1. also corruption
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (08.20.12)
It is not just politics, it is apparently also the worst kind of corruption. As reported in the press, the head of the Israel Bar Association became very rich from advertising the use of these poor women. The press reported that when the Bar investigated, he declared that it was his wife who ran the advertising business, and he did not realize and never questioned where her millions came from. The press reported that the Bar accepted his explanation, and he got away without punishment.
2. Regulations, bans, soon Iran to come...
Alex   (08.20.12)
Is the least we need. Not that such a ban would affect me since I've never used any such services. Get to the root of the problem of trafficking instead, which is Russian mobs. And seriously you're comparing to... Sweden? Norway? Iceland... Seriously, they're one step from being as regulated as Iran (I know that from having lived there.) "We deserve a government defined by its will to serve and protect its citizens. We deserve a government that understands that progress, however difficult to achieve, should be vigorously pursued." - Who? Shas? United Torah Judaism? I'm sure they'd gladly forbid that and many other freedoms in our society. So, what do you say, let's start making Israel fully halachic, huh?
3. Good work, bad language
Nonprogressive ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.20.12)
By using the language of the far left, e.g."progressive" and "regressive", you undercut your own efforts and your own argument. This kind of language politicizes a cause that should reach across the political spectrum. Keep up the good work, but please try not alienate those of us who don't see the world in politically correct leftist terms.
4. Forbid it ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.20.12)
Doing so makes it only more working in secrecy , with less possibilities to control it . People who want such "services" will always find a way to receive them . In other countries , the Netherlans and Belgium it's a more "open" businness , police can control it much better . I had a friend , police officer , who worked in such a neighborhood . He told me that the women there saw them as protectors against pimps . Others think that by forbiding this "businness" the risk of rapes will increase .
5. who was the mystery caller.
Ilana   (08.20.12)
I will also send him lettres. Who cares about the "language"?? It is the issue that is important! REally!
6. To: No. 3
Bertram ,   London, UK   (08.20.12)
A little oversensitive, are we not? Since when has 'progressive' been the property of the 'far left'? In this context I would have thought it suggests 'going forward' for the betterment of society? There might well be disagreement as to what constitutes progress but to label the notion as 'leftist' betrays your somewhat narrow understanding of politics. I can conclude that 'leftist' refers to any political position which you do not like.
7. 4 Charles your post makes sense.

8. Tax The Hell Out Of It
emanon ,   USA   (08.20.12)
If you can't make it illegal, tax it and regulate it to death. make it so expensive no one can afford it. Failure to get the proper licensing will result in imprisonment and huge fines. If the girls are not given proper medical care, the establishment is shut down. Violence against the workers is punishable by hard time and huge fines. Give the workers a union with rights to salary and limits to the hours worked. I'm not thrilled with this plan, but it has worked for other countries.

11. I'd like to know too who the caller was.
OUTRAGED! ,   Israel   (08.20.12)
Its about POLITICS??? How absurd can you get! Its about justice! Moralty! Is he saying that the KIDNAP and USE of CHILDREN is a POLITICAL ISSUE? He won't feel that way if his daughter gets kidnapped, locked in an apartment in TA and used and abused by 2 20 men a day, where she gets NO pay, and NO SAY as to what is happening to her. They often end up dead. These pimps use them up then snuf them because they can identify them. And, I would oddly have to say: a one time rape is better than imprisonment and raped 20 times a day for years.
12. Virtual Mafia State
Zivron   (08.20.12)
Lets hope our little Mafia state can deal with iran with its Full Feral Powers.
13. u want that Israelis cannot buy sex?
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (08.21.12)
ok, so what's good for the gander will become good for the goose. We'll legislate that Israelis cannot receive funds or housing or support-in-kind from a spouse or "friend". Makes just as much sense as your idea. We'll just take your ideas to their logical conclusion. PS: the hotels in Aqaba will be happy about your new law!
14. Israel listed as Tier 1, supposed to be listed as Tier 2

15. State Dept. elevates Israel to top tier in human trafficking
Steven Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (08.21.12)
...assessment." "June 20, 2012 WASHINGTON (JTA) -- The United States elevated its human trafficking assessment of Israel to full compliance with minimum international standards. "The Government of Israel fully complies with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking," said the Israel chapter in the State Department report released Tuesday evening. "The Israeli government sustained strong law enforcement actions against sex trafficking and strong overall prevention efforts during the year." That qualified Israel for a Tier 1 classification, the highest accorded by the State Department's assessors. Israel since 2007 had been classified as Tier 2, which means "not yet compliant, but taking great strides." Prior to 2007 it was on the Tier 2 watch list, which put Israel at risk of being classified as Tier 3 -- a country that shows no signs of compliance with any of the minimum standards."
16. Consenting adults have the right to do whatever they want.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.21.12)
The law championed by the author is authoritarian and has no place in a democracy. Consenting adults have the right to do whatever they want. This law deserves to be vigorously opposed by everyone who cherishes freedom.
17. 16 Chaim,not sure that both are..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (08.21.12)
consenting.
18. 7 Charles add. At the condition..

HW2012 ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (08.21.12)
I don't know if any of you are aware but we're talking about human beings & not commodities. They're being treated as commodities & most often are not consenting in the slightest. Most prostitutes start against their will and underage (the average age of initiation is 13). SO, instead of acting like they are just a sale item to be moderated, maybe think of your own daughters who could just "disappear" & the police decide it's not of public interest to find them & then you find years later she was stuck in a room in Tel Aviv servicing people, knowing if she walks out she gets a bullet in the head!
20. Ora , 17 & 18
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.21.12)
In our birth town , where they are now allowed to work only in three or four streets , no more downtown , many , or even most , women work for their own pocket . So they are consenting . That's what my friend told me . If it is allowed , why should the police have to close an eye ?
21. 20 Charles,to close an eye at the...

mistreatments against these poor girls.
22. 21 , read what i wrote

and try to understand it .
23. outlawing prostitution is not enough!
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (08.22.12)
the valiant feminists should get what they are secretly searching for..... a government salary. Let's set up these feminists as an Auxiliary of the rabbinate. No marriage without permission from the Feminist Corps! I had a phone call that told me that lots of girls are being forced into marriages against their will. Let's get some control over these free-will marriages!
24. Israel must not allow such a law.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.22.12)
Adults can make up their own minds about what they want or don't want to do. They don't need, and shouldn't tolerate, being ruled by radical feminists and their destructive agenda. Israel must not allow such a law.

Nonprogressive ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (08.22.12)
Thank you for your ad hominem attack and for betraying your own prejudices. You've made a great contribution to the discussion and can be proud of your deep understanding of the mindset and capabilities of someone you've never met. Maybe you can share with the rest of us the secret of your telepathy.
26. To No. 25
Bertram ,   London, UK   (08.22.12)
No telepathy - merely responding to words on the page. Improving policies to combat sex trafficking is good - yes? We could agree it would be progress - yes? So, a progressive move - yes? So, what is with this 'leftist' language nonsense?
27. to no 26
Ryan ,   Austin, TX   (08.30.12)
the term "progressive" is universally understood by conservatives as "liberal." The meaning of a communication is the response you get. It doesn't matter if it has a different meaning, if a person doesn't read it that way, you've failed in communicating. Also political parties tend to cherry pick the terms they use. for example, in response to "pro life" people who are against abortion, pro abortion people chose "pro choice" over the directly opposite "pro death." In most political talk "progressive" is used only to mean a liberal agenda and "regressive" is a backhanded way of insulting conservatives. Don't try and play dictionary.
28. slavery
