1. Obama just may win regardless of the economy
spyguy ,   seattle usa   (08.29.12)
The Republican party just passed a platform that deeply offends everyone except rich, white, middle-aged males. Romney has offended so many others, he will have to get 65% of the white vote to win, which none of his predecessors were able to do. Obama is going to hammer Romney with the Republican platform and Romney will have no way to run away form it.
2. To everyone who will undoubtedly whine about "interference"
Vlad   (08.29.12)
Go on, scream and shout about how dare Israel try to interfere in US elections. Just remember this, though, Bill Clinton sent James Carville over to Israel to interfere in an Israeli election and replace Benjamin Netanyahu with Ehud Barak.
3. Israel's interest is preventing Iran from getting nuclear...
Ehud   (08.29.12)
....not preventing the reelection of Obama. The author talks about US unemployment rate and the fact that an it is nonetheless an even race and shares her worries that Obama will be reelected. She doesn't understand that this is irrelevant. Neither Obama will attack, nor Romney. The latter is careful verging on hesitant and will nor be inclined to start his 1st term (in the unlikely case of his election) with a war. Israel will have to decide based on what's going on in the Middle East, not the beltway
4. Striking Iran b4 election would punctuate Obama's
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (08.29.12)
failings in foreign policy -- in addition to his failings in the economy. The only question is: Are Americans really stupid enough to reelect such an inept and proven failure with a colossally bad track record, for which he still can only evade accountability for his own decisions and keep trying to blame Pres. Bush? And the answer is: a lot of sure 'em are; having grown to feel "entitled" by liberal propaganda, free-loading parasites (like our Ultra-Orthodox Khareidim) with no concept of ever having to pay the bill -- so America's fate remains to be seen. Israel should learn the lesson of allowing liberal "entitled" free-loaders to reach the tipping point in elections. My family are Florida voters, and, בע"ה, we'll be voting against Obama.
5. Born and raised in Israel ...
Bruno   (08.29.12)
but no longer living here - well what a shame! In that case, please don't tell us when to attack Iran. Iranian retaliation will be on Israel and not on Kansas, and you're not here, so don't decide for us, please. On the other hand, anything (even your spurious arguments against Obama) which cause Israel to postpone the absurd notion of attacking Iran, is a good thing.
6. Defeating Obama
Kerry Zias ,   Raanana, Israel   (08.29.12)
The author makes a good point about the negative impact on Israel if Obama is re-elected. However, allowing Iran to develop nuclear weapons is much more of a threat. It is fairly certain that Obama will not assist or back-up Israel in an attack on Iran if he has secured another term in office. But he will be politically forced to do so before election day. Therefore, unless Israel is certain it can do the job totally without any US assistance, strategic logic dictates an attack on Iran before the US election.
7. Unbelievable Ignorance
Joshua ,   USA   (08.29.12)
I am absolutely amazed at the extreme ignorance demonstrated by this author. Obama came into the presidency with a country in total shambles. Sky high unemployment, more than 5,000 dead, 20,000 maimed soldiers in 2 useless wars that cost over 2 trillion dollars and counting, and, a bigotted Republican party whos only goal is to make him a "One term President", and, to hell with the country. To think that to fix such a situation in 4 years - takes a real idiot. As far as Israel - Obama was honest in his expressed dissatisfaction with the settlements issue but never the less supported Israel across the board when and where it mattered. If Romney gets elected, the middle class in the USA will disappear within his first term and once the 1% top richest people will turn the US into Iran style extremist Christian Autocracy - than idiots like this author will have plenty time to sit dazed and reflect on their stupidity.
8. Obama 4/11 to win, Romney 7/4
Larry ,   Eastbourne, UK   (08.29.12)
I've just asked my bookmaker for the latest odds which are as above. They suggest that an Obama win, while not a certainty, is strongly fancied. So I'm not sure about the race being "dead even".
9. O has a Pal takeover of Israel scenario for future
Alan ,   SA   (08.29.12)
Return of "refugees " to inside Green Line. Pal State entitled to "defend itself" (from who?) If not for Congress and Senate ,and some US citizens... Israel woukld have been toast.
10. Obama
Richard ,   New York, NY   (08.29.12)
The U.S. economy is very important to Americans. George Bush, the last republican president, took a viable U.S. economy and ground it into dust. He also started an extremely costly war with Iraq under false pretenses. The republicans have done everything they could to defeat an economic recovery under Obama. They do not approach issues in an intelligent way. They are all bluster.
11. @ 2 Vlad
Philos ,   Herzeliya   (08.29.12)
I suggest you read up on great power and client-state relationships. Then you'll understand why it's "ok" for the guy with the big gun and all the money to interfere in your election, and a pretty terrible idea to that in his when all you have is a potato.
12. Saving Israel comes before defeating Obama.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.29.12)
Obama is a horrid, hateful and utterly unaccomplished man, who had no business being U.S. President in the first place. Nevertheless, saving Israel, by destroying Iranian nukes, comes before defeating Obama. It is an existential matter.
13. Firster
Robert ,   Tampa, FL   (08.29.12)
After reading this by an Israel Firster, have decided to vote for Obama and to go out and campaign for him. No more wars on Israel's behalf. You go it alone on this one and I hope your planes are shot down, pilots captured, your bombs can't penetrate Iran's defenses, your economy crashes and missiles rain down on Tel-Aviv and Dimona. Maybe then Israel will lose some of its arrogance and superiority, get rid of Bibi, Barak and Liberman, stop settlement building and make a fair and just peace with the Palestinians. In Hashems name we pray.
