go around lynching people. This is absurd.
21. Wrong is wrong no matter who is doing it.
elizabethlynne ,   Dallas, Texas!   (08.20.12)
Anytime that citizens are attacked as they are just trying to live their lives, it's a crime and wrong. It is inexcusable whether the attackers are Arabs or Jews. It's wrong. My heart ached when I read that this Arab man was attacked when he went out just to shop for holiday clothes. It's heartbreaking. It cannot be justified; it is wrong. This hatred has to stop.
22. Reply to #14
elizabethlynne ,   Dallas, Texas!   (08.20.12)
No, I'm not a self-hating Jew; I am a Jew who expects other Jews to behave in a kind, compassionate and civilized way to everyone. I am deeply ashamed that Jews would commit these crimes and that other Jews would justify it. I hate it when Jews are attacked, and I have compassion for anyone who suffers such an attack---for anyone, Arabs or Jews. No one should suffer that misfortune. Where is your heart?
23. something doesn't add up here
naava ,   jerusalem   (08.20.12)
A 17 year old boy with his friends, is injured in what looks like a street fight. You know the kind teen age kids get into. There are supposedly 13 year old boy and 15 year old girl, and some 17 year olds..both sides. The language of the mother of the injured kid tells me a lot. What she said is not what happens in this country. Arabs attack jews violently and continuously ...day in and day out. Almost never do you hear of it. Seldom is anything done about it. Her son doesn't remember if there were Jews or not. What were his friends doing when he was being beaten up...You can't tell me a 13 year old boy & 15 yr old girl can overpower a bunch of 17 year olds. Seems like a street fight became political.
24. I totally condemn the violence but the truth is
a Jerusalemite   (08.20.12)
That east Jerusalem Arabs ruined the city center for me. No fun for me to walk anymore in the city center when 50% of the people there are Arabs. In addition, the shop vendors, waitresses, pharmacists, bus drivers, light rail drivers are Arabs. I don't feel I'm in Israel anymore. They took over everything. You can't sit in your old time Israeli (Jewish owned) coffee shop and have a Jewish waiter anymore. The one that takes your order is Muhamed or Hasan or Rim, No more Danni or Keren. Where did all the Jewish employees go? And all around you the new comers - east Jerusalem Arabs who had a first taste of croissants and Israeli coffee and now they can't get enough of it. I understand that the Arabs also need jobs and have a right to have fun but their numbers.... and their attitude... as if they are the founders of west Jerusalem, built it and lived their all their lives. The way they look in hostility at Israeli soldiers walking on Ben Yehuda. I don't like all these young Arab men sitting on benches all day long staring at girls in a harassing manner. I don't like their shouts, I don't like hearing Arabic everywhere and sharing my part of the city with people who I don't feel are part of Israel (many of them don't recognize Israel as a Jewish state or don't even have an Israeli citizenship). Having said all that I think that they should NOT be harassed in anyway. There's nothing we Jews can do about this new unfortunate reality in Jerusalem. The east Jerusalem Arabs discovered west Jerusalem and NOTHING will prevent them from coming in masses.
25. #18: Arabs are not the ones who built Israel
(08.20.12)
The Israeli Arabs are what remained of the Arabs of Palestine. Israel was built despite them and unfortunately for them. They never contributed anything to Israel, on the contrary. They are Israelis but not really part of what Israel is all about and what made Israel what it is.
26. Jerusalem lynch suspect: I was detained for no reason
Corinna ,   Netanya   (08.20.12)
Two very important issues this article has brought to light - 1 - Jewish teenage violence getting much much worse and 2. The police are not dependable - no one respects them - they are doing a terrible job
27. to NYC Girl #2; it's terrorist attempted murder
observer ,   Egypt   (08.20.12)
as price tag act, it is terror attack by US definition. Hitting the head of the victim several time is nothing but attempted murder. For the first time the US condemns the terror act regardless of the perpetrator.
28. Well ...
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.20.12)
If the detainees are indeed guilty, their DNA will be all over the victim. Take some cheek swabs; let's see the results. Seems to me someone who travels all the way to Jerusalem to buy clothes (at night?) needs to work on his story.
29. A pity...
Concerned Australian ,   Melbourne, Australia   (08.20.12)
Jews... Arabs... Why can't both sides just be PEOPLE? Islamic States... Jewish States... Why can't your combined peoples simply be a NATION? I know I come from outside both your cultures, but I find you gain more perspective outside the box than from inside. What you do to each other is inhuman, and there is absolutely no need for any of it.
30. To number 24.
Aaron ,   Tel Aviv   (08.20.12)
You don't want E. Jerusalem Arabs in W. Jerusalem. Then why did Israel have to occupy and annex E. Jerusalem. I think both parties are happier being separated and segregated.. Give E. Jerusalem back to the W. Bank and PA and be done with it. Build a wall between E. Jerusalem and W. Jerusalem and we can have detente again. We will all like it better. End the entire occupation once and for all. Security is not an issue. Israel is 100 times as powerful as the Palestinians....they are no threat. We created an imagined threat so we can occupy and steal their land and resources. Shame on us in Israel!
