1. SHELTERS SHOULD BE READY!!!
Bob K ,   Orlando USA   (08.20.12)
Immediately accessible, clean shelters should be one of the Homefront Commands first priotities,. Kiryat Shmona is very well prepared, having suffered thousands of rockets since 1968. Why not everywhere else? Get personal belonhings out of there now. Peparation saves lives! Israel has been targeted with over 20,000 rockets and mortars from Gaza since 2001 and many thousands of katyusha rockets from lebanon since 1968, including over 4000 in the 2006 Lebanon war. , It should be obvious shleters must be ready for use and every adult should know how to get immediate access. Of course most of central Israel has been spared most rocket attacks but the writing has been on the wall for 10 years. Scouts motto: BE PREPARED!
2. shelters are also converted to apartments nowadays

I live in an old building so there is no fortified room just a bomb shelter which has I believe illegally been converted into apartments so its absolutely useless as a bomb shelters. I actually asked a friend who is a lawyer about it and he told me its illegal but not unusual because the authorities are not that bothered. The plans I have in place is to go to a local hotel if there was a problem because you know a hotel will have a large shelter and fit for use. I have also prepared for the possibility of an attack by putting together a box a gas mask, bottled water, tinned food, medical kit, roll of duck tape, flashlight, pocket knife and clockwork radio. Hopefully it will never be needed but best to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. As central Israel has never been under real threat before apart from 1991 when Saddam Hussain fired his Scuds so how many people have ever considered the idea of preparing for war?
3. Preparing for war...@#2
Belinda ,   Texas, USA   (08.21.12)
Unfortunately there are precious few that even think it's a remote possibility and even fewer have done anything to prepare. I think the biggest reason, at least here in the US, is because there are SO MANY people that are just not listening. Just like a bunch of sheep!!
4. I predict the first time they are needed

they will will be quickly made usable, including apartments created out of public space. I can clearly see Israelis opening these places up and tearing out anything inside before quickly cleaning and getting it ready. When people are in an urgent situation they become pretty focused.
5. @1 & 2 I'm just kissin' me bumm good bye!

Lets assume there was an attack on Iran, the government is not going to announce in advance and say clear out the shelters because we are attacking Iran. First thing anybody would know about it is when the sirens ring and we wait for the rockets to fall and by that time its to late to clear the places out, whole point of a bomb shelter is your supposed to be able to quickly run down there not wait a day for it to be cleared out. Shelters which have been converted into apartments are not fit for use and never can be. They are no longer structurally sound enough to serve as a bomb shelter because windows have been created and heavy steel doors replaced by regular front door and of course as its somebodies home its full of domestic clutter and wouldn't even be enough room for other residents of the building. The government needs to introduce new legislation regarding the maintenance of bomb shelters both public municipal ones ( during Lebanon it was found the bulk of public ones were not fit for use ) and private ones in residential buildings.
