1. This is not the time
Sammy ,   Newcastle   (08.22.12)
For Abbas to commit to any final deal It doesnt make sense when there is so much up in the air We dont know for sure..though it looks more and more that Gaza and West Bank cannot edver be unified..the ideological gulf is now unbridgeble A One State Solution with Israel is a sure recipe for civil war An independent Palestine in the West Bank may be possible but not under the auspices or occupation by Israel A conjoining with Jordan would be a nightmare to the Jordanians So for now..we need to concentrate on building up all the elements for a viable nation state- agriculture, economy, industry arts..and then decide the final status
2. PA legitimacy? "Palestinians are an invented people"
David ,   Jerusalem   (08.22.12)
said Newt Gingrich so accurately.
3. An accurate and sobering view shared universally
Big bad Jew ,   United States   (08.22.12)
he' s more than right. Economics alone don't assure peace or a peaceful, secure future. Mutual peace and cooperation with your neighbors does. The pals only 'specialty' is terror not much collateral there. ( unless you invest in weaponry or, funeral directors.)
4. West Bank mistery.
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (08.22.12)
Arabs live in arable flatlands in WB, jews on the peaks of rocky hills. How possible then jews have flourishing economy, including agriculture, arabs are living in miserable poverty ? If they should posses the hilltops what should do they with them, if even fertile flatlands are badly cultivated.
5. #4 Where are the aquifers?
Muyyad ,   Palestine   (08.22.12)
Obviously, you failed Geography 101. Your settlers and occupation government controls the natural resources of the West Bank, through effective control of 90% of the water resources there. You chose to ignore this bit of crucial information, or you are an ignorant fool. Either way, you are laughable!
6. PA/Hamas don't want peace or elections so they evade both
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (08.22.12)
knowing they can push anything through the UN, including perpetual handouts and elections to commities like UNESCO,contrary to the UNESCO charter. Not just UNWRA but MSF also gives them disproportionate care
7. #5 You have free water, all you want!
Yosi ,   Gilo, Jerusalem   (08.22.12)
You even got a water purification plant and waste it. Steal the money the easy money the UN & EU give you, never pay your bills and then you cry?
8. to# 5 muyyad
Marcelo ,   Berlin / TLV   (08.22.12)
Jordan, think about it, Jordan has plenty of water and a half of its population is "palistine" even the "queen" is "palistine"...BTW, after 64 years of combating "occupation" and creating the atmosphere for war and terror but without building anything, it is obvious that you will never be able to a self determination as you have never been interested in it; you just want a place without jews, so you inverted yourself after the '67...so, go ahead, and keep on the gooooooood work you did hahahahah
9. The PA's aim is to bring about a Pal state next to Israel
Miracle Dog ,   Israel   (08.22.12)
Yeah right! Bwahahaha!
10. Legitimacy? I'm Completely AMAZED
(08.22.12)

They Also Occupy at Least A Third Of The Land Mass That Is Rightfully Israel's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There Terrorist Leader's Have PERMANENT BLOOD STAINS ON THEIR FILTHY little hands, They abu mazen aka mockmood abbas and hamas Terrorists Are living in a dream World always have and always will. 11. #4 Istvan
DavidR ,   USA   (08.22.12)
They could go home and leave their misery! What you call the WB is in reality Judeah and Shomron. It is the Land given to Avraham and his children for ever. Any effort toward dividing the Land and giving it away to Arabs will bring judgment on the person or country doing so. So, while Robert Serry may sound diplomatic with desirable ideas, he supports the two state solution which is no solution to anyone except the enemies of israel and the G-d of Israel.
12. There always was a political path to independence
William ,   Israel   (08.22.12)
and "Palestinians" continue to reject it in lieu of the violent "resistance" path, to their own peril. Why does the UN continue to ignore this?
13. #5 - why then does the PA have 367 permits for wells
William ,   Israel   (08.22.12)
but have only put in 152 over the past 14 years? Why has the PA routinely rejected cooperation on water source projects, while Jordan and Israel work amicable on the same issues? And finally, why does the PA attack other infrastructure projects like a sewage treatment plant but allow pollution of the ground water by untreated village sewage being thrown into Jordan Valley waterways? The aquifers also spread into Israeli territory, and it is not only their legal interest in controlling the water sources - especially since, according to the ICJ, there is not recognized State of Palestine - it is their moral interest because any future war in the region will be over the limited water resources, and the "Palestinians" have proven they will screw everything up - like they did to the Gaza Aquifer.
14. to # 2: all nations are invented
Harmen Breedeveld ,   Leiden, Netherlands   (08.22.12)
Dear David, All nations have been invented at a certain point in time. Americans did not exist until 1776, and you would not deny their existence, would you? They were invented. The Dutch did not exist until the late 16th century, and you would not deny the existence now of the Dutch people? Jews did not exist until a couple of thousand years ago, and you would not deny their existence, would you? Canadians, Australians, Japanese, Germans ... All did not exist at a nation, as a people, at one time. They were all invented. And there is nothing wrong with that. So if the Palestinian nation, people, identity is being invented right now, then that is a normal process. It definitely is not an argument to deny them a State.
15. Who cares if the Holocaust Denier Loses Legitimacy?
Ronny ,   TLV   (08.22.12)
The Butcher of the 1972 Munich Olympics Athletes does not have any legitimacy and never will. The only legitimacy he can have is to be taken out by a bullet through his Ugly terrorist Head.
16. PA's survival
David K ,   USA   (08.22.12)
If the status quo is unsustainable, how did the "Palestinians" manage during 400 years of the Ottoman empire? Answer: there were no such people in existence at the time: having their own state was not an option or even an issue.
17. One easy, small step towards PA legitimacy
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (08.22.12)
If political legitimacy is what's wanted,it would help if Abbas would announce and actually hold immediate PA and presidential elections. It's hardly surprising that the PA isn't taken seriously any more when it now has no electoral mandate and Abbas has wormed himself into being the unelected, probably life,President of a one party fiefdom. THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
18. #5
Sam M ,   UK   (08.22.12)
Have you ever wondered why in the space of a few short years Israel has become a world science and technology super power? Why Israeli industry, it's towns and cities, farms and settlements are so much more advanced than anything in the neighbourhood, the west bank included. Has it ever occurred to you that corruption, intolerance, religious extremism, brutal dictatorships, ignorance and support for terrorism prevalent throughout the arab world might just be a teeny weeny factor in your lack of progress? And you think more water is going to make a difference?!!! Duh!!!
19. READ my lips: There will be NO Arab state
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (08.22.12)
in Judea and Samaria...not now and NEVER. And now be a good boy and say it at least three times a day...in the morning...in the afternoon and before you go to bed !
20. #2 PA legitimacy? They are a Travesty
ltrail ,   United States   (08.25.12)
Even the nationalities from whence they came, do not allow them to return (Jordan, Egypt, Syria).
21. #6 PA/Hamas Don't Want Peace
ltrail ,   United States   (08.25.12)
As long as they can keep their jobs as leaders of the PA and Hamas, they have assured that they receive their monthly paycheck (and much more by dipping into any funds). So Peace will not come any time soon. But, hey, keep the paychecks coming! The leadership need more furnishings and things to play with.
