1. Now Israel has neither peace nor the Sinai!
Cynic ,   USA   (08.21.12)
2. confusing
nobleeagle ,   Egypt   (08.22.12)
To Mr Cynic, how many times did the israeli minister of defence said that security in Sinai was not available? and that Egypt could not control security in Sinai ? now when Egypt is trying to defend and get that doomed security why is it taken as a violation to peace treaty? Can a disarmed area secure itself? why do those rebels gather in this area ? because there are no troops there, is that the right answer?
3. No Oslo, No David
AmericanMuse ,   USA   (08.22.12)
Camp David's gone the way of Oslo.
5. Israel could destroy the tanks
mick ,   USA   (08.22.12)
Israel doesn't need the US to solve this. The Israeli Air Force can destroy the tanks.
6. Harmageddon
stefano445 ,   Kansas City (USA)   (08.22.12)
Egypt probably killed those border officers to furnish a pretext for bringing in the tanks. The fact that Obama lets this pass unpunished, as he allowed Ahmadinejad's Basij barbarians to let Persian blood flow in the streets of Teheran or as he allows Assad to let Syrian blood flow in the streets of Aleppo, is a clear indication of where his sympathies and priorities lie: with the cynical, theocratic Islamist totalitarians. More ominous still is that he allows this treaty violation to take place BEFORE the upcoming election, when he would be expected to count on the goodwill of the Jews whom he has abandoned for the last 4 years. The fact that he has no such concerns forebodes an ominous four-more-years, since his likelihood of winning the election is, unfortunately, very high. This can only mean that Israel's back will be pushed to the wall, which will mean a mushroom cloud over Natanz.
7. Arabs violate the treaty, the world stays silent. Nasser
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (08.22.12)
learnt the hard way. Let's hope the Brotherhood does not need a history lesson, there is no Soviet Union to mobilise to help them, maybe they are hoping Obama will continue along with the Arabist sentiments he expressed in Cairo after he got elected. He found no need to go Israel as soon as the Jews finished voting for him, interesting
8. barak and his peres policy
marcel   (08.22.12)
barak and oslo, barak and arafat, barak on give almost everything back, barak on consenting to eygptian troops and equipment in sinai so as not to provoke 85million egyptians. now the dumbkopf wakes up and realizes that morsi is playing a game and he has brought in more armor and has no intention of removing it. So then netanyahu runs to the US and begs them to intervene on its behalf. look- enough is enough. Bibi is in over his head. He should change places with lieberman who could handle the situation. Barak should be booted out of deffense in place of yaalon. Then israel will tell egypt directly to remove the armor. There is an almost genetic weakness, and begging in some jewish behaviour and is not easily stopped. Bibi has it, olmert and livni have it, peres has it and barak has it. Until jews overcome this problem, they will continue to suffer.
9. #2 confused
Pedro ,   Brazil   (08.22.12)
How did Mubarak take care of the security in Sinai for 30 years with no tanks or heavy weapons, respecting the peace agreement?
10. lol
ahmed ,   NYC   (08.22.12)
lol. Right. The amazing isreali air force can do everything. haughty must be a class in israeli schools
11. Not Confusing At All
RickD ,   USA   (08.22.12)
@Egyptian Eagle, An agreement is an agreement. The agreement signed by the Egyptian govt says "No Tanks." That's what it says. That's what it means. "No Tanks." The terrorists don't have tanks. Is it really impossible for the Egyptian military to be out-fought by a bunch of terrorists with AKs? Do what you need to do to remove the terrorists. But "No Tanks." If instead, what you want is a humiliating war with Israel, then by all means, bring in the tanks. Be smart. "No Tanks."
12. Big mistake
Josh ,   Canada   (08.22.12)
If you think this is an issue where force can be used ur mistaken. last thing israel needs right now is another front to worry about.
13. The US is of course a co-signatory on the 1979 peace treaty
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (08.22.12)
between Israel and Egypt. And, now that the treaty is being violated grossly by Egypt, will the Obama administration respect the treaty on which the US signed and demand the removal of the tanks and missiles from the Sinai? Can the Obama administration be trusted to do the right thing when it comes to dealing with Islamists...?????
14. #2 You're confused because
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (08.22.12)
Morsi didn't do the right thing - like check with Israel if it was OK, in spite of our treaty to mobilize these heavy arms. C'est tout. Morsi's unchallenged removal of the top Egyptian brass has clearly boosted his arrogance Furthermore, I've heard he's off to a 'taqqiya' seminar next month. Storm clouds are brewing
15. Treaties with Arab governments are not
zooog ,   US   (08.22.12)
worth the paper that they are written on.