14. yenta
postroad ,   usa   (08.29.12)
hey. you left Israel for "better place."? then stayh in Kansas and let Israel solve its own problems instead of telling us why you are determined to vote for a guy who refuses to show that he paid taxes, and ford a VP{ who would destroy medicare and privatize Social Security..Mitt is a guy with no core! He is one thing today, and another the next day. He strikes me (Mitt) as without any values except to stay on top
15. Obama is going to win so...
homer jones ,   nyc usa   (08.29.12)
Time for plan b
16. True Friend Of Israel
Latrina Goldfarb ,   Lackawana USA   (08.29.12)
Israel's best friends are always political candidates, and former politicians. They always know what is best for Israel when they are not in power. I am sure that Romney will add his name to the list of candidates (winners, and losers) who have promised to move the US embassy to Jerusalem.
17. To # 7
Don ,   Indy USA   (08.29.12)
You sir, are the unbelieveable idiot. You are totally brain dead and beyond help. Have met a few Liberals just like you. Godless, helpless liberals that just totally ignore facts.
18. Robert, what's with this anger?
Ehud   (08.29.12)
You never intended to vote differently. Who r u kidding? Most Israelis don't really care who Americans will vote for. It is none of our business and I am sure the superb US-Israeli bond will continue irrespective of who will be the next President. As for our wars, we tend to fight them alone. In 48, 56, and 67 we didn't even have American weapons since the US decided to supply them only once we proved we can stand on our own (in 67). I would recommend to you joining some anger management program. There are good ones in Tel Aviv, but you may risk those rockets you wished for raining down on us and we can't have that..,
19. Iran hasn't even been discussed...
Gunnar ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (08.29.12)
...in the US election campaigns. Neither in Obama's, nor in Romney's. The truth is that most Americans don't really care about whether the Iranians get nukes or not.
20. Disagree
Nachman   (08.29.12)
This is the best time and might be the only time Israel will be able to attack Iran. Time is not in Israels favor. All the grandstanding by Obama towards Iran is just to get votes. If he is reelected he will again show his true colors regarding Israel. Iran will be of the radar. If israel attacka now Obama will be forced to support Israel or risk the election. In any event I don't think Bibi has what it takes to take this risk alot of talk but no action.
21. Not When Gas Prices Soar
Lance ,   Nashville, US   (08.29.12)
Gas prices will skyrocket when Israel attacks Iran. Americans won't be so quick to galvanize behind Obama when it costs a hundred dollars to fill up their vehicles. Obama can tap strategic reserves, but it will barely touch the spike. High gas prices played a significant part in defeating Jimmy Carter in the late 70's.
22. 14 - she is that and in hebrew we would add defuka.
israel israeli   (08.29.12)
23. Big endorsment for Obama!
Nigel ,   London   (08.29.12)
It may be early in the campaign season, but the Communist Party USA already has seen fit to endorse Barack Obama for the 2012 election. While noting he is disappointed with “some aspects” of the Obama administration’s domestic and foreign policy, Sam Webb, chairman of the Communist Party USA
24. Don't Fool Yourself
Barry ,   Boston   (08.29.12)
There is absolutely no indication that Romney would let Israel attack Iran any more than Obama would. Talk is cheap when candidates are looking for financial support from Jewish voters. Romney isn't going to support Israeli action if he has the prospect of oil at $200/barrel looming.
25. #7. Obama is ruining America.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.29.12)
#7. Your ideological blindness is amazing. America was in FAR better shape during the Bush administration that after four years of Obama. By any objective criteria; whether you look at unemployment, foreclosures, deficits etc. Moreover, America is more divided than in many decades; if ever. Obama is ruining America.
26. "How to Ride a Donkey"
Steven Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (08.29.12)
"Steps 1 Slowly walk up to the donkey. Don't walk too fast or make loud noises as this may scare the donkey. You don't want to scare him. 2 Try coaxing the donkey with a carrot or another treat. 3 When the donkey is calm, either fit him with a saddle, or mount the donkey without the saddle. If you choose the second option, make sure you have experience and you know what you are doing. You don't want to injure the donkey. 4 Put one foot into the stirrup on the saddle. 5 Then swing your other leg onto the saddle. 6 This may take a bit of practice, but keep trying. In the end you will be able to mount a donkey with no problems at all!"
27. After Obama's win. Hope the US cuts parasitic israel loose
American Vet   (08.29.12)
28. Romney lost when he picked Ryan, Social Security is red line
Lautenberg ,   New Jersey   (08.29.12)
Is it really worth giving up Social Securtiy for all old peo over this. ROmeny would have sailed to victory if he picked a different running mate, but not even republicans want to starve old people. Sorry, but SS pays 16k a year or less which is right at the poverty level for the old people who used to just starve. Wake up. Romney lost when he picked Ryan
29. Wow, geesh, @#$%^^&, and whatever
Linda ,   Amarillo, Texas   (08.29.12)
What in the hell do our elections have to do with you people bombing Iran,, that's your damn problem,, wow, geesh,@!@##$$, whatever and a few ??????
30. Partisan issue?
Adam ,   Herndon VA, USA   (08.29.12)
I consider the threat to Israel from Iran to be very real and very serious. However, is the only viable strategy to turn Israel into a partisan issue in American politics? If people who concerned about Israel pin all their hopes on the Republicans, we run the risk of policy exile when the Democrats are in power.
