31. Appeal what?Their daughter's ignorance?
Big bad Jew ,   United States   (08.29.12)
If they do appeal the ruling they will lose again. I hope the pals are footing their attorney's bill. Otherwise, this will be one expensive failure.
32. It shouldn't have happened
Ezra ,   SanDiego USA   (08.29.12)
I agree it shouldn't have happened, and I understand the pain her parents must be feeling. But, this article is about awarding damages. On that subject, hasn't the parents already received notoriety from her daughter's unfortunate death?
33. Verdict never in doubt . . because it was obvious
Bill ,   New York, USA   (08.29.12)
14 Observer. I deny Rachel Corrie's martyrdom too! It is fun and easy to do so! She will be remembered in the future only because her case brought the "war zone" principle of qualified immunity from Anglo-American jurisprudence to Israeli case law. Her memory will have the same dim obscurity of Ms. Palsgraf of tort law long ago. But at least Ms. Palsgraf did not contribute to her own injury or those of other innocent people.
34. Israel should sue the girls parents.
Dr Shakrani ,   Baltimore   (08.29.12)
Any activist comes with bad intentions. They are anti-semites. No good.
35. #10...#11
(08.29.12)
listen, the usa court in which the corries brought a suit against israel HAS TURNED DOWN THEIR LAW SUIT. GET THIS? A USA COURT HAS TURNED DOWN THE LAW SUIT THESE PARENTS BROUGHT IN A USA COURT AGAINST ISRAEL AS INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE. so, if a usa court can turn down their law suit and this court's judge was neither a jew, nor an israeli, is the usa judge also a jew and therefore threw their law suit out of court? israeli civil law and court system is the most democratic in the world. plenty of laws are in favor of arabs who sue israelis for whatever reason. it is for all and it is fair, democratic and of the highest standards. look it up.

it was concluded by a military court in egypt that this missile that hit gaza beach was a katyusha sent by hamas towards israel that ended up on the gaza beach and killed members of that family. do not dare blame israel, you liar. israel had nothing to do with the tragedy this family suffered at the hands of hamas on that beach. there are so many "work accidents" in gaza done by terrorists who make bombs there and who often send missiles towards israel that end up on palestinian homes and kill their children. look it up! and shut up with your lies.

then settled in gaza when abas and the idf cleaned the west bank up and they also joined hamas there. so, yes, they came from gaza during their terror operations recently.

we do not deny her martyrdom. we expose her stupidity of being used by your people to kill herself.

Natan   (08.29.12)
I am proud of what you call "jewish justice. "Jewish Justice" ruled in favor of Arabs, against the Israeli government, against the IDF in many instances. Your suggestion that Jewish Justice is for Jews only is absurd and has no merit or truth!! Rachel Corrie has put herself in the line of fire and got killed. And oh, by the way. Out of the 9 justices of the U.S supreme court 3 are Jewish
40. what is wrong with rt. that photo of corrie taken hours
brabon ,   los angeles usa   (08.29.12)
before her death. she was killed close to 5 pm...notice teh shadows in that pic? its around high noon...no shadows yt now works for hamas?
41. This should serve as a warning
Belinda ,   Texas, USA   (08.29.12)
There are MANY things this girl could've protested right here in the US! For the life of me, I can't understand why people from other countries feel like they need to poke their noses & opinions in other people's business!! I think everyone needs to stop acting like Israel is "bullying" the "poor" Palestinians! Israel has done everything short of giving the entire country to these vagabonds! The rest of the world needs to SHUT UP & mind their own business! We have enough trouble & problems to deal with right here! The the Israeli people & the Palestinians figure it out all by their self, G-d only knows How much we've screwed things up because the governments of other countries think they have to stick their nose in there & look important!! Get a life people!!
