31. Channel 2 must clear it's mistake..
joeffrey olayan ,   tel aviv   (08.24.12)
It's sad there are newscaster who are not accurate and hurt some group of people. It was aired in channel 2 that it's a caregiver from Philippines who did the maltreament. It's supposed to be a NIPALI..they should not destroy the reputation of filipino caregivers.

This man likely has advanced dementia and was unable to communicate what had occurred. Notice how the article says that family members noticed behavioral changes. It's horrible that such a vulnerable person would be abused like this with no apparent provocation. (It is ridiculous, too, that some respondents would blame the victim in this case; this reflects ignorance and projection of one's own fantasies.) If you don't know much about dementia, the short video about Alzheimer's at this site is quite informative: http://aboutalz.org/ Alzheimer's is the most common type of dementia and affects more people than you could imagine. For others to judge all foreign workers who caregivers by this video would be terribly wrong. I have known a number of these caregivers who have provided dedicated care for years and have even suffered physical abuse themselves when those in their care became agitated and aggressive. Please don't judge the families of those who receive care from foreign workers. Being a full-time caregiver can be enormously difficult and is not possible for family members who need to do paid work, who may have ill health themselves, or who may suffer too much from the emotional toll of dealing with the decline of a loved one 24-7.

Ah, ah, ah - that was funny.... since when do Israelis want to do the job these foreigners do ??? Train Haredi men and women, you are dreaming or what ?

You are SO RIGHT !! 100% agree
38. Disgusting!
me ,   here   (08.24.12)
She deserves the same treatment, It is my firm belief that the majority of foreign live-in nurses do a good job. The Jewish state should be grateful that they perform work that is needed and not done by anybody else. Abuse is not "foreign - Jew" matter. There are abusers of all nationalities, as well as the opposite. It's equally disgusting to see a large number of non-jews being insulted in the ways some talkbackers here are doing, and for no other reason that they are non-jews. That, in any other country, would be called racism. One would expect better from Jews, who themselves have suffered from racistic slurs and progroms worldwide!!! Shame on you!
39. to #23 you made my day, thanks!

