1. Nice to know you can kill 77 people, most of them children,
Henry from New York ,   USA   (08.24.12)
and be afforded such a light sentence by law. Even if they can extend his sentence indefinitely, having such a light maximum penalty in place, in the first place, is a slap in the face to the families of the victims. There should be no chance for parole when someone does what Breivik did. Even though changing the law won't do anything about Breivik there should be harsher penalties in place than this laughable sentence.
2. Still way less then Jonathan Pollard !
2Mad ,   גולה בצרפת   (08.24.12)
3. Breivik's sentence: Poetic Justice!
David ,   Karmiel, Israel   (08.24.12)
Breivik killed 77 people and used Norway's "Liberalism" to make a fool of Justice. The people he killed are the same that see the atrocities committed by Muslims all over the world as "justifiable". Norwegians should ask themselves how can one man kill all those young people on the island without one of them trying to stop him? It is obvious that leftist Norway and Europeans just have no self-respect and lack the basic instinct of self- preservation and survival. Many have asked how the Nazis managed to occupy Europe with so little opposition. The Breivik atrocity has given them the answer.
4. 100 days per murder, 0 for 270 wounded, says it all
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (08.24.12)
5. The jews are the scapegoats again
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (08.24.12)
In hungarian neo nazi websites Breivik is called simply as a zionist terrorist. He was secretly paid by Mosad, the victims were leftists who opposed Israel's policy. One more false accusation against the jews among a lot others. It would have been better to send this guy into psychiatry.
6. 21 years 4 KILLING nearly 80 PEOPLE, so 3 MOUNTHS 4 each 1.
hot snow ,   tlv   (08.24.12)
Norway is a "fantastic" MURDERER factory. why not offering his VACATIONS abroad ?
7. Norwegian justice?
Ruth Rasnic ,   Herzliya, Israel   (08.24.12)
Incredible. The families of the 77 victims and the entire population of Norway must protest against this ludicrous mistrial.
8. #1 and #3
iselin ,   Oslo, Norway   (08.24.12)
To #1: Norwegians are deplore the light sentence for such an atrocity, but that is all the law here affords. Many of us also would prefer that he serve his time with others, so that "prison justice" could be meted out, a la Jeffrey Dahmer. To #3: Have you read about what happened on the island? If so, you would realize that these 14-year-olds could do next to nothing to protect themselves. Those that could hid. There was no time to organize any retaliatory act. After all, he had the gun and ammo and well-made plans. Aren't you expecting too much from teenagers? RE. the Nazis - they sent 300,000 men to occupy Norway, which had a population of 3 million. Even the tough Norwegian resistance couldn't fight that many foes.

horst ,   ge   (08.24.12)
Breivik in his own blog clearly cited Zionist Islamophobia as his major influence. So what are you complaining about. Have you not noted the posters saying those kids would not have been kids if they had not opposed Israels brutal occupation?

Norseman   (08.24.12)
'how can one man kill all those young people on the island without one of them trying to stop him?' I recall reading that nobody tried to stop the recent attempted lynching in Jerusalem,in fact some bystanders egged on the attackers... what does that say about those people? Maybe it is that mentality that gives rise to such things as nazism...
11. justice ...
ira   (08.24.12)
the sentence is an irritating reminder that the law's purpose isn't revenge. @david: yea, you've really explained history there buddy!
12. 21 years
Alex ,   Arava   (08.24.12)
21 years.... thats it????? The Kray twins got more than that!!!! Thats a joke!!
13. To nr 9 Horst Wessel Germany
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (08.24.12)
Every european who opposes the muslim immigration is a zionist ? What concrete connections existed between Breivik and Israel ? Nothing.
14. ahaaa
Hertzel ,   Tiberias   (08.24.12)
and Israel has let it's leaders be led by this timid nation, with the Oslo agreement, and now we know how we end up with 20000 terrorists in Israel's heart land.....
15. 77 murders
caleb ,   israel   (08.24.12)
he will get out in time to do it again get 21 yrs and again he could commit the same atrocities over and over depending on his life span. abolishing capital punishment, esp in cases like this, is not humanitarian but subhuman.
16. Ohhh...NO Nobel Peace prize like Arafat ???
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gamin Germ   (08.24.12)
17. 21 years?
sarah   (08.24.12)
For murdering 77 people? What kind of insanity is that? He should have gotten the death penalty.
18. This man
Raptor   (08.24.12)
should be taken to the public square and hung by his toes alive on a crossbar and left there to rot and die until the birds eat every scrap of flesh from his miserable body and only dry bones are left, these then should be incinerated and his birth and all national records of his existence should be deleted. That is punishment also for his family who brought such a monster upon civilization.
19. #8 - Indeed
Henry from New York ,   USA   (08.24.12)
Any change would be ex-post facto, but it would still be good if the law could be changed in case this sort of thing happens in the future. Also, I didn't realise that preventive detention means he doesn't mix with general prison population... I agree that's also a shame as I'm certain mass murders of children are treated properly then.
20. #7 - That's the maximum penalty.
Henry from New York ,   USA   (08.24.12)
21. #11 - It should still be a deterrent.
Henry from New York ,   USA   (08.24.12)
22. #17 - There is no death penalty.
Henry from New York ,   USA   (08.24.12)
23. Too bad he missed Sarah B...
Avi ,   Israel   (08.24.12)
24. Have any of the victims in this Hitleryungen camp...
Tahl   (08.25.12)
showed similar mercy and empathy to Israeli victims of Palestinian terror? Something tells me I wouldn't be so off-base, guessing that that they were probably cheering the Hamas and Islamic Jihad suicide bombers as "freedom fighters", and trying to explain and justify their actions. Just getting in line with their Israel-bashing Norwegian media. Such is the face of European ultra-leftist hypocrisy, the kings of double-standards: Breivik's actions are "bad terrorism", and Hamas bombing Israel is "good terrorism". Of course, I do not approve in any way of Breivik's horrific deeds. And for this reason, I expect the same zero-tolerance for terror, to come from Norwegians, when commenting on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Terror is terror is terror, and it is never justified. Enough with the double-standards! Enough with the blind hatred to Israel.
25. #24 - What on Earth are you talking about?
Henry from New York ,   USA   (08.25.12)
26. 21 years for killing 77 people ??!!
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (08.25.12)
He may be sane but justice system insane.
27. 21 years for 77 years ??!!
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (08.25.12)
Sorry - I may have been misunderstood. He should have gotten life sentence or death penalty.
28. 21 year sentence
LR ,   Afula, Israel   (06.05.13)
21 years in prison for murdering 77 people. That's 3.67 years punishment per human life. Something is wrotten in Norway.