42. To Observer, Egypt #11 Gaza beach incident
Nurit ,   Israel   (08.29.12)
Funny how you should bring that up as it was proved to be another Pallywood incident, just like Mohammed el Dura. The investigation ascertained that the explosion was from the ground upwards, not from above-ground downwards, thereby PROVING it was from a landmine not an imaginary navy missile as claimed. Furthermore, shrapnel was examined and supported this conclusion. Hamas landmine their beaches and obviously the danger to civilians is of little consequence to them.
43. Just heard Netanyahu's toilet flush twice
Sarah B ,   Tel AvivL/ondon   (08.29.12)
It appears that the \\american government are closing ranks behind the Corrie family. Either means that the US government has evidence they are witholding until now, or they are going to use the Rachel Corrie case to beat Netanyahu with when he visits Washington. Either was unless Israel does it themselves they are not going to get their bang bang in Tehran. Netanyahu's silence on the matter suggests phonecalls have been made and the courts result is one that was not expected. Either way it will be a hard sell to sacrifice young American lives on behalf of Israel. Netanyahu really doesn't have any concept of you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours I as Prime Minister would have given the Corrie's their day in court in return for bigger dividends down the line.it is ll about the bigger picture. Which time and again Netanyahu doesn't have the ability to see This was a test and we as Israelis have failed to pass it.
44. Corrie
David ,   Germany   (08.29.12)
Radical Palestinian activist jumps out in front of a moving bulldozer, gets hit and dies Parents should put the blame on her and themselves!
45. Chinese proverb
Michael ,   Kochav Yair, Israel   (08.29.12)
Chinese proverb: When bulldozer coming, get out of way.
46. Mr. & Mrs. Corrie
Devorah   (08.29.12)
How many times did Rachel watch video footage of the Tiananmen Square incident? Was that her inspiration?
47. @46 All the terror weapons smugglers to target civillians?
PETER SM ,   MELBOURNE AUSTRALIA   (08.29.12)
With genocide written into their charter?
48. Too the parents, your daughter came
Dyslexic.... ,   Israel...   (08.29.12)
came looking for trouble and she found it.I think its better for you and for Israel if you went home,we do not like your kind of people.Take a holiday in Gaza there you will get the true reality what Israel has too live with.
49. NY Times Comments
Schneur Genack ,   NY USA   (08.29.12)
I read the article about this story in the Time with it''s usual anti-israel twist. But most disturbing were the hundreds of comments which were 90% full of venom and hate for israel. The most common reference (dozens) was comparing the tank defying demonstrator in Tiannmin Square;s compassionate treatment by the Chinese military with the Ruthless IDF intentionally running over this woman. These Israel haters may not have known that the Tiananmen Square uprising was suppressed by the Chines Military with the death of at least 1000 protesters and the conviction and imprisonment of the tank guy. The NYT comments were closed so i am coming here. The NY Times, owned and managed by Jews is a committed and passionate enemy of Israel. It';s reporters and editorial writers are impatiantly hoping for the destructionb of Israel. PMW is a valuable source but what is more urgent is a NYT Media Watch.
50. #10 Eye witnesses
Cynthia ,   USA   (08.29.12)
They did not dispute it was an accident or the fact that Rachel Corrie kneeled in front of a moving bulldozer. What facts do you have to dispute the verdict? Your biased assumptions are irrelevant.
51. to #13 so you admit palis r terrorists.
ghostq   (08.29.12)
that is a good start.
52. does state dept understand disappointmt of bin laden's fmly?
rick ,   walnut creek   (08.29.12)
the state dept is a citadel of stupidity and senselessness. corrie was a young, hateful fool who neglected the problems of her city, state and country. she didn't know anything but she had all the answers...about how other people, half way around the world, should lead their lives and defend themselves against their mortal enemies. but, then again, this young, hateful fool didn't care about that. she made herself the champion of and the willing accomplice to the crimes of hamas. and, her parents lack the decency and honesty to put an end to the farce.
53. The real stake of the court appeal.
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (08.29.12)
Is Israel a colony of the USA or an independent state ?