40. caught on tape
Ernesto Andres ,   philippines   (08.24.12)
reporters here in israel should be very careful in revealing the nationality of any person accuse of maltreating their employer, before airing them on national tv. yesterday, august 23, 2012 in the news, they said that the accused is a filipinim, now it turns out to be a nepalese. how said!
41. DISASTROUS JOURNALISM ERROR
PRINCE ,   PHILIPPINES   (08.24.12)
I am calling the attention of the news reporter from Channel 2 on this news! The CAREGIVER IS NOT FROM THE PHILIPPINES!! She is from NEPAL! YOU MUST GIVE PUBLIC APOLOGY AND CORRECT THIS REPORT ON NATIONAL TELEVISION! WE CAREGIVERS FROM THE PHILIPPINES, TAKE PRIDE OF OUR WORK! THIS GRAVE AND DISASTROUS REPORTER WOULD JUST DISDAIN AND STAIN OUR REPUTATION. The reporter could have asked the daughter of the family to verify the news information on the spot. In this point, his CREDIBILITY AS A BROADCAST JOURNALIST IS ALSO TAINTED BECAUSE OF HIS IRRESPONSIBILITY!!! DO A PUBLIC APOLOGY AND CORRECT THIS IMMEDIATELY LIVE ON THE NEWS!
42. Deport all foreign workers!
Reuven   (08.24.12)
This the world's only Jewish State.
43. disgusting racist comments about gentiles
roger ,   zurich switzerland   (08.24.12)
Some of the comments on here are truly repellent. Israel has a huge problem with this deep-rooted racism. The other ugly aspect to this is why most carers in Israel are foreign. It seems that Israeli Jews regard this kind of work as below them. Not just racists, but hypocrites too.
44. Caretaker Abuses Holocaust Survivor
Carol G ,   Winnipeg, Canada   (08.24.12)
I wouldn't trust anyone to look after my elderly parents (they are both gone now) except myself. Caregivers who are hired to look after old people have a lot of power and control. Is the family so naive that they would entrust the care of their elderly relative to someone who is not even Jewish? Obviously they didn't want to bother with his care themselves. Elder abuse occurs in every ethnic group and community but the family should have hired a Jewish caregiver. At least that would have prevented the possibility of racially motivated abuse.
45. #43, you're a super hypocrite
Korem ,   NYC   (08.24.12)
You are making a judgment call on all Israeli Jews from the talkbacks on a news site, and then have the gall to call them hypocrites. Shame on you.
46. Rivka,
Israelit ,   Israel   (08.24.12)
The family obviously care for the man, and installed cameras after noticing changes in his behavior. In our imperfect world, sometimes people can't live up to your idea of perfection and ::gasp:: hence a caretaker is hired to care for an elderly relative. Now why would they do that? Because it's a PERSONAL decision, You don't know anything about theme, so STOP judging others.
47. #43 Behavior of worker was disgusting
Cynthia ,   USA   (08.24.12)
She should remain in custody and serve jail time. But you siezed opportunity to bash Israel as a brainless troll might do. Foreign caregivers are not unique to Israel. It's also true in the US. As for Switzerland, 1/4 of the workforce is foreign. Is that because 1/4 of the jobs in Switzerland are below native Swiss?
48. 46 Israelit, Israel: I judged no one but simply stated what
Rivkah   (08.24.12)
is obvious to me. The family is too lazy or uncaring to take care of their own. My mother had five children and only one was caring enough to take care of her. What does that say about the other four? They dumped the care of the mother on me even though the SONS are the husbands of the blood to the mother, the first born son first in line for that so his wife should have been the caregiver for the mother. Not providing for your own when that is necessary is denying the faith. That will keep a person out of God's Kingdom, but you are more concerned that I must be judging people. You care nothing about eternal souls and sins that cause HaShem to despise people for failing in their duty to Him. If I were judging the situation, that would mean rendering a punishment and I do not have the authority of a court or of Hashem to render a punishment. Stating facts is not judging.
49. This is a wake up call for all those who put children or
Rivkah   (08.24.12)
their elderly relatives into care centers or who employ caregivers to be attentive to signs of abuse. Remember that even Sarah the Patriarch Abraham's wife and her son Isaac were abused by an Egyptian maid, Hagar and Hagar's son Ishmael to the point of Abraham having to throw Hagar and Ishmael out. What was the abuse Isaac suffered from Ishmael? According to Dennis Avi Lipkin's book "Return to Mecca", Ishmael was sporting with Isaac which means Ishmael raped Isaac in the anus. Many in care facilities and many with caregivers including children and the elderly who need care are raped by caregivers, not just slapped and punched.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with racism you moron! Where this woman is from is irrelevant, it comes down to a betrayal of trust and wilful cruelty towards a vulnerable human being. Fortunately this type of incident isn't common in Israel. On the other hand look no further than the arab world for widespread and well documented examples of real cruelty and racism as seen in the shocking treatment of asian carers including rape, beatings and even murder. The rights of foreign workers in Israel on the other hand are protected by strict legislation as are the rights of the elderly. Meanwhile go and wash your dirty mouth out with soap and water
51. not good
Ethan Schwartz ,   Eilat   (08.24.12)
Although there is no excuse for what was done, it is very important to make sure that caretakers have adequate time for themselves. Too often they are with their wards 24/7 with no relief.
52. #48 You judged, all right
Linichka ,   Gdynia, Poland   (08.24.12)
"The family is too lazy or uncaring to take care of their own. " How do you know? It is entirely possible that the patient requested paid assistance, wishing to spare his children. I can fully appreciate this. A number of us don't want our children or our spouses to tend to us in declining years. We'd prefer loving visits - and preserving some dignity. In any event, none of us knows the circumstances of the man's family, and you are way out of line to dismiss his kin as lazy and uncaring.
53. # 50 Sam Thank you I agree with you fully.

Big bad Jew ,   United States   (08.24.12)
Quite right and if the elderly person's family is the care giver, they become even more exhausted as they have no 'breaks'. This adversely affects the entire family, the grandchildren siblings etc.
56. #23 Kelly from Phillipines.....I do ask
Arlene ,   Israel   (08.24.12)
that question often. We have so many unemployed, why do we have to bring from abroad. Answer seems that like many countries people are not up to doing the job of caring for the elderly, not living in anyway. But sadly most carers from abroad are refered to as Filopinit, sorry for the ignorance. Saying that this is not the first case of mistreatment by a foreign worker, but for the most part, you all werever you are from do a good job and this allows you to send money home to your families. Often your salary if higher than some Israelis and there are perks. The Israelis should really look into this, they could earn well.
57. Take care of your own parents and start to learn
Al   (08.24.12)
to clean your own toilets. Here in Montreal the Philipinos are buying houses at the drop of a hat while the uber dumb schnorrer frume yidden cant afford to pay the rent, becuase of their laziness. What the hell is wrong with you over there? Are you that lazy that you need foreign workers to do the most basic things in your house? Are you that busy?
58. horrifying but no connection to country
Ilana ,   Israel   (08.24.12)
I am sure most people know that such awful caretakers can come from any culture, country and religion. Many caretakers are wonderful and do a good job while the children are busy at work. This particular one needs to be punished by law. She is a sicko.
59. agree
Crizzz ,   Philippines   (08.24.12)
I haven't watched this news yesterday , i just saw this video in facebook , yeah it''s true those people who posted this video said the care taker is from Philippines according to the news caster ,we are watching news to seek the truth unfortunately some of these are lies, at least now it is clear that she (care taker) is from Nepal.
60. # 59 Does the land of her origins make such a big difference
Big bad Jew ,   United States   (08.24.12)
? would it matter a whit if you weren't from the Philippines? No matter, evil is evil from wherever it hails.