16. Nothing "complicated" at all
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (08.22.12)
Egypt has unilaterally abrogated the Treaty. The Sinai therefore reverts to Israel. The State of Israel does not need the "support" (yuk!) or "intervention" (yuk!) or bad-fath brokering of the United States. The Treaty has been broken by Egypt, and Israel has every right under all precepts of international law to demand the return of the Sinai. Obama either goes along with it, or proves himself to be the sleazy Arabist that we have long realized he is. Now the rest of the world knows, too. As if anyone ever had any doubts!
17. to # 5...That won't be too smart....
yossi ,   canada   (08.22.12)
The new regime in Egypte is looking for excuses to cancel the agreement with Israel...
18. to#2 egyptean
Marcelo ,   Berlin / TLV   (08.22.12)
the problem is that your country and people hate jews as well as Israel even after the peace treaty..after so long time bashing Israel no single element in the egypten gov. speaks to israelis. Moving troops and tanks to the Sinai without telling is typical behavior of someone who would like to stick a knife in the back....
19. Wait and see
Bill ,   Skokie Il usa   (08.22.12)
Stop with all the paronoia! Egypt is not a threat to Isreal. They just had 16 of their police officers killed, their territory is being used by terrorist. It is their duty and obligation to remedy the situation. If their military deems these steps and necessary lets not second guess them. We want this to be thourough, absolute and quick. not to mention the impact it is having on Hamas. Let the Egytian army invade Gaza for once.
20. Israel's 1956 illegal seizure of the Suez Canal started it
Steven Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (08.22.12)
21. If Israel's security is at stake, take back the Sinai.
BUTSeriously ,   Sydney   (08.22.12)
It will resolve all issue with the terror groups in Gaza and the WB.
22. Israel is still in violation of the Peace Treaty
lydia ,   Brisbane   (08.22.12)
The Peace Treaty with Egypt which calls for the FULL withdrawal from the occupied territories, including WB and Gaza. The status of the West Bank and Gaza to be based on UNSC Resolution 242,
23. Is Jimmy Carter still smiling or is he writing another book?
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (08.22.12)
Nice friendly people the BCCI bank.
24. The Egyptians should get out.
andy prigge ,   ORANGEVILLE   (08.22.12)
The hammerheads in the USA will try to use this as a bargaining chip to place a yoke around Israels neck in regards to Iran.
25. Morsi
Adam H ,   NY, USA   (08.22.12)
Morsi is doing exactly what the brotherhood stated previously. They are creating facts on the ground. They are making "changes" to certain provisions of the treaty. You can be assured, they are not clearing terrorist nests. They will never attack their fellow Islamists. It's a show; an attempt to extort many more millions from the Obama administration. Don't fear, when the time comes, the IDF will take out the "vaunted" Egyptian Abrams tanks and F16s if necessary. They will never learn.
26. Not for nothing: but that looks like a toy, not a tank
EZ ,   US, Israel   (08.22.12)
I've never seen such a tiny tank before. Is this some kind of rapid transport from 1945? LOL!. Uh, yeah: we already obliterated the Egyptians with hundreds of advanced Russian tanks in the past. It wouldn't be as hard to take them out nowadays. But if we have to, we should cite their violation of the treaty and take the Sinai back, totally and without apology, PERIOD. If Egypt wants to play with fire: fire is what they will surely get and lots of it. Morsi has no idea what he is in for: even if he & his brotherhood control all of the terrorists in the Sinai: they will be annihilated.
27. #2 nobleeagle
DavidR ,   USA   (08.22.12)
Morsi is fooling no one. Tanks and fixed wing aircraft are not necessary to combat a few terrorists with rifles. Why is Morsi going to Iran? You know the answer. He is going to get his marching orders from the ayatollah. The terrorist attack that killed the Egyptian troops was a false flag event to try and militarize the Sinai with backdoor approval of Israel. Sorry! No go. Also, I know you do not believe the non-sense you wrote.
28. How many Israeli children
Avramele   (08.22.12)
Were allowed to be born and are alive today because of the 30 year peace and yes how many terrorist attacks were thwarted because of security cooperation with the PA in the territories. Between a perfect peace and war there is a cheshbon, a calculation that must be made.
29. Nasser #2?
Israeli 2   (08.22.12)
This time do not return the Sinai
30. #2
Moshe of Rockville ,   Rockville,MD USA   (08.22.12)
Your questions raise issues that do not appear to have been considered before - at least in the general press. The problem with the Egyptian security moves has more to do with their apparent lack of coordination with the Israeli government. This lack of common action seems to be driving Israeli concern and American anxiety. After all Israel gave up the Sinai for peace with Egypt, and even a cold peace is light years better than a hot war.