54. (22) Leonard in Canada
tiki ,   belgium   (08.29.12)
No Leonard, you are! This was a stupid girl who decided, of her own free will, to come to the ME, defend Israeli killers, burn US flags, lie in front of arm smuggling tunnels for terrorists who used these arms to kill more Israeli's. The 'Other Rachels', innocent women, mothers of small children, wifes, someones child/grandchild and with many friends to. They were blown up by murderous Arab Palestinians because of who they were. Israeli women who didn't get a chance to make any choice! They were walking in the street or sitting in a restaurant with their children, friends and/or family when they were blown up by the same people Rachel Corrie defended & supported. Rachel Corrie KNEW that Israeli's were '''the enemy''' and would NEVER harm her on purpose! Thats why she chose this part of the world to become a 'heroe. She became a victim of her own free choise & stupidity.
55. Photo Falsehood
Geoff ,   Sydney   (08.29.12)
The photo you show could readily be party of the anti-Israel propaganda machine. You say "shortly before th e incident" This is false. The photo was supposedly taken the day before. As it currently appears, it looks like she would be then. This photo should either be removed or clearly labelled.
56. #49
Henry from New York ,   Currently under the Tuscan Sun   (08.29.12)
Actually the editor is not Jewish even though his name seems a bit Jewish. My countrymen always want to root for the little guy even when the little guy is a moron who chooses to stand in front of a bulldozer where she couldn't be seen. She probably thought that she was like the fellow at Tianamen Sqaure, but she clearly was not using her brain and so she got whacked by the dozer's blade.
57. Giving the parents a pass, but no more
Ron ,   LA US   (08.29.12)
They remind me of the Arabs themselves. They never take responsibility for their own actions or their constant failures. It is always somebody elses fault. Did the Corries ever counsel their daughter about hamas terrorism? That it is not right to burn the American flag in Gaza, entering a war zone has its risk, the ISM has its own agenda, Surburban Olympia Washington is not Gaza. Maybe her parents should have told their daughter that it would be best to graduate rather than drop out of college. Perhaps a few teachers at Evergreen State might have told her that bus bombing isn't a noble cause and that there is no excuse for it. Perhas her parents should reflect a little and take some responsibility. My guess much like the Arabs, they won't.
58. The verdict was right and just
Tim ,   Brighton   (08.29.12)
Rachels death was tragic...a young life destroyed, her loving parents distraught and we respect her parents for wanting to get to the truth This was a case where Rachel had deliberately placed herself in danger in front of a building about to be bulldozed...in order to try to stop the Bulldozer which was already on the move to demolish it. And dont forget the Bulldozer Driver was in enemy territory, was a target and in real danger and had to complete the mission as fast as possible. Did he really have time to NOTICE and REGISTER one person standing in front of the building with bullets flying and a huge amount of dust generated? Was it reasonable to have expceted the driver to EXPECT Rachel or anyone else to make this dangerous gesture? Indeed reports indicate that she was ENCOURAGED by her fellow activists who did NOTHING to stop her or suggest that she get out of the way. Moreover there are some reports that even suggest that some of her fellow activistscalled for her to stand firm So if I were to stand in front of a ten ton bulldozer to try to stop it from demolishing a building IN A CONFLICT ZONE and got run over in the melee...who bears the responsibility? And for the Corries to say that this was a bad day for Israel..cannot be further from the truth. Her case was brought before and independent court and thoroughly dissected which ruled that this was an accident..and that Israel could not be held responsible I am not in the blame game..but I must ask the Corries to consider WHY it was that Hamas who were supposedly in control allowed Rachel to enter into a combat zone and endager her life IN THE FIRST PLACE? And lets not forget this Bulldozing was a LEGITIMATE response to try to stop the HUNDREDS of missiles and rockets smuggled via Rafah into Gaza Rachel im sure wanted ultimately is what we all want...goodwill and understanding, nationhood for the Palestinians and peace in the Middle East. Lets hope the Corries can find it in themselves to urge parties on BOTH sides to talk and bring about a lasting legacy for Rachel
