1. It's not a bad thing

The PET might be a bit more rigorous than America's SAT and achievement exams, but it is nowhere near as difficult as the French baccalaureate exam. There is nothing wrong with making sure that cream rises to the top. Nor do the results necessarily exclude those who do not test well or do not score well from gaining entrance to universities. That's why I'm a big fan of interviews as part of the application process. Tests can reveal a great deal of information about the applicant; personal interviews invariably reveal considerably more.
2. Why only his?

Silly Tamar. His or her isn't so difficult to write, now is it?
3. To: No. 2

Mind if I ask where you went to high school and college? Do you have a graduate degree? If so, may I ask where you went to grad school? I have no doubt that you enjoyed the benefits of the best education that money can buy -- at least in elementary and secondary school. I'm just not at all sure that you really managed to learn anything.
4. PET's not the problem the Matriculation exams are!
Sarita Montiel ,   Israel   (08.21.12)
Kids spend the last 2 years of High School preparing to take Matriculation exams in all kinds of ridiculous subjects -- there is even a Bar Man's Matriculation exam in which the final is all about mixing drinks! Sa'ar is working on a cosmetic change...he needs to get to the root problem and the root problem is that Israeli high school students are seriously wasting 2 years studying for exams that have nothing to do with true academic life!
5. Let anyone start any University program

and then let's see them pass introductory weed-out classes (e.g. bio 101 and organic chemistry in premed, object- oriented programming for computer science, etc.) Many will fall by the wayside this way, but at least society will give them a chance to try.
