1. Shia Islam is more anti women than Sunni
Iranian Hunter   (08.20.12)
People always say Saudi arabia is worse than Iran. But this is a false way of looking thing. Iran is the first Islamist government, not saudi. Believe it or not the government of saudi arabia is secular while the wahhabi body is the one that is religious. Iran on another hand, is ruled by religious shia leader. The only difference between Iran and Saudi is Iranian women can drive. That is it, the rest are the same because both of them are reading the same book, quran, hadith (although shia have a little difference in hadith).
2. where is the flytilla now to Iran, oh noone is paying for it
jericho ,   ca   (08.20.12)
3. People should know that certain countries have certain
Arash ,   Tehran-Iran   (08.20.12)
Laws...No room for complaining. If they don't like the idea, they can get on board the first plane and LEAVE!!!!!! Apart from that, anyone is welcome to stay so long as they abide by the law.
4. PS: Feminism had, nor will it have a place in Iran
Arash ,   Tehran-Iran   (08.20.12)
5. is that a COMPATITION with SHAS ??
hot snow ,   tlv   (08.20.12)
6. Let the "men" keep running things in Iran
A ,   Belgium   (08.20.12)
they're ruining the country irrepairably. The women can hopefully defect to civilized countries like the US and Israel, where their scholastic talents would be well appreciated. Iran, as it is today, may quietly go to hell.
7. Can't wait ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.20.12)
... to see what Persian kitty and Mahmood have to say about this. Let's have an informal poll: which scenario are those two apologists for the Islamic regime most likely to fall back upon: (i) this is a Zionist plot; or (ii) this is a Mossad ddisinformation campaign?
8. Not much of a man, this Iranian man
HaifaGuy   (08.20.12)
The mullas are spot on: their ship is leaking through the multiple cracks and they are doing the predictable thing, namely, trying to seal those cracks. Yet their efforts are doomed to failure as the cracks are too many and too wide. What the mullas refuse to recognize is the fact that the whole ship is no longer seaworthy. As the saying goes: "Stubborn as a mulla" )))
9. Human rights
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (08.20.12)
So much for human rights in Iran. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
10. Are there some parallels with haredi culture?
Runner1983 ,   USA   (08.20.12)
The Haredim prohibit secular education of both boys and girls beyond the elementary school level. Fundamentalist cultures and religions are afraid of what their followers might learn, or learn to think for themselves. This is a threat to the religious leaders whose major objective in life is holding onto power and influence over their followers.
11. now wouldn't you israelis
european   (08.20.12)
like to have this in your country? you can, and you will. just continue with gender discrimination and segregation. you're on the right path.
12. TE IRANIAN CRIMINAL DICTATORSHIP.
SJOERD VAN DER VELDE ,   HOORN NH, HOLLAND   (08.20.12)
WHEN WILL THE IRANIAN SHITE, ISLAM DICTATORSHIP COMES TO AN END? AND EVERY OTHER ONE? IT IS A SHAME/CRIME/THREAT/DANGER/DISASTER FOR/TO THE ENTIRE WORLD-POPULATION/MANKIND.
13. To: No. 10
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.20.12)
You fail to appreciate that there is a world of difference between ultra-Orthodox Jews and Orthodox Jews. The population to which you refer are ultra-Orthodox and constitute a very small percentage of Israel's Jewish population. Two ultra-Orthodox sects, which are opposed to the State of Israel because it was not brought about by Messianic delivery -- the Neturei Karta and the Satmer -- are largely responsible for the social issues you describe. Mainstream Jews do not even consider them to be Jewish. But please do not lump all Haredim into one group which marches in lockstep. That is not the case at all.
14. #3/4 - Arash
Yael ,   United States   (08.20.12)
Obviously countries have laws, but that doesn't make them okay. My country (the United States) practiced brutal chattel slavery until fairly recently, not to mention all of the anti-women laws and customs we had and still have. But the women of the US fought tooth and nail for our rights and will continue to fight. Do not underestimate the power of women united for a cause. I hope and believe that our sisters in Iran will not stand for this injustice - and they should know that American women are behind them 100% in their struggle. Everyone who knows the history of Iran knows that feminism DOES have and HAS had a place in Iranian society, and the ample literature of educated Iranian women living in diaspora attests to that fact. And the women of the world will not forget that. And feminism will see the sun in Iran again. You are on the wrong side of history my friend.
15. To # 1, in Islam men’s is supreme and women’s is slave,
E,M Jordan is Pale ,   SF   (08.20.12)
And not any difference between Shia and Sunni regarding how to behaving with women’s ,any way the people whom had chooses that religion deserve also those rules too .
16. Religion works its wicked way
Haim ,   TA   (08.20.12)
17. It is simply affirmative Action - promoting equality.
Ron ,   Melbourne Australia   (08.21.12)
For all you bigots out there. This is a clear case of affirmative action. Since women are slightly more then 50% percent in Iran and given the outnumbering of 3 to 2 is counter to and egalitarian society. The Iran authorities are simply good old socialists who have gone too far.
18. It's all irrelevant anyway......
Robert ,   Australia   (08.21.12)
.....as if Sarah B. has her way Iran will be a "Glowing cinder" soon, women included.
19. UN probe the "non aligned" club? They will push through
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (08.21.12)
another motion condemning Israel in the UN, their UN affiliates and the other Human Rights political poker players. The EU & US keep paying for it.
20. @3 But You Won't Let Them Leave
emanon ,   USA   (08.21.12)
What about all those laws about unaccompanied women? And what about exit visas? That makes it real hard for women to leave, doesn't it? You know no male dominator is going to allow his slave to leave the house without his permission or without being accompanied by a minder. Your promote a system of servitude that is illegal in civilized countries.
21. What hell it must be to be a muslim woman...
Big bad Jew ,   United States   (08.21.12)
Iran advertises it's chauvinistic ways ? Why not, Iran is also the sole sponsor of mass murdering muslims. What's denying their women educations that elevate their own children for their futures?? Good grief, this aint no way to run a nation.
22. # 15 There is a movie named "Teeth" have you seen it?
Big bad Jew ,   United States   (08.21.12)
It proposes the notion that women grow teeth in their vaginas... I think if it were indeed a fact, men would be less willing to commit rape... muslim women have less freedoms than stray dogs.. The first human rights lost in muslim nations are that of women. hmm, I wonder if all muslim women were armed, would they garner more respect?
23. #3 arash, #15 e
solomon ,   bklyn   (08.21.12)
#3 - Women can't leave even if they wanted to. #15 - Most were born into the religion without choosing it and are now kept from choosing so We're not as blind as you think. You are blinder than some of us imagined.
24. Iranian men are busy bashing Jews while women read textbooks
Adolf ,   Germany   (08.21.12)
Men in Iran keep busy reading Koran while women reading science textbooks. They don't like people who are smarter than them -- that is why they hate Jews and their own women.
25. Congrats To The Twenty Something's
(08.21.12)
Of the persian territories, Your supremeless lead no where, will take you kids back to the jurasic period. It must be nice to be a women in persian arab lands?
26. To: No. 18
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.21.12)
Civilization would be the big winner in that event. Got a problem with that, or do you think there is something so inviting about Iran's so-called "culture" that it is worth preserving and imposing elsewhere? Me, personally -- I really do not wish to go back to the seventh century. You, on the other hand, are free to move to Iran tomorrow, if you wish.
27. Keep them barefoot and pregnant too for good measure.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (08.21.12)
